Btw, if you're looking for something a little different than your typical paysite, I suggest giving Michael (dzinerbear) and his Universal Bear site a look-see. It's a perfect example of AVS/AEN done right.

Funny you should mention Michael and his site. You just might have to check out the November issue of AVN Online... :)

I do not believe anyone who's site is unique and making bank would come out and show it off just to have it copied by everyone the next day :)

Unless they just want to show off and bask in the light of fame by being on AVN lol


I've never seen a webmaster who makes the cash come out and say this is how I do it. It's always only info on the surface of things with little hints here and there

By the way, definitely wanted to comment on this. The intent of the article was always to focus on the funky, fresh and fun aspect of what's out there, but I have to tell you, it's incredibly hard to come by a site that is indeed those things. Having only been in the adult Internet business for just under a year now, I can tell you that the trend seems to be to "follow the trend," in that I don't see an awful lot of true originality in the sites popping up.

This is not at all to belittle or criticize the work that anyone here is doing with their sites (I've checked out a lot of them, and they are, indeed, QUALITY sites worthy of the attention, and it's obvious you people are putting a lot of work and love into them), but man, it sure would be nice to see some really edgy, unique and NEW ideas popping up now and then. Hmmm, another straight niche site? Another military niche site? Another fraternity niche site? Shit, man, where are the punk rock tattooed metal head Asian boys playing "I dare you" in their back yard? The furry daddies who get off on balloon fetishes? Is there a GothicSluts.com of the gay community?

The article is just about finished, and, though it reports on seven webmasters who I feel are doing great work (and who have my respect), it is not, in fact, the article I set out to write. But I'm still proud of it. And you're all still really cool people!

But the question that I want to ask is: Is it that we're just content to rehash the stuff that everyone else is doing, or are there really no new ideas left?

Very good question and, the answer imho for the majority is YES.

Most in the industry despite what they tell us, just want to make a quick buck, if they can do that replicting the success of others, they will do so.

I disagree completely! There are so many good ideas that are never developed and plenty of great niches that are totally ignored/under-exposed for whatever reasons.

I hope sites like these are just the tip of the iceberg because the market could sure use the variety.

That's just fear and fear does nothing to build up a community. xstr8guy and I have exactly the same content on our sites and we share openly. We trade links, we help one another, we ask one another for design or SEO advice, we even buy exclusive content together. If I can't get the sale, I'd rather he get it and I know he feels the same.

Besides when you hit number one in Google it's not like you're actually hiding. You're already there for the world to see. And anyway, it's not like I'm lurking in the shadows on these boards. I've got a big mouth and if I've got something to say or share, I usually do.

You know I put a lot of work into my latest site which is niche site in nightvision, but, since it involves straight men, it's "just another straight niche site" Do you know how hard it is to hear that crap from someone that just writes about the industry, and who doesn't go through all the work and effort to come up with a new concept, create original exclusive content, find models, pay them, shoot them, digitize their video, put them up on the web, deal with customers, the list goes on.

We all have our place in the industry, which is fine. But it seems that anything that isn't totally off the wall is just another porn site.. I dunno. There are differences in photographic quality, quality of men, site design, format. I know you have a different perspective not being the creator of what you're writing about but I don't think it's all as bland and dire as you think it is.

You know, I could say, "Ken, you're just doing another boring article on site reviews. Everyone in the industry does those. Why don't you do something different? Step out of the box. Make a difference." Writers, like websites evidently, are a dime a dozen. What makes you stand out?

Jim, whilst those sites are definately 'unique' so far as the niche goes, other than that, there is nothing that sets them apart from the crowd, sorry to say it but its true.

They are all revshare based, all use the similar types of content that we have seen before and all use a similar layout that we have seen before, in my eyes, that makes the the same as those sites we have seen in the past, just in a different niche.

Generally speaking, the industry as a whole behaves like lemmings, all following the same methods of doing business as others before have used, all the time, slicing an already small pie, in to even smaller slices for everyone.

To me, a unique idea is something that stands out from the crowd to the masses, not a few, you quite rightly say there are plenty of ideas that go undeveloped which i personally think is a shame.

As a whole the industry is constantly in one of two states, 'stagnant' or 'following'. You only have to look back over the last 12 months to see that at present, we're in a 'following' state, one company launches a VOD site, 10 others launch a VOD site, one company launches a cell phone site, 10 others launch a cell phone site, one company launches a straight guy site, 10 others also do the same there is no originality for the most part in the industry at the present time, which takes me back to my original statement, as a whole, the industry would rather duplicate what others are already doing than go out on a limb and try something on an individual basis, where the risk is fully on their back, without another person or company trying it first.

So many of the ideas that go undeveloped, if they were tried, even on a minute scale, could come in to fruition there are a few people on GWW alone that come up with what, on the face of it, would seem to be a wacky idea for a site / niche / business model run with it on a smaller scale and grow the idea as it makes money.

Hell, 5 years ago who would have thought that having a board where you could get no work done, be insulted 99% of the time for free, post to have your 'sig' seen and generally slack off would be one of the biggest money making schemes on the web for its owners? I would have laughed at the idea as im sure almost everyone of you reading this would have done.

Again, there hasnt been an original idea in the industry for a good few years, there has been lots of replication, but no originality.

To me you know what is unique today? A site that actually delivers exactly what it says it is. A site that doesn't scam its members with tired old stuff and so what if the actual action within is like any other? Least they deliver what they say... and in todays world that alone makes them unique.

Site like Michael's Universal Bear comes to mind where he doesnt alter his premise, a site that deals with bears in all shapes & sizes. Is that unique because of what he shows or that he shows what he says?

What is truly unique is people like Basschick who take the hard knocks from government regulations and find a way to survive in the industry in a way that is innovative and yet still sexy. That's unique to me, where a webmaster will look beyond what they do and find a way to simply survive in a jungle called the Internet.

Webmasters like Michael, Xtrst8 who never flinch at helping even though they are behind the gun on their own work. That is unique and fresh to me.

People like Bec & Basschick & Luke who go out of there way to actually provide service to people without drama, without fanfare even simply because that's the kind of people they are... those are webmasters who are unique... because you see the word doesnt' mean new... doesn't even mean different... it means special, rare, limited... so frankly all this talk about what site is experimenting with what isn't about being unique, simply about moving forward, or not.

Well l couldn't respond to every point you made... and I wasn't taking it personal as you pointing me out specifically, I was telling you how a webmaster feels about your comments when they put a lot of work into their sites creating original content, etc.

AND I was challenging you about your writing, and doing something different, like you've challenged all of us to do something different in our work, but you don't want to respond to that..
