here are two models who look bigger in vertical pics that had to be cropped too closely to show their heads but look good but smaller with the vertical pics that show their heads. which of the pics do you prefer on each page?

That's a tough one. I like the pics that show their heads best. But with the muscle niche, I'm not sure how important their heads are. Lol.
well, without heads i don't think they'd be able to model ;)

Yeah, it is a tough one. I got through this all the time with photographers who don't shoot any horizontals. If you're only going to have one pic on the page, I'd make sure it's good a head. :)

gotta show the head - even if cropping off the top
(this, as I learned in the ad business, will give the model more impact and creates less of a "float" for the figure)
I think the non-head shots really show off the body - and with a head shot used in the smaller pic spots, I don't think you have to have the head for the bigger torso image.
the non-head shot is strange, it looks like one of those manikins in store windows without a head, very fake looking to me.
I have no clue when it comes to muscle men... LOL ... BUT, after looking at them I definately like the ones that have thier heads included in the pics. Like others have stated though, I have no clue if that's good or bad in the niche. Just my personal preference.

:offtopic: Tattoos switching from one arm to the other bother me as well. Makes me think that the photographer is grasping at making a bad pose look good. $0.02
I'd say use the one with the head. It gives the model an identity as opposed to just a body. With it being a muscle site, though, I like the muscles in the pic without the head, but the tats kinda take away from it (in my opinion). I'm still gonna stick with the shot with the face.

As others have said, I don't know shit about the muscle fetish, but to me, it's very disturbing to see a body abruptly cut off at the neck. Having the head cut off some is a bit annoying, but it's a lot less disturbing having a torso with no head.
The other thing is... don't know if the muscle niche works the same, but I would think that the head and the eyes in particular would give the prospective member something to relate to/connect with about the model, which wuold help him/her feel more drawn to the site. Just conjecture, but that's definitely how it would be for me.
I would also vote to keep the head in the pictures. Headless models don't seem to be a good idea imo. I hope that helps. :)

Hey bass, are you using these pics to promote the site, or just include in standard photo sets?
If it's promote, then you definitely NEED the head. If you are asking whether to nix the headless shots from a set of 50-60 photos that already have plenty of head and face, I say definitely keep them. It's like zooming in for detail on the chest and biceps.
One thing though, Joey's shot looks MUCH better because the image stops at his shoulders and looks like a good zoom shot. Craig's looks creepy because you see his neck and adam's apple and then **slice** no head. That one makes it look like he wanted the head gone for privacy reasons (common in amateur pics).
