When I decided to move to California, my Mom (in one of those hallmark movie moments) handed me a card to put in my wallet. It read:

"If it is to be. It is up to me."

To some it can sound corny, but it's gotten me through a lot. I've been having what seems to be similar "ideas" going through my head, too. Over the past four weeks I've taken that card out more times than ever and just say it outloud.

I don't know if it helps, bass... just know, you are loved and very well respected.

Honestly though, I can certainly relate to depression and the way it can just bring you emotionally, mentally and physically to a non functional state. Try to keep all those projects to a minimum, organize what needs doing, and set down in writing a list of (reasonable) goals for each day. I find it helps to be able to cross em off and "see" that I am making some progress. Be careful about starting a LOT of things and finishing none ... it'll only add to the depression.

And pay particular attention to your physical needs, i.e.:don't go 8-12 hours and not eat, do stop and take a walk, or go soak in a hot bath, watch a fav show with the COMPUTER OFF and drink lots of water (no, coffee and teas don't count as WATER). Allow yourself to SLEEP when you actually first feel sleepy rather than push past it to the point you're so tired you can't fall asleep.

one of my Mother's traditions is to put one of those little inspirational cards in our christmas stocking every year

they aren't corny if you follow their advice!!

I have a pile of about 20 of them in my top drawer - 1 per year since I could read ;-)

This is my favorite one, it hangs beside my desk and i know it mostly by heart for having read it so many times ... you've probably seen it in every gift shop, but its still a powerful message.

I do one of three things.

Listen to very depressing music and cry it all out.

Watch the final epidoe of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 5 (where Buffy Jumps to her Death to save the world) and cry it all out.

I watch Fight Club and cry it all out.

Ahhh Basschic, I'm sorry your not feeling like yourself. My husband and son look at each other when I'm like that and whisper to eachother, "Mommy has a fragile psychi".

It's hard sometimes but for me I fill the tub with my favorite oils and bubbles (usually lavender), light a million candles, drag in the portable stereo, plug in my favorite meditation music, hop in the tub and clear out my mind. I swear it has never failed me.

I think half the release is in prepping though. You get so focused on what all needs to be in the bathroom, lighting all the candles remembering to get your favorite cd out of the car, getting the stereo, etc etc that by the time you finally get into the tub your all ready to just unwind.

I sleep it over...

the problem is my problems are real... it's not just a turn of my psyche. my life has been very hard, and i try to deal with it philosophically, but lately it seems like it never stops...

take new years. for new years eve, a truly terrible smell started emitting from under our apartment building, and suddenly our apartment had worms coming into it. so much for partying and having fun. today our ceiling started leaking when the upstairs people shower. it might all be sort of funny but for all the work and work problems.

would an exterminator be able to find out if possibly something had crawled in underneath the building and died (to cause the worms)... what a yukkie thing for you to have to go through... sorry about that ...

p.s. if the smell is still bad - go get kitty litter - and put it about in disposable baking tins - the clay will absorb the smell - it works fast...

we are in an apartment with a VERY tiny amount of crawlspace, and it's full of water and mud at the moment. i wondered if something died - if not, there is serious mildew under the building which couldn't be good for the foundation.

the worms were apparently our young punker grl manager's idea - she heard they would help the soil. we have 6 tiny flowerbeds, and she put in enough worms literally for several acres of land :-/ it would be funny if it weren't for everything else going on here. there are worms all over the sides of the buildings, and inside all the apartments.

thanks for the thought, bell - our manager only functions on a problem if you can tell her what to do. the kitty litter is a great idea if they can get the water out.

Sometimes I cry my heart out and get over it. You know, just pretend you're a drama queen and stuff. Or watch good series nonstop. Those help. Try them.

what about a shop vac or some sort of pump to get that water out... maybe call the fire department or one of those places that help with flooded basements for suggestions...

the kitty litter IN - your apartment would help if the smell from underneath is creeping up...

also if the mud is causing bacteria and airborn mold sppores - the owner MUST do something about it so the place won't get condemed by the health department...

I don't want you breathing that shit...

that alone could cause depression etc...

perhaps the owners insurance policy will cover clean up - it's better for them to do something now than to have to deal with the damage from prolonged water damage and mold etc...


I don't know for sure - but I think if you sprayed water mixed with cayene pepper and salt on the foundation and your baseboards it might help prevent some of the worms from coming up and in... note if you have a pet - don't use the cayene pepper...


maybe a soil company could make some suggestions...

Ok I can help with the worm situation. Go to your local garden centre and pick up a bottle of what is commonly referred to as "lawn grub killer" the active ingredient is either chlorpyrifos or carbaryl or tea tree oil, make up in a watering can or bucket, water over affected areas and then water in well. I know the extra water might not be really helpful but it sure will knock the worms for six. (Take the advice of a trained horticulturalist)
