Was just curious if you folks had any suggestions on how to fully utilize Twitter as a marketing tool for adult sites?
Im noticing a lot more companies lately that are adding twitter urls to their sites so that surfers can keep updated on what they are doing.
Has anyone on GWW used Twitter for their adult sites and if so, how well did it work for you and are there any rules you have to follow when it comes to content you post about etc?

I've seen numerous discussions on other webmaster forums (mostly GFY) about using twitter for promotion - but to be honest I've never really gotten the whole twitter thing myself.
I tend to prefer venues where I can post (adult/fetish) promo pics instead of having to worry about a forum's TOS.
Maybe I'm just slow to warm up to twitter (shrug). But so far I still think it's somewhat of a lame and superficial concept.
We've been using Facebook for a few months but aren't sure how to use Twitter to promote our brand. We're not a true "adult" website, but a phone hook up/chat service so that is part of the stuggle...
See thats my concern, MySpace and FaceBook i 'understand' somewhat, Twitter i personally dont see the purpose to it, like who wants to know if someone using Twitter is sat on the toilet taking a dump?
Im thinking there must be a use for it though being so popular.

Yeah I don't get the Twitter concept, but......I suppose if someone wants to take their laptop to the toilet to take a dump, there might be somebody out there who cares.
Twitter does work. We use it along with about 15 other online social networks. Our conversion ratio's are a hell of a lot better than affiliated traffic.
Actually I got my first Twitter sale yesterday. A customer found me thru Twitter and decided to visit my site. Signed up. And emailed me to confirm he did it thru Twitter. I was really surprised. I guess I'll have to put more effort into that!
Can you use rss feeds on Twitter to update it with posts on a daily or weekly basis like with Blogs?

there are several wordpress plugins that will send new posts to twitter, we are using them on our blog, if that is what you are askingQuote:

See, my thing is...how do you get noticed on Twitter amongst a massive backdrop of mind-numbing posts? Do you specifically target certain areas to get noticed?
We use twitter for our various brands. Pretty much use it the same way we use MySpace and other viral avenues, with the goal of getting the name out there in free high traffic areas.
Do a target search, start with "adult industry" start following others and you will soon have them following you, I have also noticed that several of our affiliates are using twitter, from our blog, so when we update they do also. This puts us in front of the people following them as well as those following us.Quote:
