Do you have any stats on what percentage of surfers are capable of viewing 'actual' HD quality movies at the moment?

I must say im a big fan of HD movies, but the ability to view them in actual HD on the net right now is nearly impossible i thought, especially given download speeds etc.

i had no problem viewing the sample vids, and i have no special plugin or feature. the only issues i've ever heard of regarding HD is download time.

If they stream them that wont be so much of an issue. Im going to give it a go, see how well it converts. Surfers will soon tell us by either buying or not.

Sorry but we do not have stats on anything yet. They have been out for I think two hours now. I don't think that anyone will have issues streaming the videos. Most people are on cable or DSL now days anyways and would love to see better quality videos. :bananacock:

I think you are confusing something here. Just about any monitor sold these days has enough resolution to view HiDef. HD is merely a term to define pixel resolution of 1280x720 or greater. And as for download speeds, that is dependant on at what kbps the videos are encoded with. In theory, you could have a 1280x720 video encoded at 1000kbps that would play just fine on just about and DSL/cable connection. I may be wrong. ;)

I was looking for stats on American high speed internet usage. I dont know how much weight to put on this but ive found 39% of urban dwellers have access to high speed internet.

Actually, no LOL

HiDef is a mixture of resolution, playback quality and video signals / encoding, specifically, when talking about HD 'online' the movies should be encoded in a WMV format(i think lol), that as of yet, a lot of surfers still dont have the plugin enabled because they dont understand they actually need it to view true HD quality movies 'online'.

In addition, for true 'Hi Definition' content, the content needs to be shot using a precise mix of lighting, HD camera equipment, audio quality, and editing quality amongst other things.

In effect, if the surfer doesnt have a WMV-HD player installed, all they are viewing is a 1280x720 resolution movie, which would look no different than a high quality mpg encoded at the same size ;)

Lets not forget, HD was originally intended for use on TV's only and i havent been able to find a single computer monitor that is capable of 'HD Quality' playback so far as the progressive scanning goes either.

IMHO, not to degrade any of the work that SilverCash have done on these sites (which i really like the look of btw) but HD as of yet really is just a marketing point and the average porn surfer isnt going to know the difference between a high quality mpg and a HD movie, other than the download speeds LOL

Thats pretty much all it is.

It isnt true HD because the capabilities of running true HD content online, unless you are a surfer that owns a massive mediaserver with a huge bandwidth pipe.

HD is all marketing right now when it comes to online sites, the one good thing about getting 'HD' content shot though is that you can quite easily encode it in multiple formats AND use it for DVDs at the same time ;)

I think that information is out of date. 83% of users to our website justusboys.com are DSL/Cable or higher. I'm sure if we could isolate urban specifically it would be even higher.

Hmmm. I thought that I could see HD on my monitor. I don't have any special player installed other than quicktime, but the video I see marked with the HD icon here: http://www.apple.com/trailers/ and here: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/guide/hd/ looks as good as the 1080i on my HDTV plasma on the wall.

If they aren't HDTV then it's not visible to the naked eye.

Am I getting bluffed by Apple?

Im not sure who they are so tbh i cant know whether to put any weight on them as a source. Im guessing that movie sites would appeal more to high speed users anyway so that could account for some of your figures too.

If you have a G5 system and the .256 codec then you'll be able to view HD quality, if you dont have those, you are (in effect) just viewing a regular high-quality movie.

well, check it out - if you are watching an HD video and you enlarge it to full screen, it will be better quality due to the bitrate although shorter due to the widescreen.

if i can't see them exactly as they should be seen, the HD videos i saw on the mayors money sites are better than anything i've ever seen on the web or possibly on my computer - the member area ultra high HD vids stream at 8000k and look perfect at full screen - so i'm happy to see HD coming to the gay market!
