Hi all,
Just wondering if you could recommend a good straight adult board. I wouldn't mind expanding my horizons a bit. I'm looking for a good board with minimal bullshit, and one that's going to be fairly open to gay people. And I'd prefer a board that was more business oriented than "here's a picture of my cat lying beside my dildo."

Without reservation, Y-Not is my pick for the most balanced, spam-free and welcoming board in the industry. I landed on Ynot the 1st day of my research into adult on-line game legalities and it only took a few hours to know I found the right spot to learn.
I count that first contact as the reason our company is in adult today, and has a growing reputation as an honest and business worth partnering with.
One other board that strives to take the high road is www.cozyfrog.com

great guys there - crak, who was one of the founders, has posted here. the catch is that most of the guys there are traffic traders and tgp/mgp owners and there are not a lot of paysite owners. still there are some folks with a huge knowledge base who i've known for years.
while i'd like to say www.adultwebmasterinfo.com , which was my first home board, it's not as busy as it used to be. some days it jams but others it only does maybe 10 posts. folks there are nice and know their stuff, but i admit that recently there have been an influx of newbs.
i would say askdamagex.com too..... its for sure more serious than other boards around.... and im sure most guys there are open minded. : )

Uh, surprisingly enough, I rarely post at "straight" or mainstream boards.
There was one Russian webmaster board I posted on, frequently (LC webmaster ran it), but (as with all the other "breeder" boards ;) )the lack of consideration for others pushes me away!
I'll go with YNOT: I hear many there are serious webmasters, however it is not as popular as those with three-letters.
justblowme.com is a good business oriented board. Not too much drama and bullshit.
Quite gay friendly too.

I beg to differ. When I was working at one of my previous industry jobs I got read out by people there. They were really nasty to me and didn't give me a chance to defend myself. Once they made up their mind about me they didn't even give me a chance.Quote:

I didn't even think of that. It makes alot of sense. I used to post on AVSfriendly which is now WebmasterFriendly but other than that I guess I just lump them all into the GFY kind of forum.
What partially got me thinking about it was I went looking for blog directories to get my blog listed, and a lot of them are owned by straight webmasters. And while those sites may not offer me tons of traffic, I never know until I see what is out there.
I think checking out some straight boards is also good to see what other people are doing and how it might be applied to my business model.
And finally, when I asked here about "pegging" sponsors, that is guys getting boned by girls with strap-ons, I got a few of replies. When I asked on a straight board, I got over ten. And shit, I found out it's actually called "pegging." Who knew?

You know what's funny. I'll post at GFY on rare occasions, if I have something to add, but that's it. But on other boards, I try to keep in mind that the reason a lot of people make homophobic remarks is simply because they don't know any gay people. And more often then not they don't even think about the fact that what they are saying can actually affect real people. And getting defensive doesn't help. Think about it, someone who is used to making fun of a group finally gets talk to someone from that group and all they do is make a big scene for having been made fun of, it just sends the point home that there is nothing in common there and now there is even more reason to make nasty comments. However, if you take a little time to just let them know that you are a real person and that their words really hurt, it may make them think twice. I usually try to do this with humor. Laughter is a great means of communication.
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that empathy towards another person is a much better way towards communication than just reacting to a single statement.
On the other hand, sometimes it's a lost cause. There are a lot of people on GFY who only look at us as something to be laughed at and mocked, and I feel no need to play their game. When I do post there it's for the people to whom I can actually communicate with. The rest can pretty much take a hint from the boards title.

I've told this story before but it's worth repeating. Years ago I was living in Pittsburgh with this straight guy. His family was coming to visit and he had to sit me down and prepare me for this visit. And when it was time for the family to go back to New York everyone was astonished to see him give me a hug.
My point being is that we got to a good place with each other. I have straight friends who can call me "fag" and whom I can call "breeder" and we both know it's all in fun. But we found that place first. I think it's all in being able to respect each other and knowing when boundaries can be crossed and when they should not even be approached. I genuinely like people, all kinds. So when I get a chance to converse with someone who's totally not like me (and lets face it, there are very few people who are just like me) I'm excited because once you can actually communicate with someone you can learn a lot from them and you can teach them a thing or two as well.

Thanks Don, glad you like it. Been thinking about what people were talking about here and honestly, I don't see my board as "straight" necessarily. If there's anything it's closest to, it may be more TGP/MGP- and biz-oriented than any other, but that aside I have no problem with anything related to adult business being discussed there. In fact, I wish there were more variation there, but unfortunately no one single person has experience with everything in this industry.Quote:

DamageX, I'm sure no offense was meant by referring to your board as a "straight" board". It may be crude for someone in the gay side of the industry to label another message board as "straight". Most of them have a good mix of both straight and gay people who post there, but the concentration of webmasters who deal in straight websites and programs is higher on those boards. For instance, if someone posted on GWW that they were looking for content and all that was said was "looking for content", then I could pretty much guess that they were looking for gay content. If I go to a board like X Nations or Rated Hot and someone just puts "looking for content" I can pretty much guess that they are looking for straight content. It's not right or wrong, it's just the nature of things.
We have a lot of wonderful straight people who post on this board and their input is extremely valuable, the same way that I feel welcome on most other boards.
Haha, it's OK, I never took it as an offense. I guess the percentage of gay and straight people working in adult would be the same as the percentage of people with these sexual preferences in any other line of work. I still find that people in this industry are, overall, more tolerant towards others' preferences than in the "real world", in lack of a better word. Then again, the huge lack of bible thumpers may be part of the reason. :DQuote:

Netpond is my "home" forum for adult webmastering. The community as a whole is liberal and tolerant towards everyone, women, gays (male and female) and trannies, and has a nice mix of webmasters to work with. It has great info, and a very active blogging forum btw.
Tigermom, Netpond is my home board too. I love that board and I love that they are very high volume because when I feel like procrastinating I want it to take awhile. :juggle:
Someone upthread questioned why some folks bother with the straight boards if you mostly promote gay porn and I know, for me, part of the reason is that the straight boards all tend to have very high post volumes and I like to read... a lot!
