It is ironic that your only focus is Gay porn yet you call it a niche.
Television, radio and cable are all markets, not niches in the communications market. The same goes for Gay porn. :high:
Lol! And Chilihost is hosting my site gayisnotaniche.comQuote:

Also the definition of a market is:
The business of buying and selling a specified commodity: the soybean market.
1) A market price.
2) A geographic region considered as a place for sales: grain for
the foreign market; the West Coast market.
3) A subdivision of a population considered as buyers: cosmetics
for the upscale market.
vs. :the definition of a niche
A special area of demand for a product or service: “One niche that is approaching mass-market proportions is held by regional magazines” (Brad Edmondson).
-------------
So, according to the above rules of the English language, straight porn and Gay porn are either BOTH niches or MARKETS and one cannot be considered different from the other.
In order for Gay porn to be a niche, it would have to fulfill a special area of demand within the straight porn market, which, of course, it doesn't :high
I don't even know why we continue to have this debate. A niche is a specialized area of a market. I take great offense to "gay" being classified as a "specialized area of a market"
Peddling porn is a "Service". We supply our Servide to Straight, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and/or Transgender "Markets". Within those Markets are "specialized areas" known as "Niches".
Those are the facts, plain and simple.

Pronunciation: 'nich, ÷'nEsh
Function: noun
d : a specialized market
Agreed. I just think it's a bad omen of what's to come with the straight market invading the Gay market. It shows their mentality. They think of the Gay market as subservient to them, and quite frankly they will treat it that way if they ever get the upper hand in the Gay porn industry.Quote:

Look how AVN treats it's Gay sistersite Gayvn.com ... seems the trend. Have a token Gay employee, token Gay sister site that's out of date and doesn't serve a purpose.
Luke talks to his affiliate market.Quote:

Most in the biz consider gay a niche, generally because they are straight and that is what they bhave always been told.
Instead of trying to convert, IMHO, Luke simply applies "when in Rome.. etc etc".
Now that may NOT be why Luke has that stance, but it certainly is a positive by-product from a amrketing standpoint.
Getting some straight webmasters to send traffic to gay sites is a hard enough slog as it is without confusing them further over the niche vs market thing.
That's just my 2c.
For the record, I don't consider gay to be a niche, but as a market all on it's own with niches in itself. But be sure I call it whatever makes affiliates feel happy about it.
Business is objective.
:biker:
I don't have to worry about offending potential affiliates right now. Maybe someday when I have my own pay sites, I will call it "the gay niche" lol
Squirt,
I think you're absolutely right. The product or market is online porn, and the niches are straight (for men), straight (for women), gay, bisexual, transsexual, and perhaps others.
I think what we're reacting to and the point we're trying to make with these straight webmasters is that they think straight porn = online porn and "gay" is a niche within that. They don't see themselves as a niche just as gay is within the larger online porn market.
And I really don't think we have all that much to be worried about so long as they keep pumping out stuff like Street Bait or Bait Bus. They don't understand us, they don't want to understand us, they just want our money, and unless they hire gay people to help them, they will always miss the mark.

Oh great! The only article on gayisnotaniche.com was written by this guy. There goes all of my credibility, lol.Quote:

Jim,
I really think it's six of one, half dozen of another. Either online porn is the market and every major division is a niche; or straight online porn is one market and gay online porn is another market.
I still believe what I wrote. I'm just agreeing with Squirt that there might be another way of saying it.
Cheers

That's ok Michael, I'll get over it, lol. I'm just going to go register gayisnotanicheunlessyouconsideronlinepornasthemark etthengaywouldbeanicheofthepornmarket.com
well now, hang on, i'd say that the 'industry' is porn and thus 'gay' would still be the market and not the niche...
my pennies worth
