This isn't the official one that is planned. This just retrieves incomplete data from the individual online state databases, so you are better off just going to those.
I like the idea of these databases, but more work needs to be put into them. At first they were for child molesters, but these days they are adding people who aren't exactly an immanent threat to the community. I think only true sexual predators should be featured, and the evidence needs to be undeniable at that since this sort of thing can ruin someone's life. You need to be sure they deserve to be on it.

It would be nice to have more info. The word aggravated isn't there, so it was consensual. Now I'd like to know the actual age of the victim. Was she 13, or was he an 18yo with a 16yo girlfriend? Child predator, or dating the wrong persons daughter? Seems important for neighbors to know if this is to be effective.

My neighborhood is full of baby/child molesters and convicted rapists. There is even a woman that raped a 14 yr old boy that lives 2 blocks away. I live a block away from an elementary school and the sex offenders are clustered around it like vultures.

Guess I'm probably going to create some controversy here by saying, as much as I abhor child molesters I have a real problem with once they have served their time and they have "paid back their debt to society". ro have to register and have the information and photo posted on the web for all to see.
If I commit murder by killing a 14 year kid, and during the commission of the murder I have NO sexual contact with the vitim, then it is ONLY murder, not a sex crime. Let's say I'm convicted and sentenced to 20 years. Once the 20 years is up I'm a free man. I don't have to register anywhere. Somehow that doesn't seem right to me.
Another example. Let's say I'm horny tonight and I decide to go down to the local cruising area and get or give a blow job. Well, as luck would have the person I try to solicit is a cop and, of course, once I flop out my dick I'm immediately arrested for all sorts of charges, but all of them of course are considered a "sex crime". If I'm convicted, I then am going to have to register as a sex offender. Somehow, it just doesn't make sense that a blowjob.....a thwarted one at that, would mark me for life where murder, or assault, or battery or arson would not. Just doesn't make sense to me.
So, go ahead and fire back, but honestly, a crime should be punished, the criminal should pay their debt to society and then not have to be required to "register" and be marked the rest of their lives. In some way, that just doens't seem constitutionally correct.

You know what Bill, to some extent im in agreement with you, a few years ago in the UK one of the tabloid newspapers printed a list of 'sex offenders' across the country, unfortunately, one of the guys who ade thelist got killed a few days later, only for it to be discover that in fact he WASNT a sex offender, his family ended up suing The Sun for close to a Million pounds and i beleive they won too.
I do think a registry of sorts should be kept however, i dont think it should be allowed to be looked at by all and sundry because, you never know how that information is going to be used.

I certainly don't have a problem with the police departments keeping close tabs on people convicted of having any type of sex or abuse with a child.
But the one thing I guess we all need to keep in mind here on a board that caters to the adult industry is that a sex offender and a child pornographer are not necessarily the same thing. I do think that child abusers, child pornographers, child rapist, child molesters should somehow be treated differently, just not sure how it should be done.
Protecting individual rights is important. First we have the Sex Registry and no one compained. Then our government is allowed in keep prisoners indefinetly in Guantanamo Bay and virtually no one except the ACLU compained. Then we had the Patriot Act which allows our wonderful DoJ to look at your emails tonight, and mine, and if they want, come to our homes tomorrow while we are away and search them and never tell us that they did it. Just seems like our individual freedoms are being slowly eroded and no one is trying to stop it.

i saw one list - the big one - that showed a sex offender living on the same block with me. this map doesn't show him, but he's still registered there.
Part of living in society is being held accountable for your role in society. I was held up to public scrutiny for being Gay, a single father, and having a porn site and I have no problem with the national sex offenders map online.Quote:

BTW, go back and read my post, if you are convicted of murder, serve your time and are released, you are NOT tagged as a murder. You don't get placed on any list and you can move anywhere you want and not have to report your address.

I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, if you served your time and you're out trying to start a new life, it's gotta be tough for you to have everyone know your business, and that kind of prejudice can't be beneficial to trying to move beyond your past.
On the other hand, you don't want your kids getting invovled with the wrong people, you know?
But people can and do change. And ways of thinking can definitely be changed over time and through therapy. For me, I think of it in terms of psychology. For instance, for most of my life, I was attracted to older, gruffer, hairier guys. My therapist called it "father hunger." He felt that I pursued those guys as a way of getting the love from my dad that I never did as a child. But another trait--usually in the same guys--that I found attractive was then being emotionally unavailable--also like my father, incidentally. So here I was chasing after these older guys I wanted to love me but who were unwilling to open up and let me in.
After I was burned one too many times, though (and, more importantly, after discussing this topic ad nausem with my therapist), I started having less of an interest in these guys and started finding other types of guys attractive. Now I go for a much broader range of types and ages, and I truly feel that I have much more healthy outlook on my sexuality, and about other people. Plus I get laid a LOT more!
It's a different scenario, yes, but I use it to demonstrate that sexual tastes can be altered through therapy. And while the conviction should always stay on your record, there's no need to broadcast it to the entire community that you live in. I don't have a problem with people being notified that a child molestor lives in their neighborhood, as long as they don't single out who that person is.
People tend to forget that child molestation is often brought about by mental instability. It's not a crime for crime's sake. It's a sickness, a manifestation of something from their own childhoods that somehow got embedded into their psyches. And people can get better and try to start an honest life. And I agree with what the other guy said... if you do the crime, you pay the time. But after that, you should be able to move on with your life. And this is something I say as a person who has not only helped to raise four children (I was the only father figure in the lives of my three cousins, and my best friend's son), but who wants children of his own.
The world is never a black and white place. Issues such as these can never be solved with a hard and fast rule or response. There is always room for gray areas, and for human growth and error.
I also have mixed feelings, because I too believe in giving A second chance, also that those that offend ONCE should not be on 'the list'.
However, because I do not have faith in our (nor your) judicial system, I know that most offenders do not 'do their time', but rather a mere grain of sand of what they should be. (As I have stated many times before, our 'systems' allow those with money to buy absolution. Just ask O.J., M.J. and anyone else with pockets deep enough for a top-notch mouthpiece. (I thought law was about... law and not loopholes and muddied definitions.)
Sure, the first MAY have been a mistake, but what about the second, third, forth etc ?
Repeat sex offenders should not be on the loose, especially if the victim was a child -- whether they remain under psych. evaluation for the rest of their lives, in an institute (not a 'half-way house' because the doors are half open) for/with similar offenders, or simply in jail (kept away from the general pop.), matters not to me, I just do not want to read or hear how a repeater 'did it again' and 'how could this happen x-amount of times, again' (even though we know the answer is the bleeding hearts allowed it -- yah yah ... oh is Paco a rash person wah wah.)
Hell, slap a chastity belt on the person, make em wear a Martha addition ankle bracelet, monitor their actions and ensure they NEVER break their life term parole!
OUR loverly system allowed an elderly offender to move across the street from a elementary school, and guess what he offended, again and again and again under the defence by the 'system' that he was too old to do anything. Uh, how about salt peter and a room at Alberta Hospital (where Planters sends the rejects) so to allow others (higher up on the chain) to practice on him.
Repeat sex offenders are another story entirely. If you serve time for an offense and you get out and do it again, then I might be more inclined to give in and say, "Put'em on a list and broadcast it."Quote:
