I just wondered how many of you folks actually kept a wad of cash in the house for emergencies etc?
Since a couple of years ago when we had to evacuate from the hurricanes, we've kept a stash of money in the house in case the ATM machines / CC lines go down again.
I just wondered if anyone else kept actual money in their home/office in case of an emergency?

Its a must when living in a 3rd world country like Panama, there are so many things that can go down (electricity, bank networks, phone/data lines that ATM machines also use, etc) plus the odds are about 1 in 10 that the local bank machines are broken or out of money. And most importantly, when shit hits the fan you need cash to bribe your way out of some pretty nasty situations.
If I did, I would not tell the world that I have cash in te house.
I keep $100k in a pouch on the top shelf of my closet. My address is 123 Main st, anywhere USA. Can mapquest it if you wanna come and see my wad!
Seriously though, I keep a little "just in case" cash here. Never know.

but I do know that most all of our neighbors (here in Beverly Hills) have their maids wash, sanitize and dry their bills (on clothes lines) on a regular basis...

i did make my mom start keeping some cash - not a huge wad, but enough so if a situation like the earthquake in 1994 happens, she can buy food, take a cab, etc.

Heh, it's true that a lot of famous murders began with some nut hearing about the large stash of cash kept at so-and-so's house.
