How Much Longer Will Adult Be Profitable For Paysites?

In terms of companies setting up paysites as a part of their business model?

For example, how long do you think it is going to be until ppv becomes THE thing to have in order to make money instead of recurring or subscription based business models?

I just finished a conversation with someone a few minutes ago and we were both of the mindset that pretty soon, we're going to start seeing a migration away from the recurring/subscription billing model to a more streamlined approach as an industry towards on demand/ppv or pay per download billing, however the problem with this is, the 2 main processors at the present time, simply arent equipt to facilitate this change in billing mechanism and because of this, its going to be started by a company with their own merchant account and programmers who will write the backend necessary to bill (and payout to affiliates) using newer models than what we are used to now.

So, how long do you folks think it is going to be until we start seeing 'paysites' as we currently know them, the way of the TGP?

i know of plenty highly successful tgps that haven't gone anywhere, and i hope that will also apply to paysites as i make an average of $2 per member on pay per view and over $35 per member with paysites.

I dunno about all that but :cough: it sure would be nice if sponsors learn to make stuff thats user friendly~ such as having groups of content together that match one another and actually releasing updates instead of launching a program and sticking content out there never to release an update again for YEARS! :hippy:

One of the things that I think/hope we will begin to see is a move away from "pay per minute" and toward "pay per scene"... as Patti said, it's hard to make money off a surfer when s/he can jump around and watch the 3 minutes out of a 20 minute scene that they want, and pay 24 cents for the privilege... while watching a scene you paid 3 bucks to see (or even $1) is more reasonable in terms of cost recovery for the content producer.

As a user, I love vod. In my opinion, AEBN is by far the best site out there. And they have a lot of content already from exclusive paysites. With more paysite owners making their stuff available on aebn, it's just a matter of time before aebn's market share gets even bigger.

As a webmaster I like both. When I first started in the biz and did not have that much traffic I made a lot more money converting paysite sales than I did aebn. But now that I have a good amount of traffic and have been sending traffic to aebn consistantly they are by far my #1 sponsor. If they had more marketing tools available the gap between them and my #2 sponsor would be in the thousands.

As long as there are paysite owners out there producing exclusive niche content that is only available (legally) on their sites, there will be people willing to buy monthly memberships. At least I hope so cause I have a bunch of paysites in the works.

I dont think we will see traditional paysites go anywhere anytime soon.. There is still too much money being made from people who join up and forget to cancle their membership for a few months... I would say that on a monthly basis we have about 15-20 members that write in wanting to cancel after having found out that they have been paying for the membership for 2-3 months where they didnt use it...

Some will demand a refund and get it, others will simply chuck it up to a lesson learned and that equals money on our bottom line... so i dont see paysites going anywhere as i am sure we are not the only ones seeing this happen on a weekly basis...

i'm surprised to hear it. aebn's video quality is way lower than the stuff at some paysites now. it's also offered with less formats and features. not to mention their old school tours, usingthe most overexposed ounique pics from the 90's and non niche specific text. my minutes have been going down - i used to make $4 something per member and now make $2, so for me, looks like the market share is going down...

I can only speak from our personal experience - As content providers, I see that AEBN numbers continue to be strong while our members' numbers climb as our store sales also remain strong although, wholesale is down a little (but that will change) - we're still too new at this game to have any knowledge as to long term forcasts (5 years as porn producers isn't enough time for me to determine where WE are heading...)

The feedback we have been receiving is that our members prefer to subscribe to OUR pay site and get all of our premium content at great screen ratios (we offer a choice of sizes) and get hi-rez photos too - tons of our well produced content to view rather than getting our content from one of our feeds and viewing the same stuff by the minute at 1/2 the rez - also, we have a following and our members enjoy downloading and keeping our stuff - interesting that offering our content in this format hasn't necessarily affected our store sales...

Most important, our site features our content encoded from the "masters" rather than the feeds which put up our content reproduced from DVDs which are only a fraction of the quality before they get encoded and shrunk even more... we KNOW that people want higher quality to view on their new and very expensive home entertainment systems (thanks apple)

Most of the consumers we talk to (retail, renters, surfers, etc.) don't really seem to understand all the ways they can watch our stuff - all they want is more....!

I think it'll be a long time before paysites die off, if they ever do. I think a good program needs a variety of things to appeal to the largest group of surfers. Some surfers aren't happy with one site, they like the 50,000 site appeal of AVS; others like PPV; some surfers see PPV as a waste of money as they don't get to keep anything, so they'll prefer the video download model; and some surfers are always going to be happy with checking in with their favourite paysite a couple of times a week.

I do see a few more companies following the Take My Cum model where the surfer buys a video clip and it's theirs to keep. But you need exclusive content for that model.

you know the funny thing is that the guys that download our movies from our paysite and get to keep them and do whatever they want with them also enjoy owning a dvd of the same - but then, dvd's are a completely different market - our T&C store sales have climbed since we put up barebackMasters.com on January 1 of this year - our goal is to provide our stuff in many if not all different formats so that people will have more access - kind of like the Coca Cola approach - my days are long gone of thinking that we should limit sales to certain markets while excluding others - we're into the global marketplace these days.... total ubiquity

The quality is definitely not as high as some other paysites but the amount of content makes up for that by far in my opinion. Seems like they have everything in almost every niche. And I love the VOD biz model. Been using the same chunk of minutes to watch porn at aebn for like the last 2 months.

I too make about $2/sale promoting aebn and have for the last 2 years. But with close to 1500 sales a month it works out.

For a few months I marketed GayVideoBox, now renamed VideoBoxMen. Their stats showed monies earned and then the amount vanished months ago without a payment. I did a test signup and and I was never credited... so be warned about working with adultplatform. I have ceased linking to them.

Let me introduce myself to those in this thread. I am Michael Bauer and I am the product manager of
GayVideoBox.com which has recently gone through a name change to VideoboxMEN.com

EddieK use to work for GayVideoBox.com, however is no longer with the organization.

As the product manager of VideoboxMEN.com, I have a strong philosophy that the paysites provide a different service then those of ppv or vod sites. A paysite where members can have access to a library of various content allows customers a cost effective way to sample all sorts of niches, studios, stars, and begin to learn about the adult industry in a safe, fun environment. A member might try out that smoking midget porn on a membership site; but never purchase it on DVD or stream it on a pay-per-view or video-on-demand site. How many times has a consumer streamed a title on ppv or vod solely based off of a box cover or 3 screen captures and a description, and end up not liking the content and feeling ripped off? Thus creating a poor user experience.

As a membership site with patented technology that Videobox and VideoboxMEN.com (GayVideoBox.com) has, it allows our members to fully explore the whole library and 'edit' the content for the segments that they want to watch or download AND share reviews of the different titles with other members. How many customers actually watch an adult movie from start to finish like a mainstream movie? They usually hit that fast forward button to the action, star, or segment that caused them to watch the title to begin with. Plus with a whole library of content available, it helps members explore (much like a person at a buffet with all sorts of foods) their tastes in adult content and opens them up to new experiences that they might not have had if they had to pay-per-minute.

Plus, paysites provide studios with yet another avenue to gain revenue off of titles that might have lost their shelf life or are not being as profitable on aebn or ppv sites while marketing their studio content to yet another segment of the internet. It would be foolish to think that having only one exclusive avenue of distribution will grow a content provider's profit margins and brand. Or believe that every title a studio has on a ppv site is making them money. Some titles do better then others on ppv, so having an additional avenue to make some additional revenue off of those titles is a big benefit to the studios.

The WorldWideWeb is a big spacious shopping mall, where there is actually room for all different kinds of sites. Much like Walmart, Sears, Nordstroms, and Dillards can all be in the same shopping mall with little unique boutiques. I think there is definitely room for Paysites, PPV, VOD, DVD merchandise warehouses, and even Free sites. As a consumer myself, I have used all of these avenues in my own online experiences.

Paysites won't go away, as long as there are sites developing their own content,such as Randy Blue, Sean Cody, etc., and sites that build members based community, and site that provide new technology that creates better user experiences for their members.

This is part of the reason I now research new businesses on the boards and am so diligent about the dodgy people and people with a checkered past.

EddieK worked for me at a pivitol time in my business a couple years ago and was the first full time employee I hired to help expansion. That mistake took a long time to recover from and it was a very difficult and painful process.

I checked his references and he got a little advertising deal with me and Falcon so I thought he was legit. A few people privately know what this mistake cost me at the time. Hopefully others will learn from our mistakes ;)

Thank you for the insight regarding EddieK. I was not with GayVideoBox at the time when EddieK was with the company. From these postings and through other contacts, I have learned much about the mistakes of my predecessor.

My background is in the educational assessment publishing industry with McGraw-Hill, Harcourt Assessments, and Pearson Education, where accurate, reliable, and valid data is a must as it is contractually stated within each state educational departments. Being a webmaster is a new adventure for me, but establishing good business relationships is not. I have already begun to establish some good relationships within the industry and continue to look forward to building more.

VideoboxMEN is looking to build solid and fun business relationships that are profitable and successful. We only hope to recover quickly from the bad experiences others have had because of the association with EddieK. EddieK is no longer associated with any part of Videobox, VideoboxMEN, or AdultPlatform.

If he follows his usual pattern there will be forum spam on a lot of boards for the program, a few small banner deals to bring money in for the owners, and little, if any, bottom line results. After a few months they'll catch on, get fired, and he'll be looking for work again.

As a PAID USER of VIDEOBOXMEN, your DVD option did not work with Vista WM11. I searched your site for support answers and eventually sent a support message via site... and got a "thanks for your comment/suggestion" response.
