The absolute best way to speed up firefox is via a js profile. Those two links will show you how.
I have done this and tweak it now and then and have even put firefox on my usb keychain. That's how much I love this baby. Just love being able to pop in the mini usb and have my own version of the best damn browser the world has ever seen.
And IE7 still doesnt come close.
