What's the opinion on using an appraisal site to get an idea of your domain's value? I've got someone wanting to buy 100porn.com ... it's developed, has been active 5 years, but I have no idea what to realistically sell the name for. The potential buyer is suggesting we use http://pedma.com/site/
I've personally never heard of them.
Never heard of that one either, perhaps it is *the buyers* domain appraisal service so they can tell you a lower price?
Actually to be fair i have found in the past that using appraisal services usually end up over-inflating the cost of a domain or really under-estimating the cost of a domain name.
This is why i typically do not ask for a price when posting domain names for sale but will post that 'all reasonable offers will be accepted' sometimes i have a price in mind and offers will come in above and beywond that price, sometimes ill have a price in mind and offers will come in below that price.
Anyone asking you to pay for a domain appraisal imho, isnt worth doing business with because they actually do not know enough about buying domains themselves to know whether or not they are getting a good deal.
On that domain, id be happy accepting offers in the region of $100-$400 if i owned it based on the reality of it not being a $10,000 domain name. That being said, if you have an offer that you think is good, take it :)
Now, on developed domain names, typically the selling price is 3-6 time the monthly revenue.

Um, it is developed, but I don't have a clue on the income. But I do feel it's worth more than 50 bucks and an appraisal is going to run close to 30.

The question is, do you sell based on the domain or the developed site? If you have no way of actually tracking how much the developed site makes in a month then you really only have the value of the domain to go on price wise.
The other option is to valuate the domain name, developed site and traffic levels, but that i feel is just going to confuse things LOL

Well that was a waste of time. Seems the dear boy is a scammer of some sort ... either domain tasting or owns the appraisal domain is my guess. if you get Brandon Birdwell making an inquiry, there's plenty of posts on google recommending you run the other direction.
thanks for the heads up on that one. Usually when people write to me to ask about buying a domain, I respond back saying their initial offer had to be large enough for me to consider even negotiating :)
I've been reading about all of these scams where somebody has a fake domain appraisal service. It is apparently the latest twist in a long line of various scams involving fake escrow companies, fake appraisers, etc.
I got one of these today too, this time from "James Johnson".

looks like they run pedma.com and are trying to get people to use that service for domain name appraisals.
musclemovies.com, menonweb.com, menvids.com for sale.
3 Domains will be sold together, single package pricing. Developed paysite...and hot gay related domains.

Well today I have an actual cash amount offer for another domain and this is from a different email address/name and doesn't mention the appraisal site. Talk about trying to decide if I should even bother replying!!!! sheesh
if you do, don't use anyone other than Sedo or Escrow.com for escrow :)

Lee, its almost exactly the same. I bet that if you check those services you will find one of them a lot cheaper than the others....google that one to see if they are known for scamming (or compare their whois to pedma)
That one is laid out very different from mine Lee. Mine didn't have a % offer or the multiple sites to use for obtaining the appraisal.
