When my rents divorced, for a time my mom had us living in a trailer park because she was busting ass to take care of us and couldn't afford a house. Trailer parks are fine, trailers are fine, better shelter than most animals on earch can provide for themselves, no reason to feel bad or care if you live in one. But the terms "That's so trailer park" and "trailer trash" still kinda sting me and make me instantly think the people saying them are ignorant. It's no different.

Putting down any aspect of another persons life that they don't WANT to feel bad about and adding a stigma to it is stupid and ignorant, we should ALL want to build each other up not tear each other down. Who wants to live in a world where you are surrounded by people with insecurities and holes in their self-esteem that YOU helped put there?

ps - Netpond is a GREAT service to webmasters; I'm sorry I made my own ignorant statements in response to someone elses. I know it's hard to weed out all the crap, nobody should expect you guys to.

pss - asshats queens? thats just FUNNY in my opinion! Also, what pissed me off in that thread wasn't just him using gay in a negative way, but also the part about gay men not being REAL men. That'll piss me off fast everytime.

A hetro female friend of mine used to use that term all the time. I asked her to stop using it and she did.

She only started using it because her 15 year old son says it.

She also asked her boy to stop using it when she realized (after my conversation with her) that it IS and does have negative connotations.

He was always saying it because all of his peers said it.

Some people just don't think...they say what they hear others say and they don't even realize how much it may hurt someone or how stupid it might sound. (my opinion is that they are more sheep like, or they can't think too well for themselves) They just wanna be cool, trendy and be with the times...use, wear and say what everyone else does.

People that are hurt or offended by this are supposed to just get tougher skin and blow it off....because some will say "They didn't mean it that way"

Whatever way someone says something, if it offends someone else...why couldn't they just apologize? Then maybe whoever was offended could let it go.....Then that would be the end of it!

But seriously.. there is a reason we call people African Americans instead of other words. Here in Australia Aboriginals are offended being called Abo . I was talking to a friend and said the word "Abo" in conversation ( shortening Aboriginal by nature ) and he had a ghastly look on his face and said "Don't call them that it's an insult to them." I didn't know that.. but now that I new better.. I did better. I don't use that word. Pretty simple really and all I needed to know is that they were offended and that's all it took for me to stop. Plain and simple. :high:

If this is so acceptable and picking up slang from others is cool, I'd be saying "niggah" all the the time from hanging out with certain black friends. "shut up faggot!" is a common on too...grrrr

As for words having power ... yes. But then gays magnificently turned the word "queer" from a derogatory word into a word of empowerment! Something I've always had immense respect for. So words only have the power one gives them. Don't give anyone the power to offend you, is my advice.

I'll tell ya a little story...

Back in the day I worked at KFC ( one of three jobs I had supporting myself through high school ) I had worked there a few months and really needed the job. Somehow.. After a while I came out to a girl there. Now this KFC was in a not so good part of town and a lot of the locals worked there. One night a guy ( named Germaine ) came in the back to get ready for work. He said "Hey Tom I heard you're a faggot." I turned around and said "Hey Germaine I heard you're a ******." He said "What?!" I got in his face and said "You heard me. If I'm a faggot, then you're a ******." He was shocked .. started laughing and said.. "Man you got balls."

Sometimes you just have to demand respect from people. Not special privileges or treatment, just common decency.

The bigger picture: the rest of the str8 guys had a problem with me working there.. made it very difficult. The boss found out I was Gay and fired me. I then filed the first sexual harassment claim, based on sexual orientation, in Sacramento with the department of fair housing and employment. Local Gay organizations demonstrated outside the store.. etc. etc.

If you don't stand up for yourself and expect to be treated fairly then you're going to foster resentment and your self-esteem will suffer. We're all human beings and should treat each other with respect and fairness. We all mess up sometimes, nobody's perfect, but some people don't even put out the effort to be respectful. :evil:

Nah that dosn't mean everyone there is, just that they seem to accept the assholes freely. Which would give me the impression that Netpond is FOR assholes not against them. I already apoligized and tried to clear that up, most days I don't even care what people type or say I was just in a foul mood that day. I don't think it's gonna hurt Netpond any...they've made it clear in this thread that they are all about being a positive place for all.

Maybe we should all saying "That's really Gay" when we see something that's positive...i.e. Someone helping a blind person accross the street or seeing a great piece of art...lol...wait, it probably already was done or made by someone gay!

In any event, it IS being used as a negative saying, for now anyway.

Many colors often portray several phsycological apsects to surfers when they are seen online so for example, using a mixture of reds and blacks on a fetish site would sell the site better than a mixture of blues and yellows.

In a similar manner to how varying shades of blue on a sites tour for a gay site at least for me, tends to convert sites better.

You echo what I was going to say. I don't think people are "fucking stupid" for asking about the best colors to promote a website. Using pink is too obvious and there are other colors that are associated with certain types of websites.

I've seen people here slam str8 webmasters who came here to ask about the "gay niche". To the str8 world, gay IS a niche. Hell, sponsors promote it that way and newbie webmasters learn it that way.

Years ago, virtually every gay website had a rainbow background, rainbow icon, something with a rainbow == to identify it as a gay website. Today, you don't see that very often.
