Gay webmasters doing Straight sites

Hi guys. I always see people on the panels of conventions talking about Straight webmasters doing Gay sites, if it's possible, if it works, and all that. We all know Straight webmasters can do excellent Gay sites (even though there are a few who disagree with this) and we all know there are a few Straight webmasters who have made terrible Gay sites. However, how many Gay webmasters make Straight sites? I've never seen this subject really talked about.

We do :)

Actually, some of the straight niche sites we promote do as good and, sometimes better than the gay market sites :)

Ebony and Mature are hot in the straight niche right now we're finding ;)

I started out working in straight stuff and did so for several years. I thought it was great and there certainly is a larger audience to sell to. For me, it is simple -- it is all about selling.

I dont do anything in it anymore because I am simply too busy. And it has gotten to be even more competitive than ever. But I think they keys to success are the same in straight as they are in gay -- exclusive content, hot models, finding a niche that is not oversaturated, and giving the members what you tell them they are gonna get.

It's been getting a good deal of attention lately with Jake Cruise and his new str8-niche site. It's not "traditional" straight sex, as the focus is on the male and the women are often not fully naked. But it's a very interesting experiment for a gay webmaster to attempt. I think that Squirt has said that he's been doing something similar for a while, though Jake seems to have "cornered the market" simply out of the amount of press he's garnered for his new site. We are, in fact, running stories in the next issue of AVN Online.

We have straight guys, which is a gay niche and we have straight sites (teens, lesbians, mature, ebony, tranny) which are a straight niches... See what i mean about it being confusing? LOL

Hmmmm, OK, but does that mean that traditional hetero sex sites are not "straight sites" then? I've never heard this philosophy before. I'm intrigued.

Is this common thought among webmasters? I asked around here at AVN Online, and everyone seems to be scratching their heads over this. :)

We're taling about regular straight sex sites, for men who like women, hetero porn.

I dont think anyone has said those types of sites arent part of the straight niche.

Oh, OK, then we're on the same page. I did clarify, however, that the Jake Cruise site was not "traditionally" straight niche material. I know what you're saying, but I was just using him as an example of a gay webmaster who is experimenting with his craft. It might not be intended for straight men, but it is still straight sex, right? :)

I'm sorry to confuse the point with my tongue-in-cheek post. Lee was referring only to straight sites (sites intended for straight men looking for hetero/lesbian porn)

My comment was meant to be a jab at all of the straight webmasters that pop into GWW and want us to tell them everything we know so they can make sites in the "gay niche". It's my pet peeve! GAY IS NOT A NICHE! Lol. So, just to be an asshole, I like to call everything included in the straight market just a niche. It's my little way of getting even. ;)

I did a straight site with great content but signups sucked for some reason. The site is http://www.springbreakboobs.com. We even changed the design twice and still signups sucked.

I still have them but they have been removed from the IntenseCash program so we could concentrate on gay sites. The straight sites were just way too many niches to deal with. There is about 35 sites.

Ah, I was talking about straight sites featuring men and women. I still think having a "straight" guy on a site for gay men is still considered a gay site because that is the audience you are going for. But maybe that's just me, heh heh. :)

I KNOW it's "gay niche" content; I was just including it as an example of how gay webmasters are "branching out." I'm sure that there are probably straight guys who watch the Jake Cruise stuff and get off on that as well. It's probably coming in very, um, "handy" for bi-curious guys. :)

Branching out how?

I dont see how promoting an oversaturated niche can be considered 'branching out' its nothing new and to me, i give it a likeness to the twink niche, all and sundry promotes straight guys sites, to some extent these days.

So far as marketing it to bicurious guys, there are better ways to convert that traffic but, more about that in a couple of days time ;) ;)

Well I'm straight but I have some gay traffic for different gay ethnicities. I have not really found it to be that difficult, but then again I'm not targeting twinks or the like which I think would be a tougher sell.

I just found my way basically by reading GWW, reading gay sex stories for the niche which is where I get a lot of ideas for sales text and the actual thing that turns the surfers on, and by reading review sites to see who has what sites and how they are.

So I don't think there's any reason a gay webmaster couldn't do the opposite of what I did, and I have some friends who are doing just that. IMO it really boils down to whether you're willing to understand/research a niche that doesn't turn you on personally...and a lot of that is just not being uptight and being open-minded about it (at least from a straight perspective).
