Lee,
Talking about a black man running for president and how the electoral college process works are two very different topics. One consist of feelings, the other consist of a very clear cut process which though not clearly understood by most people, is very cut and dried if you understand the process.
Bill
yes he can.
If enough people think obama is home and dry they wont bother to vote.
Its happened before.
I just saw a news story where they played a recorded McCain robocall.
The message basically says to vote for McCain because Obama works with terrorists. How can this be legal? I wouldn't think people would be so stupid as to really believe this but after seeing footage of the woman at a rally who thought Obama was an Arab, and a soon to be father afraid of Obama becoming president because he's going to put terrorists in control, people can believe anything.
So yes McCain could possibly win, but I'm thinking conservatives are getting upset as to how far the McCain campaign is taking this "be afraid of him" angle. They say Colon Powell is going to endorse Obama this Sunday on Meet The Press, he's probably had it with the "be afraid of the negro" crap :bananacock:
The electoral college is made of of presidential electors, each representing one electoral vote for each state. Although I don't think they are legally bound to vote for the electoral votes that represent their state, the electors always do.
There has never been a case where a large number of electors voted against the way their state's election apportioned electoral votes. I believe there may be a few cases where one or two electors (out of 538) voted differently than their state's election results, and there was discussion of something like that happening with all the fraudulent stuff in Florida in 2000, but nothing came of it, and as Bill said, nothing ever will.
With the economy in the toilet, Obama ahead by 5% at Real Clear Politics national poll average (it tightened a bit), and the Colin Powell endorsement of Barack Obama (with criticism of the McCain campaign), I just don't see how McCain can turn this around.
