Very interesting information and very informative! IMO I think it all depends on the area you live and get your talent. I'm located in South Florida and the average going rate for a solo is $150-$200 per scene and anything with Anal action boy/boy or group pays $250-$400 per scene...and it all depends how many scenes you offer at that rate as well.
Some guys have the wrong idea of what a "porn star" should make. Based on my knowledge guys that come from California and move to South Florida think they are going to make "The California Rate" which starts at no less then $500 per scene and that is just for a solo...but yet you can get a hot guy from Indiana and pay them $150 per scene...so it all depends on the talent and how you present it and where they are from.
Getting talent is a challenge for all of us in the industry. How many times have you advertised your seeking guys 18-25 and you get a call or email with a guy that states: "I really want to get into this business, I'm 37 years old but everyone tells me I look 18. Here's my pic, let me know what you think"95% of the time most guys that state this looks 37 or older.
What we need to do is start networking together as a community and once a studio finds a "hot" guy, get your photos and videos out of the model and pass them along to others.-just my thought....this will help the model earn more money plus as the model becomes more popular, the sales of videos and webcontent will be more of a marketing draw.

Of course, the other thing is that once models start getting shared across multiple companies, they become over-exposed and whilst this may not be a bad thing from a branding standpoint, it could become an issue for a paysites retention, why would a surfer stick around on *MY* site when he knows he can see the same hot guy on *YOUR* site?
Youll also have noticed how many of these 'reality' sites all pretty much use the same models regardless of which company owns the site, i beleive TopBucks is actually doing something about this though and they are only using their own model base now :)

What Lee mentioned is my main concern. I really wish that "we" could all share models that we each discover, god knows, it'll make ALL our lives A LOT EASIER!! But, then we could hardly claim that a specific model is somewhat "exclusive" to us.Quote:

and btw...i've paid anywhere from $200-800 for a solo photo/video jerk off (about a 3hr shoot).
I try to get away with paying $300 as much as possible but many times i end up paying $500 for the same solo photo/video shoot.
And it's true what everyone's been saying about your location. In Vancouver (where i'm based), $500 is quite a bit for solo work (even though there is one gay company here that pays $750 for the same shoot. UGGGHHHHH!!! It's hard competing with them :)) but in LA that's the bare minimum any straight model appearing on a gay website will make for a solo jerk off video. So, do some research and see what other local producers are paying models for the same type of work to get an idea what you need to be paying.
I’ve heard that models in Montreal and Toronto get paid much less than what I’m paying right now. Is that true? Basschick, were you really getting decent guys there to do a solo jerk off for $100-200?
I know JakeCruise made a trip out to Toronto/Montreal a while back. It must’ve been refreshing for him to pay the guys so much less than what he’s used to paying them out in LA where he’s based. Hmmmm….i think I’m going to have to go out there very soon!

I pay $250 a day for solo photos (usually 1-2 sets) and video (usually 1 video) and $350 a day for duo. This is just for guys who are starting out, though. Bigger names get more pay, naturally, but I usually get a little more content out of them, too.

Personally, i wouldn't have any problems sending my models to straight companies to do straight porn (some of them wanted to get into that from the start), but if i were to send them to a gay company (where they'd appear on another gay website), i'd want to get an equally hot model back from that company. I think that's the only thing that sounds fair to me.

Okay!!! I knew I would get a response from the *sharing talent* coment. We at allboysvideo pay anywhere from $200-$500 depending on the scene and that rate is usually the norm for South Florida for using gay or bisexaul and str8 talent.
Someone brought up a great point and I have learned something by reading this site...I'm normally in the video production business end of this and we sucessfully release videos and we just started our members site. As a marketing stand point I think its great to have the model make the rounds and work for various studios but I do see and understand why so many website owners like to have the talent *exclusive* cause in the world of member sites...why would a viewer go to a site to see "Fresh New Faces" but when the viewer gets thier that "Fresh New Face" has been seen all over the web and it can get tiring after a while.
This was a learning experience for me and thank you for pointing that out!!!
