Anyone ever hear of an "adult modeling agency" called Red Temple Entertainment?

We're talking to some model who apparently thinks he's the shit. He claims to be represented by an "agency" for adult models called "Red Temple Entertainment" and the "agent" is Ashton Williams.

This "agent" is supposedly getting his client only the best gigs, but he's steering him to a couple of very small and no-name producers (and one that is pretty well known.)

He also claimed that he "didn't know" that one of the gigs he was putting his client into were bareback scenes until after they were filmed... which to me means that if he *is* an agent, he's completely incompetent, as that sort of stuff should be covered in the agreement at the outset, and certainly discussed up front.

I think the "agent" is a total poseur. Just curious if anyone else has ever heard of the guy or the agency.

I haven't heard of him. Do you know where's from? There's a few scammers out here in the midwest, the biggest being one from Cleveland. The Cleveland daily newspaper is preparing a story on him; they actually called me for an interview (thinking I was in Ohio).

I think he's in TX or, if not, somewhere in the midwest.

He has a Myspace group and on it he has Corbin Fisher and Helix and a couple of other Myspace studio pages listed as "friends" so I suspect what's going on is he just gets boys with a great story and then submits online apps to various studios and tries to collect a commission.

Never heard of him myself.

The profile says he's a 25/m in Austin TX, going by the name Ashton Williams and apparently has recruited some models for Helix (according to his blog). Also, he credits the logo design to model Ashton Ryan, and it is similar to the logo he's using on his own line, Vain Boys.

Ashton's formerly with Rocky/EON, so maybe Rocky will add something to this thread when he spots it.

He is a nobody in Las Vegas, not Austin. He messaged me on MySpace when he saw I was looking for hotel room. He said he would have offered me his house, but is was full from friends coming form out of town for that weekend.

He offered his services to me, but neglected to provide me with any head shots or contact sheets when I asked for them.
. They are not even incorporated. The company is legally non-existent.

If this guy at Red Temple wants to be taken seriously, he needs to follow through when offering models and deal with companies who actually have a product to put out. The fact that Keith over at Helix used his models, quite frankly, astounds me.

I do know that, up until several months ago, he lived here in Austin. He worked as a barback where my roommate tended bar. In fact, Ashton visited my apartment once... my roomie has co-workers over often to hang out. And somehow... somehow... in the process of Ashton's visit he broke my new leather computer desk chair.... I still can't figure out what the hell he did. But he was sitting in my chair secretly breaking it while babbling to me about all these twink models and studios he knows.

Oh, I had to pick him up at his apartment, as he doesn't have a car. Maybe he left it in Nevada.

He's a real piece of work. I have a whole bunch of "Ashton stories" ranging from humorous to peculiar. He's a big name dropper, and would try to impress me .... me of all people, you know I'm such a "kingpin"... bragging about who he knows in the business, etc. And some of those individuals he would mention I happen to know very casually from the webmaster shows, and even that was enough for me to realize that his presentation of reality doesn't add up.

In fact, I'll bet I know the "exclusive model" Chip is talking to as well, assuming that individual lives in West Texas... Helix has filmed around the state on a few occasions. I can't imagine Keith would recommend his services if you asked him.

It literally keeps me awake at night thinking about people running around the internet, misrepresenting themselves as an agent or even employee of my company, and saying all kinds of untrue things to aspiring models.

I'd rather stick with one or two scouts I know and trust than accept referrals from an army of scouts that I know nothing about.

Brian is about one of the most drama-free and ego-free people I've run into in this business, he has no reason to go there.

BTW, isn't it funny that people think they "know" Corbin Fisher when there IS no Corbin Fisher. (Well, I suppose that one of the owners could claim the name, but it's more of a brand name than something associated with one person, from what I understand.)


And to Brian's point... yes, it is a little scary what "scouts" will say... we had one (who wasn't even working for us anymore at that point) telling some prospective model he could not only get them modeling with us, but get them a job, and magazine covers, etc... I wouldn't have believed it because the scout had at one time been reliable, but it was overheard by another person who I knew to be reliable, and the "model" so scouted also confirmed the account.

I think that it's a "brush with greatness" thing... the scouts want desperately to be accepted and thought of as Someone Important so by claiming to know so-and-so at such-and-so studio, they can impress their friends, be popular at parties... and probably get laid along the way.

Yupyup to a certain extent I can understand a scout wanting to tell someone good things to keep the model interested, but they should not promise anything they can't deliver, and they should qualify their statements and not make any promises they can't keep.

Just like, in the eyes of surfers, there is often no distinction between an affiliate and a sponsor website (they don't know enough about the sponsor/affiliate system to realize that there are actually different companies there), a model might not be aware a particular scout isn't an actual employee or even representative of the company they're scouting for. And the model can't even be blamed for failing to make that distinction because the scout very well might as well be an employee of whomever they're scouting for. They do represent you in a sense.

I know that with our core scouts I know and trust well, I can be assured they'll never make any unrealistic promises and always be upfront to the prospective models. It's better for us when a model shows up well-informed and accurately informed. It plays a huge part in their not only shooting a scene or two with us, but working with us for months on end, over the long term.

Scouts play an important part on many of the biggest, most popular, sites. I think puting down all of them and giving them this strange stereotype is short sighted. There are always some bad apples in every industry but they don't represent the industry, or industry sector, as a whole.

I've never used a scout, but the scouts I have known, and that others have used, have done a great job bringing hot guys to the industry, and for them it's a money making venture for their commission, not a brush with greatness ego feed.

Yes, I will agree most scouts will lie,cheat and steal to get what they want, and YES I will agree that most scouts will also be in it for thier OWN gain, and not caring about the talent. But we can all agree, The studios and the site's need the talent and some of the talent needs to be babysat by the recruiter/scout/agent. Some of us out here are respectable and have a good, strong reputation. I have never heard of that "other" company, so I wont put him down, But any respectable agent or scout should know NEVER to make a promise ...never tell talent I will get this, or I can get that, the flavor of the day changes all the time and nobody can guarantee ANYTHING. I have been doing this about 4 years, and yes, while there have been failures, most of the people that know me will attest that if talent isnt right for a project, I will tell them in advance.... But again, it is all about communication. I am not here to 100% tout my own horn, but there are a few honest and hard working guys out there.....Sometimes we need to be "Cultivated" by you guys as to what you need, and then we can go find it.

Howard and Fabscout are one of the good guys. I was extremely impressed when I spoke to you in Florida at the Internext show awhile back and saw how much you cared about the models, their well-being and what was best for them, along with what was best for the studios - including matching up the right guys with the right studios, as opposed to simply sending out as many guys to as many different places in the hopes of landing the most possible referral fee checks right away.

Howard, I too have heard really good things about FabScout. One of the things I'm curious about is whether models who work with you are obligated for everything to go through you, or whether if a model has contacted someone before they went with you or someone approaches them directly, if the deal is obligated to go through you.

I can see advantages and disadvantages to both, but it seems that in the commercial modeling world, most models aren't exclusive to the agencies that represent them, and some are even represented by more than one. Just curious what you've seen (or what you do) in your experience.

I have no "EXCLUSIVE" deals with any of "my" guys. Most of the guys that are with me, are here because they want to be. I am all about getting a fair deal for my guys, but it is also about being fair to the studio as well. The fee's are OK and it is nice to get paid (Duh) But if an agent gets a model a bad deal, the the trickle down effect is bad. #1 ,I wont get work from that studio and, #2 the model wont do things with my company any more. My guys can be contacted directly or through me. Doesnt matter, I am just concerned with getting them work, work that is honest and at a fair price. The majority of my guys, when contacted outside of me, will tell the studio to call me anyway, it makes life much easier all around for them and you. It is the same with several other "agencies" I also take the brunt of issues when something goes wrong (on both sides)....as I said before..alot of babysitting, and mopst of you guys know me....mama has big shoulders for the kids to cry on. When you get to know your models, and see what they are good at and what they are bad at, you can save the studio alot of time by advising, ""Yes"" to this one, or ""No"" thats a bad choice....Again, all about working together.......Anything else?..? Before someone hits it, Yes there are fee's involved, But thats between the model and myself. Nothing that is unfair, but I am still running a business.

Aside from being someone reputable to deal with, Howard is a helluva nice guy. I had the pleasure of finally meeting him face to face at the Gay Phoenix Forum. He is smart, funny and plays well with others.

Earlier in this thread I referenced the idea of starting an unbiased website with information on adult (and commercial) modeling, what to expect, etc. We're actually doing that, it's going to be up probably in a week or so, and as the information gets written, I'll post here for comments/criticisms/suggestions.

I'm already formulating a list of topics, questions, etc but if anyone has any suggestions as far as topics, FAQ questions, etc., I'd love to have them.

The site won't have any advertising at the outset, the idea is just information without people thinking they're being suckered into a particular service, site, studio or whatever. Perhaps later on there will be links to places where one can apply to model.

Maybe write a "Code of Conduct" and allow links to employers who adhere to that code.

Treat models with dignity and respect. They are your lifeblood.

Do not have sex with models. Even if they want to. The power differences involved make it impossible to have completely non-coercive sex

Explain the risks involved. If barebacking is involved, explain those risks.

Explain that the model ALWAYS has the right to terminate a session [but does not have the right to be paid if sessions are not completed]

Explain that the model has the right to know what the scene or modeling job involves, and that only if the model voluntarily enters into the agreement will the model get the job

Explain that the images will be out there forever. Once the model has completed the job, the images belong to the producer and there is no taking them back.

Explain that the model must be sober and free of mind-altering substances in order to perform and be paid.

How about that for a start?

I think the code of conduct is a great idea. Of course, getting studios to agree on what it should contain is something different entirely. But perhaps we'll toss out some ideas (starting with Chad's list) and seek some input and *try* to come up with some agreeement on the ones we can and punt on the ones there's disagreement on.

I have a correction to make: Red Temple was not the guy in Vegas trying to send models my way with no head-shots. The name of the company that DID was similar in name, logo design and motive so I easily confused the two.

I'd like to take this oppurtunity to clear up a few misconceptions about myself and what I do in regards to the adult industry.

First I would like to thank Howard from FabScout.com, Steve from Citiboyz.com, and Rocky at EON films for their unbiased comments on this whole issue, and Rocky for his correction in regards to confusing myself with another individual. I have much respect for Rocky now.

This whole issued began when the said model that Chip was trying to recruit "requested" that he and Mr. Braden contact his agent. Note that the key word there is "requested". Yes, the said model and I have an Agreement of Service contract, but it in no way, shape or form makes that model exclusive to me. It does however state that the model is free to work with whatever companies he chooses, but if he requests a company to contact his agent, then it is only fair, just, and courteous that a company honor said request.

Another part of this is what I've come to refer to as West Hollywood Drama, and not to make light of the situation, but if I wanted to be immersed in drama, I'll relocate back to Dallas.

Now just to clarify any other misconceptions:

I do not make empty promises to either the models I represent or the directors and producers to whom I refer potential models to. Everything that I discuss with a producer or director is in turn discussed with a model. Fees are discussed between the producer or direct and the model, I have control over what is offered so how could I possibly promise insane amounts of money. Nor I do promise fringe benefits such as salon and spa, or shopping trips. The only thing that is "promised" is a confirmed date of filming and a confirmed travel itinerary once all parties are in agreement.

Touching on the bareback issue. First of all, I offer two forms of service, referal and representation. Now whether I refer or represent a model, I keep them fully informed to the risks of working in the adult industry, and also advise them for their own safety to be regularly tested for STDs. However, I cannot travel all over the country and physically take a model to be tested. I can only advise them. Yet if they do make the decision to film bareback, then it is a conscious decision made between two consenting adult performs who are well aware of the risks involved. The models whom I represent however do not film bareback. Now since I also offer the choice of referal or representation, if a model chooses referal then requests representation, there isn't much that can been done to change the past concerning their decision to perform bareback.

Now seeing as Keith Miller at Helix Studios is some whom I have developed a friendship with over the courseof our working together and some questions were raised as to Keith's decisions to work with me. I have provided models to Keith for several Helix Studios production and have occasionally been invited to shoots to act as a liasion and as a production assistant. If my work ethics were questionable, I have serious doubts that Keith would have continued working with over over the past year.

I'm not trying to change anyone's perceptions about myself or Red Temple Entertainment, but merely offering facts instead of speculation.

Interesting how the information in Red Temple's post is 180 degrees different from what Ashton told AJ in private email. I don't have the email on this computer but I'll get it from AJ and quote from it.

I suspect what's going on here is some backpedaling and revisionist history in order to save face, which is fine... I don't have the slightest problem with someone saying "I'm new to the industry and this is what I'm trying to do", but that wasn't at all the impression that we were given.

The statement by the model was not a "request", it was along the lines of "I'm exclusive to Red Temple, you have to talk to them" at which point AJ said "We're not interested in doing that..." a conversation ensued, and AJ left it with "Well, we have a bazillion other models, so if we can't work with you directly, then sorry, but we're not interested" and that was pretty much the end of it from our perspective.

Then, with no contact from us, we received an email from Ashton (apparently the model had contacted him) in which he told AJ in no uncertain terms that he had a written, exclusive agreement with said model and that ALL interactions/negotiations/etc HAD to go through him, even though said model had originally contacted us before he was with Ashton. He was very, very clear that there was no other option, though he "generously" agreed to forego his commission on this transaction.

AJ raised the issue with Ashton that we weren't particularly interested in working with a model that had shot a bazillion bareback scenes, and Ashton responded that he had *no idea* that the shoots in for said model would be bareback. If true, then he simply hasn't done his homework because anyone who has been in the industry for more than 5 minutes knows that Helix shoots bareback, so the question should have at least been raised during discussions and negotiations, even if it was simply a referral and not a representation situation.

Additionally, said model told us he was planning to shoot additional bareback scenes for another studio which, if Red Temple does not allow its models to shoot bareback, kinda shoots the "exclusive representation" thing in the foot.

I'm not trying to start West Hollywood drama (or any other kind of drama) here. Howard has demonstrated and described how a professional agency relationship is supposed to work and what terms customary to the industry look like. If Red Temple some day comes up to that standard, we would consider working with Ashton. We just don't have time for people who are inserting themselves into the loop unnecessarily and creating complications that don't need to exist. Having worked with over 150 models in the past several years, we've developed a means of working with them that treats the model ethically and fairly, gives us a reasonable deal, and our models go away very happy. We've had models with "agents" before, and what we've done is work the deal with the model, who then runs it past the agent, and that's fine, and a lot simpler for everyone.

Bottom line is, if people are ethical and approach things with a "let's find a solution" mentality instead of a "You have to do it my way or else" approach, they win a lot more friends in the industry.

I appreciate your position, and I completely agree about finding a solution so that everyone walks away happy.

But again to add even more clarification, the model only performed in one bareback scene. Not a "bazillion".

But regardless, if there was a misinterpretation in the context on the messages exchanged, let me be the first to offer my apologies, I know that everyone interprets things differently.

The statement above is about as clear as mud, but if I read it right, what you've indicated is not what AJ or I said, and we've both spoken to him.

The model did clearly tell us to contact his agent, and we equally clearly told him we weren't interested. Our interest also waned considerably when the model told AJ that he had done multiple bareback scenes in the past (I'd inferred he'd done only a single scene), and that he was planning to do a bunch of bareback scenes for yet another studio in the near future, and so that combination of factors was pretty much the end of the conversation, and our interest in the model, until we got your email.

We strongly prefer not to work with models who have barebacked extensively because we aren't interested in supporting models who choose to portray that message on video. (Not to mention putting our other models at risk, in spite of our testing and condom use.) Not to say we've never done it, only that as we're lucky enough to be in the position of having considerably more models that want to work with us than we can actually use, we can now choose more carefully and work with models that are more likely to convey the healthy image and corporate philosophy we're cultivating.

I'm not sure what the model implied to you, but no promises, expressed or impled, were made. AJ did discourage the model from doing further bareback scenes for his own safety, and suggested that he carefully consider his career choices, because it's easy to get overexposed if you have 5 studios marketing you simultaneously, vs one or two, or doing a series of scenes for a bunch of studios over a longer period. He probably also told the model we would be less interested in working with him if he did a bunch of bareback stuff.

Both AJ and I did point out that for a model seeking high visibliity, working with an established studio with a marketing machine in place is usually better than working with a studio that has few or no titles or no website.

That phrase is very poorly worded so I have no idea what you're actually trying to say, but reading it at face value, I interpret it to mean that the model can ask you to review a contract if he wants to, but is not obligated to do so.

Fine. We encourage models to have a professional review our agreements (which are written in plain English, not legalese) to make sure we're not pulling any funny business. We just have little to no interest in talking to the agency in question.

As I said, I'll repost when I get the emails from AJ (who is out of town). The clear inference that both AJ and I took was if we wanted this model, we *had* to work through you, and I'm near certain that the word "exclusive" was used. If that turns out not to be the case, I will be the first to admit it and offer an apology.

But I do think it's good for all concerned that the opportunity was created to bring these issues up... and the good thing that's come out of it is the idea of a website for unbiased model information, which I think will benefit not only the models, but also the legitmate webmasters, studios, and agents... and perhaps cause some of the shadier ones to either change their ways or have a more difficult time pulling one over on a model.

I'm not looking to interfere, and I did not contract an deal with you so therefore I would not recieve a fee from _____. I'm simply making sure it benefits him.

Second, the bareback scene he performed in were not my decision, I was completely unaware that he performed bareback until AFTER the filming was complete. Since then he has not and will not perform in any bareback films period.

But regardless, he is under contract, and the stipulations stated in that contract are that all offers and oppurtunities are to be reviewed by me, it doesn't have to be brokered through me,but you would have to keep in the loop directly. If that doesn't work, then my apologies.

I hope _____ and one of my companies can work with him in the future since we can do a lot for him. For the record, he did not request that I talk to you, and he applied to model for us over a year ago, with no mention of an "agent".

_____ is under contract with Red Temple Entertainment, so any and all oppurtunities have no choice but to go through me for review and consideration, it's a non-negotiable clause stated in the contract.

Thanks for posting that, though common courtesy and professionalism dictates that one does not post whole emails received from another without first contacting them and receiving permission. No one acting professionally in the business would do that, and it's pretty concerning that you as someone claiming to be an agent would post potentially confidential/proprietary exchanges without checking in advance.

I stand corrected, and I apologize for the misstatement that the emails included the word "exclusive." That was my inference based on your phrase

Certainly sounds like a claim of exclusivity to me.

Also, it's not that we aren't interested in working with said model... it's that we aren't interested in working with him *IF* he's going to do a bunch more bareback scenes.

And seeing as you stated to lucky enough to be in the position of having considerably more models to work with, I can't possibly see any reason for one model to be of such concern.

The model has expressed to me that he does not care to work with any of the companies you represent, his decision, not mine. If he changes his mind at a later date, then that is also his decision.

So really I see no need to continue debating this matter.
