Where should I move ?

Don't forget about Chicago. :) I just moved here a few months ago and love it. It has it's roots in a very down to earth, "working-class" (read: butch) world. Although it's very midwestern, it's very liberal.

We have the only *officially* recognized gay ghetto (Boystown), have a slew of bath houses and sex clubs (including the one we own...the nation's oldest gay theater and sex club).

Also, you get all those midwest boys that are escaping from their small towns for a little road trip to the "big city".

I moved to Chicago for 6 months and it was fantastic.
I just went there with 2 suitcases and didnt know a soul and had a great experience.

I lived in Lakeview and it was easy to get an apartment through Craigslist.com. I didnt have a car and walked everywhere. The gay neighborhood is called Boystown and its right there in Lakeview. And I was like 7 blocks away from Wrigley field which was cool too.

Theres a long street called Broadway that has 2 big supermarkets and hundreds and hundreds of cool smaller stores, and large department stores too.
So I was able to walk to the supermarket, walk to buy clothes, everything. And theres a beach there too where Lake Michigan is.

Chicago has a huge bear scene and the people are super friendly. I had guys I met offer to drive me around Chicago and show me the city which was cool. And Chicago has some of the best food in the world too.

A lot of men I met were hot. There were a lot of hunky big dicked farmer type guys that would come in from Indiana or Wisconsin, Missouri, etc and they were friendly and fucking dynamite in bed.

If youre into baths theres a bath there called mans country that has a lot of older and heavier guys. And The Chicago Eagle is great, but its a $10 cab ride from Lakeview/boystown/wrigleyville.
I went to the Bijou theater and its great. Its in a beautiful neighborhood too.

I enjoyed my trip a lot.

i'm always in the market for a new location ( especially one that's heavy on profit and light on taxes! ) but i would not recommend hawaii as an ideal location to live.

1) hawaii neither manufactures/produces so most common items have to be shipped/flown in so expect delays and shipping/handling charges on that roll of toilet paper.

2) hawaii is tourist oriented making it "family-friendly" so adult entertainment is quite limited and adds to the lack of museums/theatres/concerts so hopefully you are good at entertaining yourself.

3) hawaii is expensive this is most reflected in our rents/sales of apartments/homes an average studio (10 x 10) can run anywhere from $ 1500.00 to $ 2000.00 a month

4) hawaii is devoid of any recognizable social culture because of our constant influx of tourist so there is always an atomsophere of ..."i fly at dawn"...

hawaii is however a very beautiful place to visit and i encourage you all to come and see , aloha!

First off, thanks for the info. I always wondered who was behind Bijou. I've seen the videos for a long time now. I'm really getting excited about Chicago. The cost of living isn't bad and seems to be a great place for an ultra liberal like me. Can't wait to check out the Theatre too.

Marc, thank you so much for sharing your experience in Chicago. It very much mirrors what I would be going through and I can now visualize myself there. I don't want to buy a car, I like walking so Lakeview sounds like the place for me. I'm definitely more of a thrift store kinda guy then a department store... you know but it's great to have those kinds of choices. Especially within walking distance.

I'm all hot and bothered now thinking about all that corn fed beef there. That's my favorite ! Chicago also has gay basketball which is a huge plus for me. There also hosting the Gay Games and I hope to be there before that all gets started.

I may do chicago for 8 months out of the year, then maybe head to Phoenix or LA for the winter. That seems like what might work best for me. Thanks for the info !

It should be fun for you then. My experience was 3 years ago so I dont know if anything has changed in Chicago.

Taxi's are everywhere and the bus and train systems are great from what I understand, but I myself only walked and took cabs.

Where I was in Lakeview there were cool little music stores, book stores, arts and crafts stores, art galleries, discount warehouses, delis and restaurants everywhere. Outdoors cafe's with almost all gay guys cruising each other lol. Very gay and gay friendly, you see gay couples holding hands once in a while. And the beach is a few blocks in the other direction with a great park for walking.
Some furniture stores too, but I just called 1800-mattress and they delivered a bed the next day which worked for me. I ordered office furniture and computer supplies through Staples and they delivered it all.

If youre only looking for a short term lease then you may want to look in the papers or on Craigslist. Every apartment broker I talked to said they only offer a 1 year lease, and I didnt know if I wanted to stay a full year so I ended up not using them.
Im sure you already know this but its hot and humid in the summer and freezing cold in the winter.

After an awesome 6 months in Chicago I moved back to Boston (my home town) but now Im looking to move again myself.

Ive visited dc, nyc, nj, nocal, socal, fort lauderdale, austin, the netherlands, montreal, toronto, providence, boston, and chicago to check out if I wanted to move there.
The 5 places I seriously considered moving to were were Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, and Southern California and after giving it serious thought I decided that I want to move to Southern California.

The scenery is beautiful and I love the architecture of the south west. Theres the added benefit of California being very porn friendly. I know I could get a bunch of guys to jack off on camera for $50 if I wanted to lol.

Sorry for talking so much, this thread is of great interest to me because you sound like me looking for where to go next for the next adventure, lol.

Well it looks like I'm sticking around Denver for another year. Even though I love the thought of the next adventure, I just can't take another cross country move (at least not this year). I rented a big loft in Lodo a block away from Coors field (where the foxhole and the old Tracks 2000 are) in Denver. My landlord owns it and needed to rent or sell so I said I'd take it because it is beautiful and I always wanted a place like that but the main reason is I'll be able to film in it alot easter. I have like 500 square feet now and I think it's like 1300 so quite abit larger but certainly not huge.

I've called myself VideoVoyeur on Manhunt and have gotten lots of guys interested in being filmed for free. I've done about 3 hours of edited filming, 6 guys, and it's been alot of fun helping them fulfull their fantasy of being on video. This is just my first week of doing this so hopefully I'll have a few dvd's to go up with soon. I guess I just love porn. The energy, meeting new guys, fucking new guys and being fucked by them and doing the filming. Each experience is new and unpredictable. I've always wanted to produce dvd's so this is my chance to do it here in Denver for at least another year.

Thank you for all your help everyone. Be nice to each other. This is a community of people that are very giving. They don't deserve to be treated with disrespect.

Flashback to my bar hopping days. Foxhole and Tracks, they had different names with I first started going out (The Men's Room & Paradise Garage). That kind of dates me for people who know Denver ;) Amazing how that area has changed, wouldn't recognize it if I hadn't watch it happen.

We started in this biz in Denver and it was amazingly easy to find quality guys for shoots. Well, maybe not easy, but more so than we ever expected.

Well fuck a duck :mental: My landlord wants to keep the loft for his business so I won't be moving there. I kinda got that feeling that he didn't really want to lease it. It's zoned commercial/residential and well, that's the way it goes...

So, back to square one. I wasn't too keen on paying $1,500 a month anyway :uhoh:

But seriously, Plano is an awful place where white-trash goes went they come into a little money... the land of the $30,000 a year millionaires, lol. And ATTITUDE up the ass! Everyone has a BMW and a Hummer, a six bedroom brick house with 4 bathrooms, everyone goes to church on Sunday, everyone looks and dresses the same. And if you are slightly different then them, you will NOT feel comfortable there.

Plano is also well-known for it's heroin and steroid using high school students. Read this, it's tragic. But if you know anything about Plano, you can understand why kids take drugs to escape.

I have been to Plano. I really can't remember it being really any different than any other upper middle class suburb anywhere in the country. I really didn't see any redeeming qualities, and no amount of WalMarts, upscale WalMarts, googleplex movie theaters, double mortgaged homes and leased luxury cars would excite me.
