During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. -- United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171
Anyone care to file charges?
Am I saying something that is inaccurate? I didn't say anything about Republicans. This is about Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton winning the Democrat Party's nomination to run for President.
The allegations that Obama alleged sexual behavior is simple gay baiting that promotes anti gay stereotypes and prejudice. These charges are coming from Democrats to Obama.
Here today, it is the Democrats who are exploiting fears regarding people like you and me for political gain.
Steve
Larry Sinclair, the individual behind the YouTube video, works for the Republican National Committee?
Oh wow. Why didn't you explicitly state that at the beginning of the post.
I mistakenly read that Larry Sinclair's movie and message are Democrat generated. Because if they were Democrats, then it would be DEMOCRATS exploiting anti gay stereotypes and fears of people like you and me for political gain.
Steve
You're right. Wow, I was so wrong. I really should rethink my whole stance on the man because he didn't put his hand on his heart during the National Anthem at a steak fry. But, having seen the video he did sing along, which was really hard to do considering the woman singing it did such a bad job that I have to believe she is a Communist for murdering our beloved National Anthem so horribly. And then Obama did clap afterwards, unless he was violently slamming his palms together which could mean that he was thinking of how he plans to crush the American people once he tricks us into voting him in for office. And while we're at it, let's look at his clothes. Is he wearing red, white, and blue? No, he's wearing blue and khaki!!! Obviously a symbol of his evil plan to destroy the US with his mixture of blue eye'd optimism and bland, beige, bad politics.
Maybe he should take a lesson from our beloved President, who demonstrates for us here the appropriate way to show respect for our country.
Man, I gotta stop reading The Onion so much. :cheekymonkey:
Wow....I just got up this morning and checked whats been going on in here and 4 pages of posts on this topic. Wide variety of opinions which is always good to see. From where I am in Oz, and what little I know of American politics, does anyone truely believe that America is going to get either their first African American or first female President? There were rumours here when a show called Commander and Chief aired here that there was not going to be a second season of that show because it was about a female president and it didnt go down too well there. Not sure if theres any truth in that but if thats true of opinions of a TV show, then how much more in real life? I think though that america would benefit more from a female president than that of Obama simply because hes just another man only with a different skin colour to all the other presidents. Anyone agree? Or am I being very ignorant of what goes on there?
cheers
Personally I would vote for a purple transsexual that was running for office so long as they had the experience, and the resume that I thought was fit to run the country. I think if Obama gets in office, you will see a whole bunch of people who do everything they can to keep him from getting anything accomplished. He isn't seasoned to deal with the pressure IMO. Now, put him on a ticket as a VP with Hillary in the front seat, and that is a ticket I would vote for, not only that, it would also leave Obama in 8 years in a position with more experience, and IMO more elect abilty.
Obama's BS about if he can withstand the Clinton's so he can withstand the Republicans in the general election couldn't be further from the truth. They will take every single thing that has barely, if even make a beep on the MSM radar, and they will dissect it, use it, and abuse it until they ruin his name.
Hillary Clinton is very well versed on dealing with Republicans, not only has she had her record dissected when Bill was governor of Arkansas for 12 years, then while he was running for President, and while he was president for 8 years. She also withstood it in the election over her senate seat. She is a pro.
Just found another speech that Obama has plagiarized.

Why does everyone express incredulity over a female or black individual being elected President? I think that really just ducks everything.
I think if they are a good candidate, people would vote for them. Why not?
In the 1980s, the United States entertained Jesse Jackson and Geraldine Ferraro for the President/Vice President. They went nowhere. And they lost by huge margins. Was this simply because America couldn't collectively elect a women or a black man? No. They were poor candidates for office.
Clinton and Obama are significantly stronger candidates, and illustrative of how far we have come. And according to polls, they have a very serious shot at winning the general election.
I'm not stating that there is not racism or sexism in the United States. I'm sure there is that is the UK or Germany, and they have had female prime ministers.
Now, I'm not going to vote for Clinton or Obama. But that is not because I'm sexist or racist. But no matter what, Obama has shown how far blacks have come in the United States. To those of you living elsewhere, he truly has impressed a lot of people, which no one was expecting.
Steve
I think it's great that we have all different opinions. However, I'm beginning to think that politics should be left out of our business forums. It really makes me want to re-think who i want to do business with. Some of the idiotic statements i have read recently in this post as well as others sends shivers down my spine! Anyone feel the same way?
Political opinions don't really matter to me. I come from a family of Southern Baptist Conservatives, you know the ones that hate everything gay, and are anti-abortion to the most extreme degree. Does that mean I don't talk to them? No, it doesn't bother me, of course my opinions are completely opposite of theirs, but I don't let that interfere with the fact that they are still my family.
Same with business partners, I could care less if the person was trying to get an amendment to the constitution to allow Bush a life time presidency, now would I agree with them? No, would I still do business with them? Yes.
lol you're a freak!
I told you the photo played to those stories.. I didn't say I believed them or that they were true.
I'm not a big political junkie but being in Oz the last 5 years and seeing what a mess the wrong president can make of our country I've been paying a lot of attention to the candidates this election and have my opinions.
As you know I respect your opinion, and everyone else's opinions here regarding politics. That's what makes this place a great place to post these things at times. We can respect each others opinions and ideas, toss each other around a bit and not take things to far, even though mine is the best candidate :bunny:
The Economist this week runs a circumspect essay on Barack Obama
http://www.labnet.com/oldthink/new2/...6economist.jpg
I'm being very tongue-in-cheek over that. But if you look at the blogs that that pic has been posted on and the way a lot of people have responded it really pisses me off. Not a word about his policy or the things that he's done that matter, it's all about some stupid fish fry and what he was trying to say by not putting his hand over his heart and how that somehow relates to what kind of president he's going to be. It reminded me of that freaky ass movie Jesus Camp where they were having the kids pray to the cardboard cutout of George Bush.
Well ya know it doesn't help when Michelle Obama says things like "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country" I mean she's single handedly helping the GOP band together and sing coombya. And instead of explaining herself, she lets McCains wife attack her and M. Obama stays mum. Yikes!
Whatever happens, for me personally, it's been a great learning experience and I'm totally into it.
LOL...yes, but you need to remember that SOME people, (not naming names), often post just to stir things up, or annoy others.
On the other hand, I do like knowing where people stand politcally. I would not want to promote a site or a program that was owned by a Republican anymore than I would want to promote a site run by a former child molester.
Now...did I say that to just stir things up? :uhoh:
fineline --- Actually GWW has a pretty rich history of political discussion. And apparently compared to other discussion forums, people find a way to talk about things politically and maintain a reasonable decorum.
I enjoy talking about things with people who disagree with me, as it keeps me thinking about my own beliefs. For me, I (honestly try) to be respective and do not take things personally.
And I like hearing others talk about what they think. Not flames, but thoughtful talk, even if it can get emotional.
Steve
I totally agree with Steve, and he states it more eloquently then I ever could.
On another note about not working with, or promoting Republicans, or people with other differing views I have to say I disagree. I've met and done business with people from many different backgrounds but as long as they are a good person, and have the same business practices I do, I'm fine with them.
The Gay community is small, the online Gay webmaster community is even smaller. If we start parsing each other off for the smallest petty things, or a political view, then we're doing a disservice to our very diverse community, not to mention the power we gain by sticking together and supporting each other, despite our differences.
Then continue to see your civil liberties erode. McCain has said that he will continue to make judicial appointments exactly like Bush. Women can say goodbye to choice. We can be certain that marriage will be federally defined as between men and women only. Stem cell research... gone. Torture and unaccountable spying on it's own citizens... why yes! Global warming... doesn't exist. Bleah! More conservative Supreme Court Justices will be the death of this country as we know it.
That's old news. He has managed to change (flip-flop?) every decent position he has ever had to try to gain favor with the Republican base. Like most republicans, McCain is willing to dance with the devil (the religious fundamentalists, neocons) to get elected. "The Straight Talk Express" ran off the rails long ago.
That's a great way to nullify your vote. Remember how we ended up with Bush in 2000? Ralph Nader looked like a good alternative then. But if he hadn't been on the ballot then, Gore's popular vote win would have been undeniable. Can you imagine how much better things would be now it Nader hadn't been an option?
Xstr8guy, sorry to disagree it won’t be politicians nor the courts that destroy this country it will be the American people themselves. They vote in Reps and Senator that can’t figure out how to control their spending, they vote for a president who promises the moon but can’t do anything but moon the people.
Not this shit again! Wearing a flag on you lapel and putting your hand on your heart during the national anthem are no proof of being a patriot. http://mediamatters.org/items/200710240006?f=h_latest
I am voting for Hillary in the primary, but if she doesn't make it to the election I've made the commitment to vote for Obama.
I've made this commitment in part because I'm tired of the job Bush has done, and he's part of the Rep party. They both look bad at this point. The other reason I've made this commitment is because of a google search on Obamas site for the term Gay.. here are the results. This in particular caught my eye, and it wasn't what was said that impressed me, it's what he did.
I'm voting for Hillary because she has the experience and life dedication to the liberal causes I support, and I know she can get the job done. If she doesn't make it to the nomination I'm voting for Obama for the promise that he'll make good on his commitment to the GLBT community and equal rights.
If Obama wins, and doesn't pursue our causes, we'll be showing up in droves with signs chanting "YES WE CAN!" and we will no longer be ignored.
Reason enough for me to vote for him! ;)
And I'm with you on Hillary too. I think Bill was by far the best president in my lifetime. And if she is a reflection of that genius, then give me 4 more (years) of Clinton!
But I will happily vote for Obama if he is the nominee. Both current Democratic candidates (and Edwards) are miles ahead McCain and the other Republican candidates.
As much as I prefer Hillary, right now I'm thinking that most of us will have "Obama/Edwards 08" bumper stickers on our cars after August 28th... probably before that the way the primaries are going.
I am still one of those undecided voters so can one of you Obama fans or even Hillary fan answer this. Tonight Obama states he will end the war in '09, that's cool, but than he goes on to say he wants to spend the $9B a day here in the US. That's okay too but where's he getting the money? He and Hillary also has great plans for healthcare, Hillary (from what I read) states if you don't have insurance we will take the money from your check to provide the insurance and Obama states he's going to lower everyones insurance bill $2500/year or if you don't have it assist you in getting it. Where's all this money coming from? The money being spent on the war is borrowed from China, are they going to borrow to pay for these projects? Raise taxes?
Now for the bozo McCain fans what he going to do besides spend more and keep us in Iraq for 100 years?
There are many things that McCain is, but "stupid, senile, corrupt, spineless" are not among them.
He is not spineless, he has back the Iraqi war and "the surge" from day one. You may not agree with the iraq war, but he has stood his ground on Iraq..that is hardly being spineless.
Corrupt?? That is incredible! He is one of only FIVE senators in the Senate that had NO pork for their state! What has he been corrupt about?
Senile? Come on now..yeah, he's an elderly man..but he's not senile.
And he is not stupid. I don't agree with his politics many times, especially his backing of the war. But if we are going to have a true 'debate' about the candidates, let's not get into this juvenile name calling especially when it is not true.
Yeah, I'm defending McCain in THIS instance..and this is from a very die hard DEMOCRAT! Let's try to stick to the issues maybe.
Dean, for me at least, Obama's suport for gay rights, abortion and his stance AGAINST the Iraqi war keeps me voting democratic this time. I do understand your concern about Obama's lack of experience. But compared to McCain, who has the experience and would do MASSIVE harm to this country, especially with his support of the Iraqi war, keeps me from ever thinking of voting for him.
i wrote a long winded reply but then i saw this
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/0...s_n_87493.html
my boyfriend was joking last night about some moron on tv
that supports obama and says, with conviction and certainty, what exactly obama will do and how he'll react as president
what?
but of course he makes me feel good and he inspires us
bla bla bla
Back to reality
the president of the united states can only veto laws
he can't pass those laws
congress does, made up of senators and local representatives
they can extinguish all his ideas with a simple fuck you by
passing everything with a 2/3 majority and tell him to stick it
on the oval office chair and sit on it
and whoever thinks obama as president will end the iraq war immediately?
dream on
there's a reason they're building that huge embassy over there
and everything has been decided anyway
Dean, I think you and I pretty damn close on this election. I still have my fingers crossed for a backroom deal. But if Obama is the democratic candidate, I will vote for him. McCain simply can not be trusted to appoint the right judges to the supreme court. In my eyes this is the number one issue this year. There are a few liberal justices that would like to retire but won't because they would be replaced by some gawd aweful right winger. Stevens doesn't hasn't have that much longer to live. I think Ginsburg wants to call it quits too.
Remember that episode of The Simpsons, when the two aliens, Kang and Kodos, kidnapped presidential candidates Bill Clinton and Bob Dole and assimilated their bodies in order to run in their place? The day before the election, Homer exposed them and the American public discovered that the presidential candidates were both cycloptic, reptilian aliens with long slimy green tentacles.
"You foolish earthlings forget," said Kodos, "This is a two party system. You have to vote for one of us!"
"But what if we vote for a third party candidate?" says a faceless voice in the crowd.
"Oh, sure, you can do that," the Kang replies, "and throw your vote away!" At this point both aliens laugh maniacally.
In the end, Kang wins and the human race is enslaved and forced to build a giant death ray.
People shouldn't vote out of fear. Keeping the U.S. a two party system will never move us towards a more fair democracy. But we're stuck in a Catch-22: the third party candidates never get votes because everyone thinks they'll never win, but they'll never win because they don't get votes. It doesn't seem like people will ever get out of the habit of voting for the lesser of two evils, be them Democrats and Republicans, or slimy space aliens.
The bottom line is that if you don't have the balls to vote for whose right, then you should not vote at all.
So, who would you vote for if the republican was Pro-Life and anti-gay, and the democrats had a pro-life and anti-gay candidate as well? It's not as far fetched as you think. The democrats have started courting the right wing...and there are plenty of democrats who think that gay rights is what is hurting the party. Democrats for Life continue to grow every day...Would you still choose to vote for one of them?
