now having an effect on increasing food prices at the market - LA hits national high today as food prices have risen over the past year....
any guesses why?
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-f...-home-business
maybe its time to buy a farm and raise some chickens and tofu and stuff...
anybody know how to milk a cow?
Just paid $3.20 today for Reg. gas. My 4 cylinder car gets used now all the time. I have a high performance car that doesn't move all that much anymore since it need High test gas.
all this talk about higher prices at the pump having an effect on food prices here in LA got me thinking (and hungry yesterday) so.... I got out my old French made bread making robot and made some home made wheat bread to go along with Cam's home made beef stew... only 3 hours and 20 minutes and all I had to do is load the stuff into the machine - how easy is that?
damn, home made bread is so good I'm making it from now on
Cam mentioned something about the electricity used to power the machine but in the end, I think we'll be saving on the bread end of our food purchases in the future - specially with the price of a store bought loaf at $4.00 (+-) and a specialty store around our parts charging $6 or $7! -
but god forbid, all those extra carbs will end up on my obliques if I'm not careful - I guess that I should try not to make my old croissants
Can you mailed me a loaf of bread please, I love home made!
home made - man made - come on by for a slice of the best PonyBoy...
thing is, we just spent the day in the car doing our rounds and doing the valley - it always takes forever and the freeways are packed with one person drivers (not paying attention because their all ON THE PHONE) - but we tend to be among the few dual cars and eligible for the commuter lanes -
I nearly puked while stopped at a light and watching a brand new cadillac escalade get full service at $4.15/gallon (two guys sprawled all over the car cleaning and wiping and filling) while two of the hugest and largest pigs stuffed their faces with fast food throwing the wrappers out the fricken windows!)
where is the fuckin' country heading?
I wish I could come out there and break bread with you! I love home baked bread, when i ran a food service company I used to love to roll it out, watch it raise and then see it turn golden brown!
Try a few hours on the 495, thats the long island express way, 2 mph if you are lucky! I don't understand it because there are trains that go into the city just about every 15 minutes during rush hour.
Got to love the people that can afford to fill up a giant SUV
NEW YORK (AP) -- Gasoline prices set more records at the pump Friday, while gasoline and oil futures prices turned mixed after the previous session's big advance.
Retail gasoline prices rose 1.5 cents overnight to a national average price of $3.129 per gallon, a new high, and have risen 26 cents in the last month, according to AAA and the Oil Price Information Service.

Analysts blame strong consumer demand and a spate of unexpected refinery outages for the high prices, and say it could be mid-summer before they ease.

wheres my bike?
If everyone in the US would refuse to buy gas on the 15th, where the oil company would normally make 31 million dollars that day, they would make zero... however, everyone is going to continue to drive their cars, so when the 16th rolled around, everyone would go out and fill up then, causing a surge in sales. Any profit they would have lost on the 15th would be made up on the 16th, so it doesn't really send a message or stop them from changing the prices. If everyone traded in their cars for bikes and horses, that would send a message, but I doubt that is going to happen...
$3.39 in Findlay Ohio today...
It's been around $3.29 around most of Cleveland, but I did "luck out" and find a station at $3.19. Tossed 30 dollars into the tank and barely got it 3/4 full. This is making me nuts.
Prices are up 33.7 cents from a month ago and 30.4 cents from a year ago

when I first started this thread, my intent was to shed some light on my growing concern that our sales would decline based on a direct result of a drop in consumer spending relative to increasing costs at the pump
it seems that nobody has addressed the cause and effect issues
as posted on 4-2-07: quoting myself...
"what does this all have to do with the price of tea in China? and how does this have any effect on our member sales?
I dunno, but my guess is that people will want to stay home more, eat in and do their entertaining on line or my mail - this happened the last time we had a major blip (that's what I called it) - I remember people wanting to stay home, re-model their kitchens and baths and home entertainment centers..."
today - now - here in Beverly Hills and according to msn, more than 74 percent of consumers believe that fluctuating gas prices have affected their spending habits
http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/pro...521&ID=6930651
are we the only producers that have noticed a trend in sales? (I don't think so) - does anyone care when we look at other trends such as the sluggish summer doldrums we are about ready to head into? or are Cam and I the only ones that are watching our spending and investments....?
GASWAR - an idea that WILL work
This was originally sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from
one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. It's worth
your consideration.
Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $4.00 a
gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to
come down? We need to take some intelligen t, united action. Phillip
Hollsworth offered this good idea.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day"
campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just
laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt"
ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us
than it was a problem for them.
BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably
thinking ga soline
priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.79
for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC
nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is
CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them
that BUYERS control the
marketplace..... not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more
each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But
we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a
price war.
Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two
biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are o
selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and
Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out at this
point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach
millions of people.
I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us sends it to at least
ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more
(300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the
sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION
consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten
friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it
goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If
you don't understand how we can rea ch 300 million and all you have to
do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a
mathematician. But I am, so trust me on this one.)
How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to
ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could
conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!!
I'll bet you didn't think you and I
had that much potential, did d you?
Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you,
please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL
UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN.
THIS CAN REALLY WORK.
(The above was sent to me via email - Sorry if you have already seen it )
I have news for you. EXXON and MOBIL are the same company. Exxon owns Mobil.
It is a good idea.
If it was not for the fact that they buy and sell gas back a forth from each other already then it would work. Exxon will simply sell its gas to the guys that you are buying from at the time. They will make there $$$ ether way.
They got us by the balls by all working together.
The only thing that will stop them is to cut back on are demand for the stuff.
Gas prices are very high here in LA. but have you noticed that it has leveled out the last 2 weeks.
Why? The news came out 2 weeks ago that for the first time in history californians used less gas last year than the year before.
OOPS maybe that will mean that we will do the same this year to if they jack the price up too much.
Its demand that drives the market.
that's only the tip of the iceberg boys.... when I was designing for the main stream industry, I was always shocked to find out that so and so owned this and that and operated such and such
the deal is this, I was always told by marketing experts that consumers like to have "choice" as they put it.... this allows the consumer to think that they play a roll in making intelligent decisions before they shop
case in point, this whole nightmare with pet foods - what a shock it was (for most consumers) to find that high end and low end pet food products were and are actually produced by ONE company
also, in many airport food courts - in my former days as an airport desing planner - most all of the food choices were and still are owned and operated by Marriott - (with some obvious exceptions - starubucks) - by providing "choice" consumers think that they "can" make a choice
this holds true for all manufacturing including OIL production - the oil industry often trades products and fills in when shortages occur... often delivering fuel products in unmarked trucks...
disney operates mammoth real estate enterprises under independently operated companies that buy, sell and trade all kinds of properties, etc, etc, etc....
the really bizarre thing for me was when I learned how many of these enormous enterprises are NOT owned (formally) by US companies....
Gas Prices Poised to Hit All-Time High
"According to the Government Accountability Office, the jump in gas prices has cost consumers an extra $20 billion this year, or about $146 for each passenger car in the country."
and we're not even half way through the year?!?!?!
and the oil companies don't have enough money to build more refineries?
read more about it at

Since I have a hybrid and a full tank lasts me two weeks or so I have no idea what gas prices are.
I take the car :D
parking downtown is €1,50 /hour
its about 20 km back and fort and I use 8 liter per 100 km - so its about 2 litre of gas
total = (parkinghrs * 1,5) + (2 * €1,40) = €5,80
Masstransit to downtown frankfurt ONE WAY is €2,10 so back and forth €4,20
I am usually accompanied by my BF when we go downtown so it would be €8,40 for us two....
That's why I take the car :D
DEVELISH
ps. nighttime parkking fee is €3 from 7pm to 7am each day of the week

Kind of scary that so MUCH is owned by so few
So heres what I would like to know. If gas prices are going down nation wide, why is it still so high in California.
It is really outrageous here on the central coast. The lowest price for gas is 3.25 a Gallon and up!!
Gas prices are up .62 cents a gallon from a year ago.
