Go for it! Might I suggest you think about hiring a trainer. Back in mid-October I started working with a trainer. I find that I get a much better workout with a trainer, in fact, one hour with him is like 2+ on my own. In the five months, I've taken off 20+ pounds and packed on a bunch of muscle. The whole shape of my body is changing.
My partner, who has a similar body to yours, started seeing my trainer 6 weeks ago. The changes in his body are absolutely amazing.
You might want to work with a trainer for three months to get a good grounding and learn what to do, and then, continue on your own.
