Legalization of Marijuana?!?!

I think it is an excellent idea.
What do you guys think?!?!
It has so many healing qualitys without side effects. My aunt has cancer and she is allowed to grow pot and she was telling me the other day that they give her morphine as well. The morphine makes her itch and it really upsets her stomach and I think anyone of us could relate to taking pain pills and them just making u feel sick and nasty.
I really am just kinda stumped why the government would outlaw something so natural and pure that is not chemical that could really help a lot of sick people and make there lives so much better. This is just another case of sad governing in my opinion. WTF! They can make alcohol legal something that is completly addictive and SUPER DESTRUCTIVE if your not responsible (trust me I lived with drunk parents, it is the worst thing ever) I have been around my aunt when she gets a buzz on from her pot and she is so happy and feels so much better and I guess it brought tears to my eyes to think of all the people pain that should be allowed this right.
Anyways I will stop ranting. Im sure this will piss someone off. This of course is just my opinion and my 2 cents. I also know it is not business oriented but I know we also talk about important subject sometimes to and this is just very important to me.

It makes me irate when i see stories on the news about state approved cannabis clubs being raided...feds vs state bullshit. Hello?!?!? how many cases have PROVEN that weed can help those with a NUMBER of ailments. Sure smoking ANYTHING isn't good for you...but neither is taking pills like Vicodin and such similar pain killers which put you in a much more inebriated state and are a wreck on your stomach.

There is a great documentary called "In Pot We Trust" that covers the whole medical aspect of it, and how well it works. It also goes on to tell about the Federal Marijuana Program; in which our (US) federal government cultivates pot plants and then rolls them into joints (or 'marijuana cigarettes'), packages them up into a case of 300, hermetically seals them and ships them off to 13 lucky US Citizen's each month; each of whom have some type of medical condition in which Marijuana is the only known drug that can help them. We have Bush senior to thank for cutting the list at 13. So, the feds DO recognize the medicinal purposes it has...but apparently it's much easier to spend the billions of dollars and waste precious time each year by sticking to the 'war on drugs'.

It's illegal because people can grow it on their own. The drug companies and the government run alcohol stores will lose money if people are allowed to grow a plant in their own homes that will increase the quality of their lives. Don't you realize our government is only interested in making money off of us and not about making us happy?

Well that is just fucking lame.. Marijuana is truely a blessing to sick people. I know I have seen first hand the amazing healing capabilitys the herb has, not to mention it is natural and non chemical. Seems pretty elementry to me to put two and two together, ya know what I mean? No weird side effects from a pill doing who knows what to your damn body. Thats just my take though.

Yeah, but there are many other "all natural" plants and herbs that are poisonous. Just because it's all natural doesn't mean it can't hurt you.

Thats very true but from what I have been reading marijuana doesnt seem to have any adverse effects except causing acid reflux disease over time and that is just because of the inhalation of smoke. This is one of the most frustrating topics for me personally. IMO it boils down to 1 thing, $$. I took a personal stand and set up my own indoor, 2 room garden. Had it going for 7 sleepless years and was STRESSED the whole time. Had many close calls with the cops, nosy neighbors, plumbers, cable guys, meter men, etc. And for what, plants. I recently shut the whole project down and totally regret it. My mom recently passed away. Cancer tore her up and let me tell you, a fat joint here and there would of made a huge difference. Anyway, I agree with what you all said. Hopefully some day our gov't will see the light and let us grow in peace. But I doubt it. :(

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for the legalization of it and think it's crazy that it's still, in this day and age, knowing what we do about it, that it's still illegal. I'm just saying, people think that if something is all natural it's automatically good and that's not true. It was a tangent. Sorry. Proceed. :)

I'll point to one reason marijuana possession is criminalized - it's popular. In 2006, the people of Nevada voted on the question of legalization, and it lost 44% to 56%. ( http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/pag...llot.measures/ ) Now, that's not a very close election....

That's probably why the drug laws are around - not because of some weird inside police state collective decision.

That being said, this is a great example of why I am not a fan of state ballot referendums. I don't believe in "mob rule" and just because the majority feels a certain way, it can infringe on the rights of the minority.

The Federal drug laws are wrong on so many different levels. But the main reason is that federal criminal laws are just inherently expensive, inefficient and do way more harm than good.

This week's news headlines show cases where, after all the federal guidelines are followed, blacks end up serving huge sentences for possession crack cocaine, while cocaine offenders serve one third of that. And in so many cases today - federal prosecutors go after someone for a crime, but end up nabbing them for a catch all --- lying to prosecutors. I have a civil rights problem with that.

This just happened in prosecuting baseball players for steriods, this happened to Scooter Libby, this happened to Martha Stewart. If prosecutors come for you regarding violating 2257 laws, it could happen to you.

And just say no to RICO and Sarbanes Oxley.

PS: I'll also list FEDERAL child porn laws as well as something I believe where they exist out of good intentions, but they suffer all the same problems as other federal criminal laws. I'm sorry --- 17 years, no parole and all that scarlet letter bullshit for the rest of Dawgy's life -- all for carrying images of child porn. Sorry, I think that's draconian, in my opinion.

Well, the Canadian Government wanted to change the criminal status of smoking marijuana, or even get caught with 15 gr or less in Canada, by giving a fined because it doesn't really make sense to send somaone in jail for having smoked a joint right? But it never happened because there's a republican govt that put so much pressure, we had to put the project on hold...:turddance:

Actually, Steve, the reason most drugs, LSD, E, Pot, are illegal is nothing to do with what you mentioned above, its due to the Vietnam War, at the time, the Supreme Court justices didnt want to have to deal with all those anti-war hippies getting high and throwing a wrench in the works of the war plan.

Thats why pot has been illegalized, legalized and illegalized so many times since the 60's depending on which government has been in power, its only been since the 70's that pot and several other drugs have been illegal.

Why not?

I personally haven't touched the stuff since my late teen years but I have no problem with legalizing it. Alcohol kills more people then marijuana probable ever could. You never hear politicians wanting to make alcohol illegal because they know it would be the end of their political life.

I do think some of the harder drugs should remain illegal but I don't think the users should be put in prisons just because they have a addiction.

Users are not put in prison people who have it are, big difference. You can be high as a kite and as long as you don't break any other law you have done nothing wrong but have some on you and you are illegal.
