I just visited http://gayisnotaniche.com/ owned and published by the uber talented Xstr8guy and was very impressed by the article by Dzinerbear. You guys on are on to something here. Go with it!

All too often str8 producers and promoters of gay porn and gay themed TV shows miss the mark with their efforts. They often end up inadvertently offending the very customers they wish to target because their strategy is flawed and based on misinformation.

In my opinion there is a gay culture that is far more rich and diverse than many are aware of or even acknowledge. I firmly agree gay adult entertainment is a market and not another niche.

As for a mainstream marketing success example, I suggest looking at America West Airlines who targets the gay/lesbian market (not niche) with slightly discounted airfares at http://www.americawest.com/glbt
Of course, the media hyped it up and stirred up some of the religious right protesters. But AWA is sticking to their marketing strategy targeting markets that tend to travel frequently and supposedly have above average disposable income.

I am compelled to correct my previous post where I should have stated GLBT instead of gay market in the Amercia West example. Our gay market is a part of the greater GLBT community.

The more inclusive GLBT title does raise a question though. What characteristics are similar and what are different across gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered markets?
