Myspace is useless to me.

Lee's thread on 'social networking sites' got me thinking.

I can honestly say that I've never spent more than a few minutes at a time on myspace or it's competitors. Hell, i don't think I've ever been to facebook. I find it completely boring and useless. It's just seems like trivial garbage to me. 'My favorite movies', 'my friends', 'my favorite music'... who gives a shit? And those stupid messages with super lame graphics that people leave on other people's pages... 'Thanks for adding me!' (insert picture of a cute puppy face or bouquet of flowers). UGH! And don't get me started on the eye-destroying designs of people's pages!

Do people really want digital friends? Are people really that lonely or bored? Do they ever actually make REAL friends or at least have real conversations like we do on boards like GWW?

Maybe it's a generational thing that I don't understand. Or maybe it's because I'm anti-social (I was the kid at school that waited around for other kids to come up to me and make friends). Or maybe it's just a silly fad that will go away soon.

What do you all think?

I couldn't agree more! I thought it was just me! When myspace and all of that stuff became popular, people would ask if I had myspace??? I would ask, why would I?

I thought it was like a friend networking thing for like Jr High and High School students. So I was like ok, let me see what the hoop is all about. I checked it out and thought it was useless and boring, who cares about your favorite movies, music and your friends network. So I never got one. Just seemed like one more thing to get bothered with emails, messages, etc.

But we must be missing something! A lot of people have them and really seem to like it.

Looking forward to seeing other members feedback.

I've tried MySpace and gay.com , but I find those more of use to individual models that to me as a Producer/Director with a catalog of models.

Friendster was popular for a while, then everyone went to Tribe. I couldn't be bothered with either for the same reasons mentioned here.

When Myspace got popular I decided to tackle it to see how much I could exploit it. I copy-and-paste each of my regular blog items to Myspace, I add as many Friends as possible, utilize the bulletins, etc.

And guess what? I haven't gotten ANY recognizable click thru's.

I've decided it's not a marketing tool, it's merely a webpage creation tool for people with no html skills. Period.

MySpace is useless to me too. I totally dont understand how to make a dime on that web site.

Wow! It's nice to hear from others that they just don't get it either, lol.

I can understand why webmasters would want to use it as a marketing tool (if it actually worked). But no one here seems to think that it has any value as an actual 'social networking' tool. Maybe we are all just a bunch of social misfits. :D

I remember when MySpace was cool for like 15 minutes.

Myspace is awesome for finding music. But that's pretty much where the benefit ends if you ask me.

You know, its interesting that everyone so far has said MySpace is useless and crap yet a few of the people posting in here are under the impression and adult social networking site would work.

MySpace Sucks.

I deleted our Fratmen page because all I ever got was Spam messages from people saying shit like "I don't know this website but I have a profile over here..." with a link to another page.

I deleted my own because of everything James said... stupid graphics, boring shit that I don't care about "which Golden Girl are you?" and all that "THANKS FOR THE ADD" crap. Pages that are 3000 pixels wide and flashing and playing hip hop.

I have a facebook page for one reason... it helps me keep in touch with my REAL LIFE friends back in Toronto. YES, I did end up getting back in touch with a few people from high school but aside from a couple "Nice to see you're doing well" emails, that isnt' an on-going thing.

Facebook doesn't have all the ridiculous graphics and useless apps.

There ARE a few apps but they're kinda hidden and you only see them if you want. Which I don't.

Adult social networking seems like a waste of time. I mean, we all network here, right?

BTW, I love YouTube. It's 10x better than MySpace. There is a whole community aspect that many people are unaware of. There is a lot of useless crap too, but it also gives great video makers a platform, like this guy.

To me, too much chatting on sites like msn was a teenage to early 20's thing. But sites like MYSpace, what a waste of fucking time. My son if I let him (and hes 18 now) would sit on that damn site and the rest of them all day everyday. the culture today is that if you dont have myspace, u are a dag or some sort of loser. It seems that you have to have it just to fit in these days. here we have radio stations promoting myspace and they all have their profiles on it now. I think its a fad and it will pass when something new comes along. As far as being a tool that we can use....nah, it dont work. I cant be bothered with it anyways or any such site.

we use myspace quite a bit in our model search, we have on our application page a spot to have models put their myspace link, you can find out a lot about a person from reading their myspace page.

our main myspace page has over 5000 "friends" so its like a continuing advertisement,

dont spend much time on my personal one though.
