Okay, as open as I am I usually try to keep some distance between my work life and my private life. Wow! This is awesome stuff folks! I know that this is a niche with many many layers ... and it's why I'm wanting to know and learn all I can about what makes all of this tick for the participants.
On the women into the male spirit Don, or whoever knows... isn't the spelling boi and not boy ... or used either way? I have some Lesbian friends into S/m and they use the boi spelling.

One thing I am not clear on though, or maybe this breaks the niche into sub categories of some kind .... is the infliction/receiving of pain the main "turn on" for both parties ...and I'm not clear on if this is actually a sexually stimulating niche? ... or more akin to a fetish that doesn't necessarily have a sexual outcome. For lack of another handy comparison ... the balloon niche isn't a sexual niche per se.

The infliction/receiving of pain is but one facet, and you're right that it's actually the S&M part.In a sado-masochistic scene, both parties are in it for the pain, the Top giving it (usually) and the bottom receiving it.
It is a big turn-on for many, and I've seen some scenes that resemble Klingon mating rituals (beat the hell out of each other first, animalistic sex after). However, there are times when sex is not the objective.
You know that cool rush you get when you've been either scared to death or just absolutely ecstatic about something? Many bottoms crave this, and that's part of what they're achieving here. The brain releases certain wonderful chemicals and it turns into a natural high, which is commonly referred to as "sub space." For some, it's almost orgasmic, for others, it's a comlpete and total shut-down of lucidity, which allows the physical body to take the pain and transfer it into pleasure. (I hope this is clear; trying to describe this is not the easiest thing to do because there are so many different levels and ways of the experience, and each bottom experiences it a bit differently.)
That would explain the "not showing discomfort" bit you were asking about. They aren't uncomfortable; quite the contrary, they're loving every second of it!

I've been told by a few people that the term is extremely offensive to some African Americans, although I must admit that I don't have all the info on that, so I don't feel that I have a right to talk about it. I don't think that's too detailed. It's great for search engines, but I also find in the kink world that people are pretty particular.

So if you had a category called "corporal punishment" while it might be okay, I might pass on it if I though it included all of the stuff I'm not into and none of the stuff I am.
So, I think your idea of getting fairly specific is a good one.

it comes down to - we can't give the surfer what they want
if what they want is to see someone EXPRESSING discomfort...
also MANY sponsors won't allow their programs to be advertised
on a site is also promoting some of the "activities" considered
more extreme in BDSM play...
some Billing processors disallow certain aspects as well...
including the actual words even on the site or in the meta...

you type - it's in lower case...

eons ago I was told it was Gor... I wasn't interested
in that aspect of roleplay - so I never studied it to verify
