Jigg, what kbps are Apple using?
128 AAC codec - which from what I've read is on par with a 128kbps MP3. Their music allegedly comes from masters, meaning it's not a CD rip so quality is probably good.
I have a friend in Bulgaria who's works for studios composing music and he told me that if the songs come from a master @ 128kbps you couldn't tell they're 128kbps or much higher.
I disagree because I've burned 128kbps MP3 that came from a master and when I poped the CD in the stereo I had to turn the volume up, the sound was. Which didn't happen with a VBR (variable bit rate) MP3 or other songs in the range of 220-320kbps.
Higher bitrate just sounds much better, it's a lot more crisper and you can hear more details with good earphones
Oh, I'm getting so old. I used to care about audio quality. Many years ago, I'd buy Japanese imports because they were suppose to sound better. I'm pretty sure my ears can't tell the difference anymore after all of the years of aural abuse.
Is anyone here familliar with flac files? I got some from a friend but I can't play them on any of the software I have. :(
http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.html
installing the codec and dropping the file in say Winamp, should let you play it me thinks
Thanks jIgG. I have a friend who said he'd come by and help me out with this tomorrow. I'm not very tech minded.Quote:

Geez Don! Don't make Jigg do all of the googling for you, lol. That's what search engines are for. ;)
LOL! I was just thinking if someone already knew a program to use. I just picked up a nasty case of spyware on my home pc trying to get a good freeware mp3 renaming program so I figured I'd see if someone knew of something safe to use.
A google, I do google, you too, you do google too. :)
Don, I ususally only download free/shareware from a reputable source such as zdnet or tucows or place like that. I feel more confident that the programs have been scanned for spyware or viruses.
Yeah, and I really should have known better. I don't know what I was thinking. Luckily I got rid of it but it took a while. Had to do a few sweeps or adaware and spybot. geeze.Quote:
