I heard there is a condom the color of bluescreen where, after you replace the color in post editing, you can't even tell they're wearing a condom :gaydays:
why would anyone want to "disguise" the look of a condom?
if your shooting condom movies, let the condoms show for christ's sake - after all, that's what they are right? condom videos?
if you want the video to appear as if the models don't wear condoms, your cheating the viewer and should be shooting bareback!
customers don't like to be tricked.... at least that's my opinion
I mean, what your saying here is that condoms are not desirable in videos and need to be disguised because why?!?!?
now on the other hand, we would cut the ends off of ours condoms when we shot for major studios - they didn't tend to mind when we fucked each other and the camera couldn't see what was going on.... that's a different issue
The most unoticeable condom is the one that stays in its pack on the bedside table.
I actually agree with Tony on this one, if you are trying to make your condoms less noticable, shoot bareback and be 'truthfull' about what your intentions are.
Lots of studios, companies and individuals as of late have been trying to skirt around the issue of publicly stating they wont promote bareback whilst still trying to cash in on bareback traffic by 'hiding' the condoms on the model or shooting the scenes so the penetration isnt 100% visible.
IMHO, you cant say you arent going to promote bareback content in one instant then in the next say you want to produce content where condoms arent visible so you can cater to the bareback traffic sources.

Lee
polyurethane condoms are thinner and harder to see, but they are also less form fitting, so wrinkles in the material could be an issue visually.

Cam, clever answer :)
Tony, I don't know what others intentions are, but I could see trying to make the use of condoms unobtrusive without offending the buyer.
We would never deceive a buyer by implying our content is bareback, and we would always include a safer sex notice to the effect that all content was shot using condoms, but I could see how using condoms that aren't obvious would protect the models while still not drawing attention to the presence of the condoms, and perhaps allowing the viewer to enjoy the fantasy if s/he doesn't like to be reminded about condoms, as some HIV+ people have stated is an issue for them viewing porn.
I agree it's a fine line and arguably goes against the notion of trying to present a message about safe sex in the videos.
Patti, we tried the polyurethane condoms at the last shoot. The consensus from the models was that they totally suck - not only are they less form fitting, but they tear easily and aren't very comfortable, AND they weren't any less obtrusive than the better latex condoms.
When I watch porn, sometimes SEEING the condom does make me forget the "fantasy" and can totally understand why the someone might be interested in less "noticeable" condoms.
I thought it was a pretty innocent question..was interesting to see some pretty intense responses right off the bat.
If the intent of the condom producers is to provide safe sex portrayal through the use of condoms than do it and don't be ashamed of condoms and stop fucking griping about it.
USE THEM and make them sexy for Christ's sake. Make them desirable - if you can't do that than you have no business shooting porn!
Condoms should not be feared, they should be glamorized!
and this, coming from me? I mean come on guys, what's going on?
are condoms really that bad? if so, why do we bareback producers always get told that condom films sell twice as much and are in twice as many place than bareback? am I being lied to?
yeah, I mean nobody want to wrap a baggie around their cock and stick up a hot ass - but that's not my problem is it...
I'm sorry, I know that I'm being rude but, I just don't understand why it is so difficult to have fun with what you got to work with - Cam and I managed to pull off 20 very hot scenes for condom features we performed in and some of those titles won best of this and that at those award shows we've been banned from
if we can do it, anyone can
WRONG!!! If it looks like your barebacking then you are. Condom studios have kept us locked out of half the market because they do show condoms in there vids. But if everyone looks like there barebacking It would open us up to markets that have shut us out. We would all be on the same playing field. WE would sell more!! And thats a FACT!!
Umm..noooo..I don't think you are barebacking..because...ta da..you're wearing a condom..even though it's difficult to see.
And as to the "condom market" keeping you out of so many markets, just HOW does that happen? IF you have a good product, and good promotion, then you should be able to sell it virtually anywhere. How are you stopped?
OK: Gay Bareback Marketing 101
Why is there a condom market and a bareback market. It has nothing to do with if you have a good product, and good promotion. We all have good stuff.
It has to do with the FACT that many retailers and some VOD companies feel that the best way to get people to stop playing unsafe is to SHOW models wearing condoms.
They have told us this. and are willing to lose the good sales that could make by selling bareback to help send that message to there customers.
BUT if you make it look like everyone is barebacking, even if some are wearing unseen condoms, then you will not be sending the safe message anymore.
People will see what looks like barebacking in all videos. How does that send a safe sex message to anyone. It wont!!
So those retailers and some VOD companies that wont sell bareback will ether stop selling all new videos with this unseen condoms in it. or open up there doors to all of us, since the reason to keep us out would be gone.
It sounds like your only concern is that you want to compete with us and still us condoms.
Because one type of condom is less "obstrustive" than another doesn't mean "Oh gee whiz..this is a bareback site!"
Come on..give the surfers a little credit for having some brains and KNOWING that there ARE condoms out there that AREN'T white and ALMOST look invisible (but they aren't if you watch gay porn..even the most transparent are noticeable if you look hard enuf).
Just by using a less noticeable condom does not send the message of "unsafe sex!"
All in all, it just seems much ado about nothng.
What a load of crap. Who said anything about trying to make it look bareback?
theres a HUGE difference in trying to 'deceive the viewer' as you say, cutting the rubber end off etc or simply going for a condom thats doesnt look like it could save you from a nuclear disaster.
All i asked if there was any brand of condom that was less noticeable, i.e. thinner and more natural looking. End of
There are two issues I am aware of. Concern about the safety of the models and concern about sending a message to the viewers of porn implying that barebacking is somehow "validated" through showing the activity in adult films.
Cam, I agree that if the condoms were somehow completely invisible (which it's alreedy been pointed out they are not, even with the transparent ones or the ends cut off) then the 2nd argument, concern about the message to viewers, is invalidated, and the safer sex producers, such as Chi Chi, who are concerned with that message, would be being disingenuous.
However, I would also say that for those of us who are uncomfortable asking a model to do something we would not do ourselves, the choice to use condoms that are simply less obtrusive is not disingenuous.
I myself wrestle with the issue of sending a message about unsafe sex being OK. I think there's probably little doubt that some kids are influenced by what they see in porn, in the same way they are influenced by seeing cigarettes or drug use or violent acts in Hollywood films. The research does indicate pretty conclusively that exposure of children and teens to "undesirable" things such as violence and smoking in films does lower resistance to (and appears to increase the likelihood of) engaging in those behaviors. So it is not unreasonable to assume that the same effect is had when teens and young adults are exposed to barebacking.
Should it be banned? No. For the same reason offensive speech should not be banned.
But those for whom sending and portraying a safe message is important should continue to follow their gut, and should be aware that there is no *need* to produce bareback in order to sell competitively against bareback product. The studios who produce safer sex product that continues to sell well are a testament to that.
And for those who practice barebacking in their private lives and/or produce bareback content... they should also follow their gut. As long as they are OK with the choices they are making, and (particularly when working with twinks) they are honestly and truthfully conveying the risks accurately and not "whitewashing" or arm twisting, it's their choice.
