Hey, this thread is on the same topic as one that has just petered out. So I am reposting my last comment which few people will get to on the other thread:
I believe that bareback porn contributes to an overall attitude in our community that unprotected sex is without consequences - and that translates to more unsafe sex and more HIV / AIDS infections. There are many complex and overlapping reasons why a man will choose to have condomless sex in a given situation. (The biggest one is the mistaken belief that he and his partner have the same HIV status, which is usually impossible to know).
Nothing exists in isolation. Media affects attitudes and behaviors. The message of bareback porn is that fucking without a condom is hot, fun and preferable to sex with a condom; in an ideal, AIDS-free world there would be no harm to this message, but bareback porn celebrates the very act that is the major cause of HIV transmission in gay men. It may be satisfying to watch, it may not affect in any measurable way most of its fans, but I maintain that it makes the idea of unsafe sex more acceptable to some.
Perhaps condomless fucking needs to become "taboo" again if we are to ever win the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Note that "Raw Luck" is from a Eurocreme line, so the model Mark is speaking of already exists in Europe.Quote:

Chipmunk,
I've wrestled with this concept for two years. But it's a fact: bareback sells. So we are promoters have an incredible opportunity here.
Initially, I didn't want bareback galleries. Then I put them up. Then I added a page-long discussion about how important it is to take to your partners before you bareback. (I also put links on that page to AIDS service orgs.) Then I put a link to that page right in my nav bar, so every page on my site provides a link to that page. (That page ranks 48 in Google for "gay bareback sex" not great, but it's something.) Then two months ago I decided to get more aggressive and I put a big, honky warning button on every bareback gallery. It tells people that these galleries are a fantasy but AIDS is a reality, it tells them to talk to their partners about HIV and safer sex before they engage in bareback sex, and it links to that page I mentioned above.
So, if other webmasters who promoted bareback galleries would do the same sort of thing then (a) we help keep educating the population and (b) you've provided a solution that you might be able to live with in this ethical dilemma.
If you wanted to go a step further, you could take all of the money you earned from those galleries and donate it back to the AIDS service org of your choice that is helping to educate people.
So instead of looking at this as a black and white issue of either supporting or not supporting bareback sex, we could begin to look at this as a way of helping to keep educating surfers.
cheers
