I'll give you two examples of people you would have outed, whom after purposely being closeted to get ahead, made a difference for our community once they got to where they needed to go.Quote:

My ex of 5 years is an executive at the biggest paper on the west coast. He started in the closet at work, while at home raising a baby with me. After he broke the "Gay" ceiling he came out a week later, brought me and our son to work and introduced us. He then made sure that equal opportunities for minorities and Gays were enforced. He hired liasons for the Gay community to communicate with the paper and then made sure the paper increased it's coverage of Gay stories, bringing to light many issues that had been swepted under the rug previously because nobody in the "straight press" wanted to report on them.
Another example is a good friend, and ex, that is a reporter and part time anchorman for Fox News, yes Fox. He knew that at first he had to be closeted, especiailly when covering the Gulf War, etc. After he made it to a key position he came out, started doing special interest stories and has to date won 18 emmys for his work and many awards for his stories regarding Gay and minority issues. He's also started many organizations, one of which investigates international Gay rights issues and brings them to the forefront of the U.S. media and foreign policy. Like the story of Indias "Gay community", the "Vedic" as they call them. To be Gay in India you are castrated and must dress as a woman and are relegated to the "third sex", the "Vedic" and are downcast to the lowest level in indian society, the Sudra, who can, by law, only do the most menial work ( i.e. burning the dead, working sanitation, etc.). Killing a Vedic has a punishment equal to that of killing a cat in India.
Jasun I'm not dreaming in technicolor. I'm speaking from experience. Unfortunately their are Gay people out there like Mike Rogers at blogactive, and John Byrne, that make a name for themselves by outing people. Like you, they just don't get it.
