Are You Concerned When Straight PPS Sponsors Launch Niche Specific Gay Sites?

Was just curious whether the fact that a lot of PPS sponsors these days seem to be launching more niche specific gay sites was of any concern to you in the long-term?

I have to admit there is a part of me that really doesnt mind, but there is a bigger part that actually does.

It just seems to me like a lot of the crappy, load 'em up with console, let 'em join for $1 type of PPS sponsors these days are trying to do what they did in the straight market place which i think in the next 2+ years is going to start detracting from the revenues we generate.

Does anyone else start hearing alarm bells when the straight PPS sponsors who really dont seem to give a damn about the surfer start launching niche specific sites?

i know for me doing creampie it sucked this year when all the know nothing about the niche PPS spopnsors started doing too many creampie sites, and most sucked...i was happy at first in away too, as i was known for creampie and it seemed we got more exposure, but the 29 a month ccbill sites which know that they are doing seem to suffer and it burns up the market...

Lee, I agree. However, I think that as we know gay web surfers are a little more sophisticated when it comes to what strikes their fancy online. The same tired come-ons and recycled content won't work anymore.

The sites that are gay owned and operated generally look better and I'm guessing convert better. Plus the money made gets recirculated back into the gay community. Many gay sponsors advertise in gay publications, sponsor gay events and parties and give back. That's a good thing.

We have all seen the websites with gay.(insert generic porn website name here).com with lots of pictures of women on the gay side. Ugh, please make them stop. I hope that crappy sites lead to crappy conversions. People are tired of crap and are looking for quality.

These straight sponsors haven't a clue sometimes when it comes to understanding what makes gay men (and lesbians) hot and bothered. I saw it years ago before I exited the biz and I'm sorry to see it still around.
Maybe it's time for a "Buy Gay Owned Porn Campaign" of some sort..

True but, for a lot of these sponsors, they arent using the same tricks to get the surfer to join their sites, they are changing them.

As a PPS sponsor though, a lot of these types of site really dont care about offering up something of 'quality' to the surfer, the owners just want their money.

Basically, with all these predominantly straight sponsors starting to go the micr-niche route, is anyone concerned that we're going to see the same happen on the gay side of the industry that has happened on the straight side? Lower conversions, loss of surfer trust/loyalty, diminished profits etc.

We all know that for the most part the str8 sponsors pushing out these micro-niched sites with 8 sets of content in them at launch, is all the niche specific content those sites are even going to have in them, but the fact these sponsors are paying out $40 for a $1 trial, imho means that a lot more gay surfers will be joining those sites first before seeing any of the quality sites published by those in the gay industry.

Sure, people say gay surfers are more sophisticated and discerning but... are they really given the opportunity to be more sophisticated and discerning?

A large straight program comes out with some niche sites and pays an assload of money PPS and what happens? Gay webmasters crawl all over eachother for the opportunity to promote them and land those fat PPS affiliate checks. The sites are shoved in surfers' faces, they're whored out to the surfers and thrown at them left and right and they end up signing up... then, through no fault of their own, end up cynical, skeptical, dissatisfied, frustrated and quite often ripped off.

When we, as gay webmasters, rail against the predominantly straight programs for launching such sites, we need to take a step back and look at our own role in it all and the ways in which we contribute to their proliferation. We can't collect $50+ PPS commission checks with one hand while flipping off the programs signing those checks with the others.

When I look at how much we spend on our content, exclusive models and original videos and the time and effert and energy put in to original content, as well as customer service and a quality product - and I know we're not the only people doing this and there are tons and tons of other gay webmasters that we compete with as well as others that offer a different product but also of extremely high quality - and then have affiliates coming up to me saying "Offer PPS... offer higher % commissions... offer big fat PPS commissions... do what BIGSTRAIGHTPROGRAMXXX.COM does if you want my traffic..." it can be quite frustrating.

When I see an affiliate sending surfers to some misleading and deceptive site off of the same page they're sending surfers to my site on, it can be quite frustrating and disconcerting.

There are some gay-owned and operated companies doing the same thing these days - following the model pioneered by predominantly straight companies that repackage the same old content in to niche-specific sites that are nothing but a trap for surfers so that webmasters can exchange their money amongst one another.

So... it's not just the straight companies doing it. There are gay companies doing it, and gay affiliate webmasters enabling the entire phenomenon to take place... all the while alienating surfers and hurting us all in the long run.

I would like to speak for Silvercash on this subject. I know that it may seem like we are another cash company with Cookie Cutter sites but we are not. We have exclusive HD content that we shoot and we also have plenty of other things inside our members areas for our surfers to check out. We are in a new stage with working with the gay market and our content will get better and better.

Silvercash plans on adding new great content and we have several great studios that are going to shoot for us. I have great faith in our product and I know that it will only get better from here.

SC may have been lucky with being able to offer the 50.00 pps but we are also paying for it too. It took a long time to be able to do something like that. It's not going to last forever either. It's was a nice promotion that we were lucky to be able to do. The payouts will be just about as high but we needed a nice push for our new sites.

I am all for small gay company's and would love to work with them all. Please hit me up if you would like to do any kind of trades or such. I am open for anything.

You bring up some good points however, i really dont think these sites are actually put together with gay webmasters in mind, rather those straight webmasters that have gay traffic.

In fact, i recall a year or two back one large straight program operator saying he would never market any of his sites to 'gay' webmasters because we dont have the amounts of gay traffic that some of the larger str8 webmasters have.

Of course, a year later he launches an all gay affiliate program LOL

Im wondering if, even though these are gay sites, if they are being built and promoted by gay affiliates, or straight affiliates trying their hand at gay traffic? It would seem to me that most programs offering gay sites are only offering them to give their straight traffic affiliates a place to send their gay traffic.

I hear what you're saying, Robert, and actually am quite thrilled you're there at SilverCash now because you know the market, you know gay porn, and from what I gather SilverCash has entrusted you to launch some real quality, unique sites that really do have something to offer surfers.

I wish more of the larger straight companies would do what you guys are doing.

If a large company has the resources to pay out those huge PPS signups AND produce quality content, then by all means go for it and more power to them.

At some point we are going to have to stick together or these str8 companies that can just throw around the cash they made with their str8 porn sites will drown all of us in their generic cookie cutter crap. Like many have said mainly the only people promoting these sites now are other str8 webmasters so for now the damage is limited, but these companies normally have very little regard for gay viewers, and would have no real problem with destroying confidence in our side of things, just to make a few quick bucks.

This is one of the only truly gay run and owned industries in the world, if we let these str8 companies to far into the chicken coop we will all lose what little we now have. Personally I wish str8 companies would say the hell away from us, and you can call me heterophobic if you want, but turn about is fare play. :fuckyou:

I remember going to a GFY party in Miami a couple years back.

Yes, they really ARE all that stupid in real life.

It was like being at the auditions for a Beverly Hillbillies movie.

What DOES make me feel good, however, is that if you go to a site like JustUsBoys.com and see what the gay surfers are talking about... it's all gay run sites.

They talk about Sean's site, Jake's, Corbin, Fratmen, Randy... Menatplay. The odd mention of sites like NewYorkStraightMen but that's about it.

There's a bit of attention given to the odd straight-run site, but it's very short-lived. Quality rises to the top and the rest sinks.

I wouldn't say all or even MOST on GFY, but that is the forum where I find some of the most hateful posters I've ever met. Lot of good folks there too, but the bad guys really do stand out.

It's not even "hateful", it's just clueless.

I mean, I started docking in the 70s when I was 12. they act like it's the most bizarre thing they've ever heard of, and are shocked to think of it even happening. The reactions to anything gay on GFY spans from extreme homophobia (and we all know what that means) to just moronic comments.

Anyway.. only promote gay-owned companies and solid gay-owned sites.

not only are they better and therefore more likely to stay around longer, but it's best that we support our own.

If I've learned anything this year, it's that we can do with without big straight companies, and we can do it better.

I remember going to a GFY party in Phoenix, I think, and in my drunken stupor was hitting on a straight guy, and he was like.... "you're gay.. but.. but... you're good looking... you could get a girl" as if that had never been an option I had considered.
