Racism In Porn? Why Is It Accepted?

So im wondering why the industry actually 'stands' for programs that launch sites with words like 'niggers' 'pakis' etc in the site names, especially moreso on the straight side of things, are we really not concerned about the words we use when it comes to building sites that we totally overlook the fact that these sort of words are insitefull?

I mean seriously, why?

Not just racist type words either, slut, whore, cunts, bitches, etc are commonly used for straight sites.

Have we really hit a stage in the industry where even the simplest thing has been overlooked in order to turn a profit?

I couldnt imagine anyone actually going to some guy in the street and calling him a '****** fag' and not expect to have their lights punched out, why should 'online' be any different?

It is alarming but that is the straight world for you. You just won't find words used like that on gay-owned sites. But I sometimes wonder if staright words like 'whore' aren't used in a similar fashion as 'pig'. Who's to say that a sex-positive woman doesn't like to be called a whore during the heat of passion?

How are things offensive if they turn you on? If a white guy or a black guy wants to look at interacial porn that uses a lot of racial slurs, either one is doing it because it turns him on. There might be something taboo about it, and that might be why it's turning them on. Perhaps a big black successful upper level manager wants to fantasize that he's a "****** banging insatiable white sluts who can't get enough of his huge black cock" (improvisational porn writing right there). When it comes to sex political correctness societies rules just don't matter. If people adhered the rules of society rather than what turned them on, every gay guy here would be married to a woman right now. You'd be stuck in a marriage with a terrible sex life because you put societal rules over your sexuality. It's in that same spirit that a porn surfer can say "Forget society, I'm in my home with my computer and I'm going to whack off to "chink midget bitches getting fucked by huge ****** cocks."
That was possibly the most offensive thing I've ever written or said. Either way, point is societal rules vs. sexuality, crushing victory for sexuality.

I think people don't take a lot of things seriously they see online. I know I don't.

We see porn as public, but a lot of people view it in the utmost privacy. For them it isn't public property, they view it in the privacy of their own home and don't care what people think. Anyway, nothing turns people on like taboo.

The funny thing is I know the owners of a couple of the most popular American owned Gay sites have filmed an asian or black model, once or twice, to avoid being seen as racist, which I thought was flawed logic.

we shoot guys who look good, regardless of race - thing with us is this -
in the LA area, there are fewer black men who bareback than white (on average) and even fewer asians - whites and hispanics still outnumber all others -

the only conclusion I can draw from this is I that based on my limited scope of reference, whites and hispanics are more likely to engage in risky behavior...

Porn is EXACTLY where I expect (and do find) racism and degradation.

But I have to agree somewhat with JamesXR. Everyone has a fetish, maybe they just haven't found them yet. And to some, the taboo is that.

I have always thought the the most homophobic people were often the most gay. (Look at Ted Haggard, et all.) Perhpas those that are vocal racists (like SOME skinheads, KKK, etc.) are actually attracted to what they rally against, and it is that fear that makes them act out. Perhaps at home, in secret, they are looking at NI**ERSEX.com or something. No clue. Just an idea.

Interesting thread - I'll throw in my two cents:

1st, although our site features primarily white guys, one of our first models was black and didn't hurt us one bit, in fact we have gotten requests for more of him and will probably be filming him again soon.

2nd, I am shocked at the number of white models for whom on of the first words out of their mouth is that they won't perform with a black person.

3rd, I was actually told by an "industry" person that we should have a new black guy at least once every 6 months to not be considered racist.

4th, we have had several hispanic models, although they have all been white. One member actually emailed me questioning whether one model was hispanic because he didn't "look hispanic." Funny thing is, this same model had been sprayed down with brown by another studio to "look more hispanic" for the shoot.

Oprah has just taken on a similar topic regarding Hip Hop and the whole bitches and ho's thing.

I remember seeing one site that said "These girls are dumb as a rock," which isn't the worse thing you could say, I suppose, but it just seemed unnecessarily demeaning.

The only way it'll change is by people speaking out. Maybe GWW should have a stupid site of the week thread that gets stickied to the top. Things certainly won't change unless people speak out.

You'll always have people with poor judgement doing this kind of stuff. Who knows how the best way to handle it is. I always think "Geez ... ccbill/Epoch appoved this? Or, VISA approved this? Or, webmasters promote this?"

Yes that sentence saying "Porn is the last place I'd expect people to racism and degradation. I'm shocked" was complete sarcasm ;) It's interesting the number of sites catering to degradation. There must be a lot of closet case S&M people out there.

Actually, most real players in S&M are more about repect that degradation. While they might "degrade" their partners, the "degraded" are the ones who call the shots. One word and its all over.

However, on the 'surface' I can see how those unaware of Safe, Sane and Consenual play might see things a lot different.

Yes, essentially that's the case. But most healthy players in S&M subscribe to the Safe, Sane and Consensual credo. So essentially you talk about your limits with your partner, your partner agrees to respect your limits and not go beyond them without your permission, and you establish a "safe" word, so that once you've truly had enough you just yell out "purple submarine" and the whole scene comes to a grinding stop. (A safe word is generally something other than "no" because often a part of the scene is role playing like pretending that you don't want to do something just so more of something else will happen, i.e. if you're extra bad you might get spanked more, although a good top will see this manoeuvre and withhold the spanking as punishment. :) )

So, perhaps you like to be spanked with hands, belts, and paddles, but not floggers and whips, and your other limitation is that the top should leave no marks. Your top will have to find a creative way to apply the corporal punishment and respect those limitations.

It's all about playing in a respectful way, which doesn't mean you won't be scared within an inch of your life, if you have no limitations about that.

I think that S&M in real life and on the internet are not always the same thing. Some responsible S&M sites make sure to end the scene with the abusee smiling and clearly happy with having been in the scene, but internet porn vicarious fantasy. Some viewers want their abuse abusive. Zombie Girl once told me that one of her billers was demanding that she show the girls on her pants wetting/desperation site smiling and enjoying themselves, but that would be ridiculous as who enjoys accidentally peeing their pants in public. The viewers demand realism, and her models generally found the scenes to be easy work, so she stuck to her guns.
I guess the whole point is that some viewers looking for S&M may be looking for S&M, others searching for abuse may be looking for realistic abuse. They don't care how well the models are treated, they just don't want that interjected into their fantasy. I think that porn surfers are more honest in what they watch than what they do in much of the rest of their lives. I think that people in powerless positions tend to look for someone to look down on or degrade. It seems that in the South way back when the poor white people felt better about themselves because they could look down on the poorer black people. In India they have racially/religiously motivated riots every so many years in which ordinary people commit terrifying atrocities against others. In the middle east you can go buy videos where terrorists behead people. When you're in internet porn you're giving people a consequence free environment, and as a consequence you're dealing with the way people are deep down, and not all people are as pretty as they appear on the surface. Some people want to see rape porn when they're alone on the internet; I, on the other hand, read web comics.

As for race, I didn't realize that so much thought went into it. Has anyone sued over discrimination? I've never sued over the fact that all my credit card offers that come in Spanish have much worse terms than the ones in English.

The problem with the scenario you described above though, especially when it comes to 'online porn' is that it starts becoming less like S+M and more like obscenity... Its a very fine line but one that we, as adult webmasters, need to be certain not to cross and i think when we start talking about 'extreme' content, as in content that doesnt mimic real life S+M situations is where we're ultimately going to meet our downfall.

Lets not forget, the producers of 'obscene' content, 9 times out of 10 arent the ones who end up paying the price, just like 9 times out of 10 producers of child porn arent the ones who end up paying the price of the content, its legitimate content producers and adult webmasters that end up taking the brunt of this type of content because we all get smeared with the same brush as those pushing the limits above and beyond what is considered acceptable when it comes to online porn.

I agree with you. The adult industry does tend to be responsible, and needs to be responsible. The adult industry is the supply side, but the demand side is generally unencumbered by the need for responsibility. You are dealing directly with people's ids on the internet. Are there obscenity laws on content consumption, aside from child porn?
I'm just saying that consumers put money on the table, and porn producers can see what needs to be done to pick it up. Degradation totally messes up my groove, but a lot of straight porn producers don't seem to think porn that's respectful of women would sell too well. Of course others produce it porn respectful of women and they do fine.
While much of what the porn industry produces might not be tasteful, especially extreme content, it is at least honest. I wonder if our society might benefit if porn weren't the only place that disturbed people could be honest about who they are. You can't really help someone if you don't want to face the fact that they have a problem. Of course, there is the possibility that any sexual issue is ingrained and incurable, like pedophiles, and it is best just to plow under those people who we can't accept in society.
