It was a bulb... and probably in an area a little too shady, so I was getting some green but no flowers til like the 3rd year after I'd planted it. Each year now I get a lot more flowers so it's doing fine.

Actually Clematis takes a while to 'catch' here in the states - I don't know why. My parent, who can grown ANYTHING had to cultivate their clematis for two years before it took off. It was almost 4 years before it flowered.Quote:

The local garden experts all told them the same thing. Not to expect major growth or flowers for some time. Once it was ready, though, they were cutting it back constantly.
Now that we're all in FLA I know we can get plants that are ready to run. Once we get the new fencing up I'm planning on having some grow up them for added privacy.
Allan, you probably know this... I just read that the common house plant Pothos is a good ground cover ivy. I know that it climbs all over from pots but does it do that well in the ground or in beds? And if so, how much water does it need? Can sand soil hurt them?
Sorry I've turned this from My Passion to My Plantings... Sorry Bell LOL
Bel - here is one of my passions. Plants. When I need to get away from it all, or just need time to think things through one thing I always do is grab some pots, potting soil, seeds or clippings and head out side. I have more passions that I'll share in the morning ;) But this is definetely one of them.
My best,
Gary
Hey Gary,
Yes pothos will grow in the ground remember to take in to account the following:
1. That the bed needs to be contained to keep it from taking over, it can become quite a vigorous grower
2. If you have sandy soil add some rich manure/compost to increase organic matter when you plant and mulch with a hay mulch to encourage further organic matter to incorporate in to the soil
3. Water well until established but it should survive without water after this point.
Cheers,
Allan

Not really all that familiar with US plants, in order for me to identify it I need things like final height of the plant, type of leaf whether the leaf is divided, that sort of thing - or even just a pic :)
If you can get any of this info I might be able to help
if I see it in a seed catalog sometime - I'll snag a picture...
I've never seen the leaf close enough to describe it...
the flower ball gets to be about the size of a medium grapefruit...
and the final height - tallest I've ever seen is about 3 feet high
stalk...
do you also grow things ??

Good question Bell and sorry it took me so long to reply but i have been thinking about it an all honesty i can only think of 4 things i am truely passionate about so in no particular order here goes ..
1) Family + friends.
Always have been as far back as i can remember, people can say or do anything about me but attack or hurt one of my friends or family and ill be the most malicious and callous people youll ever meet in your life. Ive cut people off before for hurting friends or family members. Although, i honestly dont know if that is a good or a bad trait in me :(
2) Work.
Surprisingly enough, im passionate about what i do for a living. gary can attest this as i do spend 90% of my waking day sat in the office working in some way, shape or form lol
3) Music.
Again Gary can attest to this, anytime we go into a record store i HAVE to buy at least 1 album, doesnt matter to me who the artist or group is but i absolutely love my music and play it all day long lol
4) Not sure if this counts or not but. with a 'passion' i hate most kids between the ages of 2 and 7 lol
Well thats my boring list of 4 lol
Regards,
Lee
thanks for sharing...
those aren't boring at all...
got a giggle out of the comment about the kids...
I'm the same as you when it comes to family and friends and
protecting them with all my might... I can turn into such
a bitch if someone tries to hurt, defame, disrespect, or
take advantage of any of my family or friends... I could
chew someone up and spit them out and not look back...
so you and I are like two peas in a pod as far as that goes...
:)

it might be an onion flower... I'll try to find a picture...Quote:

those are so pretty...
I think those are the same ones my mother grew once upon
a time that were deep purplish blue, hanging from an arched
trellis... if those even come in that color... they look like
what she had once upon a time...
but those aren't the ones I was referring to as the 3ft. tall
round ball flowers on a stalk... (maybe they are onion flowers
as lee suggested - I'll hunt for a picture - unless you have one...)

I wish you had a digital camera... I'd love to see your flowers...

not to worry... I love plants too...
I wish I had a greenhouse...
does anyone here have a greenhouse ??
I like all sorts of plants...
I don't know why but lately I enjoy a dish with a variety
of cactus and small gravel in a zen like smooth pattern
with a tiny rake... it's soothing to gently move the top layer
around ... originally it was just a large shallow pot bottom
with fine fine sand and a mini itty bitty rake for the swirling
and manipulating the sand into patterns... then cactus was added...
I should have put them in something else... I miss having JUST
my zen dish... it was sitting on a short bookcase with a water
fountain next to it... love the sound of water dripping from rocks...
~Bell
now that you mention it - it did take my moms more then 2 years...Quote:

My passions are the internet, travelling abroad, history, foreign languages (as I speak 5 other) and sex, of course :) Sometimes, politics as well :)
My site is messed up too, luckily the library here has a HUGE sci-fi/fantasy/horror section in Large Print. You should check that out, the books are bigger, but much easier to read. By the way, I loved your Liberty kissing Justice Avatar.Quote:

Yea, I've thought about doing that ... just seems there's no time to go to the library and check into it! I find it much easier to read here on line on my big screen.Quote:

Glad you liked the avatar, I'll probably switch between the me and it avatar when I get that urge to move the furniture around in the living room again!
Eeek...so that great big 24 year old tree in my neighbor's yard that is taller than her house is a WEED? Pretty wierd...I guess it dosn't spread here, because there are only a few of them around, but they are covered with beautiful Magenta flowers that look like little feather dusters and they smell like passion fruit, so weed or not I really like them. Sorry they are such a pain in the ass in Australia, land of the creepiest creepies and crawlies..and hottest guys on earth :PQuote:

it is an environmental weed in Aus.

What can I say but thanks for the compliment - we aussies know we're hot. We forgive you for the weeds that turn up in Australian and choke our natural habitats and we're sending snails to you in return!:p
It probably isn't a weed in the US, just watch it though, with all the climate change you might just have a problem on your hands.

Allan
Should I be worried that I've thought a couple times about what my answer in this thread would be and haven't yet been able to come up with anything conclusive?

It's just too cool!
So tell us what you THOUGHT your passions were ... and why you decided they aren't .. maybe that will help you focus on where the truth lies about what you really are passionate about.Quote:

Ok here are the passions of my life. I kept adding and changing this but after a day or two of just looking at it I realized the first 4 I wrote truly are my passions…
My Family and Friends, these two words are almost interchangeable for me. When someone is my friend they become my family. And if you’re my family there is very little I will not do to protect and cherish. And as Lee and Bell said, fuck with one of mine and you’re in more trouble than you can imagine. I will open heaven or raise hell for these people, as some of you already know.
Plants - while I don’t have as much time as I’d like for this, I love potting and planting things. It’s one of those hobbies that can take me away from myself for a moment, connects my nature to nature. I simply love going to the local home store and finding these crappy little clippings that everyone else avoids – I bring them home and in a few weeks they are full and happy. I have an aloe plant that the store clerk threw into my bag because he thought it was a piece of dead twig now it’s four feet wide. I actually avoided this for a ling time, but growing up with my parents, you just learn it without trying. I’m looking forward to fencing in our property and start planning a proper garden.
My spirituality… I’m not sure if this is the right word or not. I’m an extremely spiritual person and teach many people about it. This isn’t a religion, but a way of life; and, extremely important to me.
Holistics – this is actually the one field I found my calling. For years I looked not only at medicine as a way to health but home remedies and the frame of mind of a person. This is actually what I did my two degrees in. And, one day I will finish my thesis to complete my PhD in Holistic Psychology (should have been completed 6 months ago). This also ties in closely to my spirituality.
So there you go! My official list ;)

When you're ready, let me know, I am happy to help in any way that I can even from a distance :)Quote:

Passions are very important to have in my opinion.
Here's mine.
1. Prince: I've loved his music since I was a preteen.
2. Reading: I'm a bookaholic
3. Computers
4. Daydream: I agree with George Carlin, everyone needs at least 3 hours of daydreaming a day.
5. School: I love to learn.

years and years ago - I loved going to the Library at least
twice a week... since computers came into my life though
I have rarely been in a library... sometimes months and months
go by before I go - and then - only to VOTE... (smile...)
I actually hate to touch books that lots of others have touched..
ever since someone mentioned to me a few years back that if you
read in the bubble bath... possibly others do to... and your
bath tub is IN your BATHROOM... as is THEIRS... so no telling
how many bathrooms that book you are touching has been in...
ever since that - I don't think I have ever checked out a book...

Short of drugging me, none of the guys or gals on this board are gonna get me to remove my clothing except in my bedroom with them present ;)
If I one day decide that I'm the hottest guy on earth we might see what we can do about getting a GWW exlusive happening but until then - let you imagination run wild!
