We went last year. Other than airfare, hotel and registration (the prices of which are easy to find), the rest of the event was almost free. There's plenty of free food and refreshments available at the resort from dawn until dusk and there's really no reason to have to skip out for dinner because all the sponsored parties in the evening have food (and the gay parties, at least, offered free drinks). At midnight, the restaurant opens for a free hot breakfast buffet from 12-3am. So there's really no need to go out and buy food or drinks the entire time you're there, unless you want to. Staying at the resort is the best option, but the other hotels are just a short walk away.
I attended 6 seminars (all of which were good) and spent the rest of the time networking. In my opinion, one Phoenix Forum was worth all of the AVN Vegas shows I've been to the last 10 years. Anyway, that's my experience and my $0.02 worth.
