Ive been to 2 industry gatherings and had a bad time at both. One in Montreal and one in Florida and I didnt get anything out of either of them.
I learned nothing, and walked around by myself and didnt meet that many people. So it was just wasted money for me.
If there were a reason to go, like I would learn a secret or something that would double my business, then Id definetely go.
But I dont have a product to sell, Im just an affiliate. So I dont see the need to network other than maybe getting some partner accounts or meeting people to trade traffic with.
Also it filled up in like 2 days so there was no chance to get a ticket, lol
While there IS business going on at these events I think that 90% of the people are there to P-A-R-T-Y! Just my experience...of course, there is NOTHING wrong with that!! :P

i have nothing against partying but "drinking my face off" and "putting out" sexually just to increase my profit margin by 23% just leaves me feeling "hoaridly-trashy!" , isn't there a more dignified way of doing adult buisness? :goof:
weather unfortunately was an issue here at home! , i would probably be looking at something more towards chicago i'm more familiar with the east coast ( i love snow! , trench coats! , change of season! )
sincerely ~ ..."smile away each rainy day"... - darling lili
While I probably could of swung it financially, I really would need Che along to help out, and everyone we know around here who could do pet sitting duty has moved away, and covering kennel boarding costs for our zoo was out of the question right now.
Hopefully we can get down to the Hollywood show again this year.
wow you put out and incresed your profits 23% !!! HUMMMMM you need to put me in touch with the person you were putin out for :)Quote:

although to answer the topic question, we didnt go because of the time and money it costs, especially to bring all the cbl boys, cause if they come the cameras have to come as well and that means a major event planning like at vegas.
Because they didn't send me. :(
They sent my co-worker, Monty McMahon and our publisher, Farley Cohen, instead. Hopefully, however, I will get to go to the Gay Forum in October.
By the way, Lee (MiamiBoyz Lee), there may be a lot of partying going on at these events, but honestly, is there ANY better form of networking than connecting with someone on a social level? Oftentimes, that is how you make the best relationships, b/cuz they are made on a more personal level than just a business one. When all is said and done, most people would rather do business with people they like and who they know they can have a good time with. So, the way I see it, partying is the best kind of business you can do. :)
I didnt go because I am in Hong Kong and it is just so far to go. Plus we just relaunched our affiliate program and so frickin busy right now just not time to spend 40 hours on a roundtrip flight. But I do plan on getting to the Gay Phoenix Forum I have heard is coming up in October.
I have not been to any of these events before but I am really looking forward to my first (the only virginity I have left hehehehe). I guess I can se the pros and cons on both sides of these things, party vs. doing business.
But I agree with Ken. It is a good way of forming relationships and making contacts, although I have a feeling the real business would take place after the event cause I do love to party too.
I didn't go because I'm located in the EU (mainly the Netherlands) and also quite busy so simply didn't have the time to fly over to the USA. However, I am going to the Adult Online Europe event in Berlin in April... looking forward to the networking opportunities... and those hot German guys :extat:
Best,
Jim
I have no money right now because I'm saving for a computer. I'd like to go to a show again but it sucks when my wally world salary is my only income. Ah well, maybe next year.
because i was in thailand filming our next video release, more exclusive models, and then took a weekend R & R trip to Vietnam where i met an absoultely stunning guy.... well.... for those who like asian men, you'll understand.
:)
What annoys me is that guys here use this Internet resource to say they only do business face to face at these sex and drug parties!
Gosh, put down the booze and answer your e-mail!
Wipe the lube off your hands and start typing, or dialing!
And the for Euro content providers: NO I"M NOT USING ICQ! You're on the opposite side of the Earth, and when I'm up, you're asleep... and vice versa! it is so incomprehensibly stupid to type me 10 ICQ messages when I'm asleep at 3:00AM: "Hello", "You there?", "Hello" !!!!! Get a MAP!
>but honestly, is there ANY better form of networking than connecting with >someone on a social level? Oftentimes, that is how you make the best >relationships, b/cuz they are made on a more personal level than just a >business one.
Social relationships are arbitrary and capricious... business relationships are about business: traffic, sales, statistics, monetary payments...
I'm not pleased to read here through you that AVN, which publishes the Industry Directory, and the monthly trade magazine, and the daily news e-mail, advocates a 'good ol' boys' slap-on-the-back clique when it comes to business networking in the adult entertainment market!
If, as you're saying, Distributors want to have personal sex with my actors/models in order to carry my DVDs, or be perked with drugs and liquor, then I'll be content to peddle my wares outside of that network.
In defence of the Phoenix Forum, I have definitely gotten more business done in the last 48 hours that I did at the last three shows. And contrary to popular belief, it's not a big drink and fuck your face off. Sure, that element exists. But it does at any show.
If you could only afford one show, I'd make it this one. I haven't gone to one seminar at this show. I don't have time. I'm too busy doing real business with people. I have so much work to do when I get home. I collapse into bed last night at 11:15 pm and skipped two parties because I just couldn't do it. You spend all day in the courtyard meeting people, you're baked by the end of the day.
The Florida Internext just didn't have enough gay people to make it worth my while. It was a waste of time. If you're in the straight side of business, it may be worthwhile.
Las Vegas Internext, another colossal waste of time. Too big, too much walking from the hotel to the show floor, and when you get there, there's nothing to see.
I looked at the Montreal show, but it's so soon after Phoenix and too close to Florida, and there didn't seem to be enough people going to warrant even the five hour drive down.
We'll be attending Webmaster Access in Toronto, but only because we can walk to the show, so the cost will be minimal to check it out.
Cheers,
Michael

The Phoenix Forum was excellent for me as well. It was a first class act from start to finish.
I've discovered a number of new opportunites and had some very productive meetings. And my entire business is completely in promoting affiliate programs. I do not produce content or run any kind of membership site. I actually think it would be interesting if more affiliates attended shows. Don't shortchange yourself.
I don't understand why some of you associate the parties with lube and sex. For me, I have to *go out of the event* for any of that. Just like with anything else, there is a time and place for everything.
Steve
The Forum was GREAT.
There is no subsititute for face to face meetings, the conferences are where we meet, develop and strengthen relationships. My business would not be where it is if I didn't show up and meet people. My first conference I left with 100 business cards--the next one people remembered me. My third was when people started calling on me for my business. Every event after that the people I work with told anyone I hadn't worked with how much they appreciated the quality of my work. I invested a lot of money into going to shows and it definitely paid off--showing up over and over keeps my name and face out there. If I relied on the Internet to promote my Internet practice I would starve. We may be in a virtual age but business expands with face to face human contact.
Really great for us (Tony&Cam) - picked up sales, on all levels, and gave us a good intro into the internet world where we will be investing time and $$$ to sell our movies on line - and all for the price of a hotel room and a little gas - and a nice drive at high speeds through the desert (we took the pooch along and she had fun too!)
Face to face interaction can't be beat!
Some events are better then others...Internext sucked this year but was really good a few years back. Phoenix keeps getting better and better and "the gays" were mixing more with the str8 crowd. We even had some real girls appear at the gay gathering.
But the parties are only a part.
Mix a bit of cocktails and about 2am you can talk to anyone.
Even my mild mannered outside becomes a bit looser. I was once told "never trust someone that doesn't drink" comes to mind at these events. But then again, I've had a lot of good converstations over coffee ... the results are relationships.
Everyone brings with them their own goals and eveyone leaves with their own results. We had a blast talking about how to use Microsoft Encoder and our DRM Packager....we even had a chance to talk to a lot of straight companies that sell non-gay videos. Oh my!
But it's getting a chance to see people from this board and to meet new poeple. My first few year was rough..but after a few forums I began to see "old friends" and we caught up what was happening, shared fears, frustrations, and also worked on how to exchange traffic.
I saw some people only during the 2am after hours parties and they did not attened any sessions or any mixers...they came only for the parties. I guess if you want to spend $250 a night (room) for a 5 hour party that is okay. I perhaps they created new friends and business partners.
I suggest that everyone tries to be a part of this industry and to form the relationships. What better way then face to face where you can see 10, 20, or more contacts at one place?
For those that I saw in Phoenix (tempe) it was great to see you again.
And for those that I didn't I hope to see you at:
Gay Phoenix Forum - Phoenix
CyberExpo - San Diego
LA Gay Expo - Los Angles
And who knows where else...
