I made the decision to leave the US after DOMA was signed, it took a few years to make it happen, but I got out in Aug 2001 and hae felt beter ever since.
Only been back once and that was cause I needed to see some family. I am due back before the end of the year to renew my passport but have been holding off to see how the election goes. If Bush gets elected, or should I say re-appointed, I am just gonna find a way to get the embassy to renew it from here.
I thought his dad was truly evil, but he is by a factor of 100. The damage he has caused since stealing the election 4 years ago will take decades to repair. I live in Hong Kong and most of my non-chinese friends here are Brits or Aussies. They tease me about about being American; I tell them it is where I am from, not what I am....
May I ask what country Thumbnailer?

Welcome to the club sukime69! Being an American overseas we get a LOT of flack for being American. People demand we answer for the fucked up things our government does. It sucks. When going to school for my masters degree here there were so many foreigners.. when I said I was from America the same questions over and over, "Why you elect Bush?" "Why Americans let him do to Iraq what he does?" "Why they accept his foreign policy?" "Why Americans think they are in charge of the world?" "You know America will fall some day." etc etc.Quote:

Some people lie and say they are from Canada.. I'm to proud for that. I'm glad to be American, but ashamed of the things happening that I never knew about, and most Americans don't.

Bush has been in office 4 years.. I don't feel any safer and I feel moe vulnerable as an American then in my entire life! And Stronger? I'm in Australia.. when I first came here 3 years ago the USD was twice that of the AUD.. now $1 USD buys only $1.33 AUD... the American dollar sure isn't stronger.
Please respond to this and tell me how we're "better,safer and stronger" I'd like to know your logic. And no negative vibes.. I'm truly just curious :-D

I've always wondered what REpublicans do at parties. Besides, I can get you drunk and reduce it from 62% to about 13%.
Personally I've never seen so many of our Canadian and European friends want to be so "involved" in the election.
i.e....Everyone I am in contact with from the UK, New Zealand, Ireland, France, to Australia, and etc...really do NOT want to see Bush win.
Now, you take them, and with the US citizens that DON'T want Bush in office anymore, I have to ask myself...how can so many be so wrong?

It's been proven that many times over, people from many other countries actually know more about USA politics then many US citizens.
It's my belief that many US citizens are un-informed, under educated in politics, vote for who their "friends" and parents vote for, they're sheep, and over all, have no idea what the long term affects will be...Hell, most of them can't even remember the Vice Presidents name after the election!
An old rule of thumb....if 20 people tell that you have a tail, maybe you should turn around and take a look!
BTW, I'm ex military...I was in the army 4 years, also an ex cop of 2 years...gone to the adult industry...lol...not that it has anything to do with anything...I just wanted ppl to know that, yes...I served and I didn't join until I was 28 years old...I know some shit that others can't even imagine. But, I will say one thing...I honestly feel for our service men over there....I hope they all will be able to come home very soon!
that's probably a little over simplified, but yes, I will say (as an American citizen living in Canada) that as Americans we can be a little more clued out on the subject of politics. We can be appathetic. We can over simplify things.
To say that America was attacked by people who "hated freedom" is a classic example of this. It shows such a compelte and fundimental lack of understanding about the Middle East that it's almost laughable... in fact, it's a running punch line to jokes elsewhere in the world... but many Americans hold that belief quite deeply.
Many Americans don't understand the way the world works, and it's not really their fault. In schools, very few of them are given a proper education about the world. Many Americans are surprised to find out how Canadians study American history in school, because it's so important to learning and understanding our own history. Many Americans are surprised to find out that we understand American politics better than they do.. again, we study all forms of Government.
Education really is the key, and simply saying that school should teach only Reading, Writing and Math is a proven detriment to a society.
But I sure hope that the early exit polls showing John Kerry kicking Dubya's ass are acurate.
I really do.
well, with 4 more years of bush, you aren't going to see better education. if you educate drones, they may not do what you want them to do.
i always thought i was pathetic as far as understanding other countries and politics go, but compared to my neighbors, i'm wayyyyyyyyy ahead.
something i realized tonight... most u.s. citizens are not aware that every year, we have over 100 terrorist acts. the news, when it does report these acts, puts them on a back page. a lot go unreported. only a few high-profile terrorist acts make the front page - and i think that u.s. people are more shocked by the ones they know about because they believe they are so rare. they feel violated by the high profile terrorist acts because they feel that we here are the victims of them so rarely.
