Bareback Videos Addicted

well the stats are there, HIV is on the rise in the gay community as of late, evident everywhere you look. The mags all have the healthy pepole who're HIV+ and all that, asking people what their status is is considered a turn off.

They even had bareback parties during the White Party which is supposed to raise money for AIDS/HIV. That's like raising money for alcoholics while giving out free booze at the party for anyone who wants.

drug use is up too. See New York and gay clubs full of people on extacy and all kinds of shit.

I had this chick, friend of my boyfriend back from the local gay place, thing, organization here in Ft Lauderdale. She called a while back and asked if we would attend a fundraiser, $150 a pop at the cheapest level. I told her no way. Why should I give my money to support someone who thinks they can get high, party all weekend long, fuck everything and everyone bareback because to them HIV isn't a big deal and they can get help with meds, then come get their check?
She gave me the whole "gay community" speech thing and tried to get my boyfriend who's a big softie and can't say no.

And it's fine, everyone can do what they want and fuck themselves up anyway they wish. It's their lives and their bodies. Just shouldn't be expected from all of us to support their habits and automatically spread the wealth.

I'd rather give my money to someone who's got their life together than someone who thinks they should be doing the same old and expect the rest to gather up and pitch in.

It probably has to do with how much aids has affected gays. Especially in the 80s. AIDS is still referred to as the gay disease too by the way. It could also be the fact that in gay bareback models don't get tested for HIV, HIV+ people fuck HIV- people like it's not a big deal.

At least that's what my perception is from what I've been able to gather from people who're "in the lifestyle"

That's a part of the problem I find with the way you explain your position on this issue, jigg: it's your perception of the "lifestyle" and you make these mass generalizations that condemn whole groups of people. While I agree with you that drug use in our community is rampant and contributes to risky and unsafe behaviour, I don't think you can tar and feather all gay people, all partiers, or all barebackers with the same brush.

It is for these exact stated reasons that certain people disdain or have nothing to do with pornography. Porn seems to be a highly personal choice, and for that it is near impossible to explain it to others.

A gay friend of mine stopped helping me with database work on FriskyFans because he sincerely believes that all porn is addictive and destroys solid relationships. If you read documents by Focus on the Family or the Christian Coalition, they conclude that all gay sex and porn leads to the spread of STDs.

People all draw their lines in the sand.

For my two cents, I have always found these arguments to ring hollow. Did watching Halloween and Friday the 13th cause the young viewers to go out and ape violent acts? Think about the ramifications here: If it is argued that bareback porn will cause people to engage in such behavior, then the Religious Right has been correct all the time - porn really DOES cause infidelity, and tricking and all the other acts portrayed in them.

Everyone is drawing a line in the sand - just where they have a personal problem with the behavior. I'm not criticizing what others believe here, I just personally find it illogical.

Another gripe of mine - I cannot see how a company can pointedly refuse to hire models who perform in gay bareback videos, yet at the same time employ straight models who have performed in straight porn without condoms. (same with awards programs) That is discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in employment... everything we have ever wanted protection wise from the ENDA laws in California or New York is dishonored in these cases.

Well I've probably stepped on enough toes today. To reiterate, I respect everyone's personal opinion on porn. If a business chooses not to associate with bareback porn, this is similar to a store opting whether or not to retail guns, or sell lottery tickets or even beer and alcohol on their premises.

It all comes down to freedom of choice and the right to pursue one's own happiness. Society can be such a rich and assorted fabric.

Imo, the increase in new HIV infection has little or nothing to do with bareback videos.

It's more likely caused by the relaxed attitude of younger men. They have very little experience with the loss of so many of their friends like people in my generation. Also, the improvement in drug therapies for HIV infection have taken away the "death sentence" stigma of the past.

I didn't experience the loss either although I'm (almost) 41, because I was "straight" until I was 34. On the other hand, my partner of nearly 5 years has lost everyone to AIDS. We bareback but we are in a monogamous relationship and are both HIV-. My partner should be studied because he survived the worst part of the original epidemic completely untouched.

I'm not aware of any studies that break down the age range of those diagnosed with new HIV infection. But I would guess that most of them are younger men simply because most older men are in committed relationships, bored with promiscuity, already positive or gone.

And Jigg, the model releases that I have seen from bareback movie productions state that the model assumes that all participants are HIV+. There is very little chance that the models are becoming infected during the sex scenes because most of them are already positive. And the actors that are negative only perform with HIV- actors. Oh I'm sure there are exceptions, but for the most part, the actors know what they are doing.

Yes minority groups statisticly have higher instances of STD's and alcohol/drug abuse. It comes with being on the fringe and feeling you don't belong in the world I think. The CDC website has some excellent research on the topic of minorities and the reasons for these high rates.

Everyone I know has had unprotected sex for a variety of reasons ( GLBT & straight), but I've never heard someone say they didn't wear a condom because they saw it in a movie. Usually it's because they were drunk, they really trusted the guy, no condoms around, they were with a partner and thought they were safe, they were young and thought they were immune, the list goes on.

Desslock, Dzinerbear and others in this thread have made some excellent points, as have you BM.

I think the key here is to remember that entertainment is just that and many people would rather fantasize about having sex without a condom, instead of actually doing it.

That being said, I personally have not yet been in the position of filming bareback videos. I don't think I'd deal well with the guilt if someone, on one of my productions, contracted HIV. We all know people have sex after they are tested, condoms break, etc.

Another thing to remember, the straight community has serious problems with violence against women, abortion and unwanted pregnancies, yet we see straight porn after straight porn where women are degraded, and everyone's having unprotected sex. Why is that? :francais:

It's silly to think that watching any type of video , porn or not, will make people do that behavoir in real life. If that was the case this would be a very unpleasent world.

Okay fine ... two months ago on the Toronto news, I saw a man hold his ex-girlfriend hostage at gun point right out on a sidewalk of a major street. Ultimately the police shot him in the head. This was a real situation and did not make me want to point a gun at my ex-boyfriend in a public place, nor did it make me want to shoot anyone in the head. It's a shallow argument that watching anyone do anything will incite the masses to follow suit.

Dorothy, do you actually believe that 100% of the Gay, Hetero or Bi people use condoms all the time?? Regardless if they watched bareback sex, had dinner with a friend, went to opera before that?

I don't see the connection. Those that practice, or because of any other reason do not use condoms when they have sex, it's surely not because of the bareback movies, that most of them even don't know those kind of specialized movies exist.
