I have a brother like that, but I am sure it is not karma that is doing it to him (unless that is the server's name).
It is more like:
okay, I want to order the lingcod, but I want to substitute it with halibut and on my steamed veggies I want a white wine and dill sauce. Also, substitute this for that, that for this and these for those.

He is constantly modifying &/or susbtituting, which servers really love.

Did I just hear some spittle hit a plate?

Then again, some people are just assholes by nature and have to bitch and complain about EVERYTHING. My one friend had reasons for why he would not go to SEVERAL restaurants I would suggest. This time the waiter did this or that time the service was too slow or another time they put lettuce on a sandwhich when he asked for them not to. It got to the point where I almost couldn't suggest ANY place to eat, 'cuz he had a horror story for every one of them. I came to realize, "You're just a nasty person who has to bitch about everything."

By the way, we don't talk anymore. I got tired of the negativity. :)

My cousin was staying with me and anyone who's actually been around me the past week since he left will contest that I have been bitching to high hell about him ever since. Well, eating with him in public is the most embarrassing thing (and I don't embarrass easily, let me tell you). He has to have everything special and I mean, there was not a meal where he didn't ask for something special. I don't mind at a nice sit down restaurant if you want to have your meat well done, or substitute cole slaw for peas or some shit like that, but he was asking people at the fast food burger place to lightly toast his bun and cook the meat well done. Then he wanted to take me to a nice place so I took him to this beautiful place right on the beach for seafood, and he asked for his fish to be well done, and when it came it was well done but I guess he wanted it charred to the point of being a shingle, so he starts with this whole attitude, "I can't eat this... it's ice cold in the middle, look at this... take it back it's not cooked enough.". Oh, it was horrible. And everyone has to send something back once in a blue moon (although I've been known to eat something I didn't order just to avoid all my friends having to wait for them to cook me a whole other dinner), but there's no excuse to make a spectacle of yourself. And the waiter is just bringing the food, they don't cook it, so to go off on them is just rude. He was paying for me (since I let him stay with me for two whole weeks) but I made him tip the guy well since he was such a pain in the ass about the whole thing. Plus the waiter was so nice about it, he even brought us free cake at the end to make up for it, and I really didn't think it was his fault.

I used to hang out with this guy who was really nice, very generous and friendly. And he was always pulling out these free coupons or cashing in favors from management he knew at a lot of restaurants. As I got to know him it seemed that he had really bad luck wherever he went to eat because waiters and waitresses were always giving him attitude, messing up his orders, and giving him terrible service. Then he would talk about his "friends" who managed these places and how they would take care of everything. Then we ate out a few times. I noticed right away that he wouldn't even make eye contact with the waitress. No smile, no thank you's, it was like they were robots and he was just reporting his order. I mean, come on, these are real people. It takes nothing to give a little smile and say thank you when done. Than I found that his expectations of any restaurant were through the roof. If he didn't have a drink refilled within minutes of finishing it you would have thought someone had spit in it. If his food didn't come within a very short time of ordering, no matter how insanely busy they were, he'd get that look in his eye. And God forbid the waitress forgot something or the cook messed up his side dish. I soon came to realize that as nice as he was to me and my friends, he loved getting stuff by complaining. The sad thing is that I think he was raised like that and found it perfectly acceptable.

Needless to say, I don't really like eating out with him anymore.

See, thats why people love dining with me.. Im a blast when it comes to waiters and waitresses unless its in a high-end restaurant then i can be an ass if they (or the kitchen staff) screw something up.

I am kind and very generous to good staff. However, a server that is has cucumbers for brains or belongs behind the counter of the DMV will be treated as less than human by me.
