Bars are better if you only go once in a while, and then only if you’re felling really “up”. If you go when you’re in sour mood things tend to go poorly.
But, let’s face it. Even on a good night you already know exactly what to expect: Early in the evening you decide where to go and what to wear. You may have a few drinks and listen to your favorite music. You get ready, check yourself a hundred times and then hit the club. The music it tight, and there are many babes. You see a few friends, have too many drinks, dance to your favorite songs, make eye contact with a few new guys, talk to some you’ve already scoped before, and avoid the ones that didn’t work out. If you’re lucky you go home with somebody and have sex, and sometimes it’s even good. Then you wake up much poorer and with a hang over.
But, that’s it. Isn’t it? It never really gets any better than that. That’s why it’s only good once in a while.
I try to balance it with going to concerts, going to movies, going to the gym, and going to dinner with people I don’t really like just for the challenge. I also hit other “pick-up” joints (you all do too, even if you don’t admit it).
But, most importantly, don’t ever get too upset about not meeting anyone. It’s like fishing. Just go again next Saturday.
Oh, and here is my best advice in a bar. If you see someone you like, make eye contact and SMILE!
Don’t be afraid.
And don’t forget the fucking smile!
