Help! Trying to create a gay hook-up site.

I have created www.gay4play.net. I would like for it to be like a man for man dating(hook-up) site. I have looked at other site in this arena, like manhunt,men4men, barebackrt, and have tried to use the same look to the site.
I need to ask some questions.

• How to dirve traffic to the site?
• Currently have my ads set so that guest can not see them, I have noticed some site allow any one to see ads / banners are there any laws to consider ?
• Is there any data on how much it cost to obtain one member to an adult site?
• Any suggestions?

well do some submission thing and SEO.... it will bring you traffic little by little....

its a forum? shouldnt it be a dating script or social networking script ?

Don't take this personally... I looked at your site. I see why your not having much luck. It seems as if someone who is 8 years old made it. Again, don't take it personally. I am horrible at making sites myself given why we have web-devlopers, programmers, and we outsource.

I went to it, the first thing I seen was "Get 15 minutes free."

The old term, "You have to spend money to make money" is still alive.

a) your going to either re-do your site to give it a 100% look and feel as a hookup site.
b) Do a lot of SEO work.

A hookup site should look like A4A, Manhunt, Community, gay.com, etc.

Here is ours that's FINALLY nearing completion: GaySting It's cost us about $5,000 to get this far and we're 3/4 of the way done. We're looking at a total development of $10,000. Once it's live, we have to do the same as you on SEO. By promoting it, it's going to cost us another $10,000 - $15,000.

One site that is really nice that is niche' focused is CumHunt It's cost them nearly what it's costing us, if not more, a lot more.

I know for a fact that Adam4Adam spent over $100,000.00 in their site project. I know Gay.com spent just over $1million to get where they are now.

before you go any further, I would ask you if you can afford this.

Remember, a hookup site is geared for locals to find a play mate. If you have a member from Miami, FL. Another member from Seattle, WA... Do you think the members will stay? They won't because they aren't finding anyone to hookup with.

You have to hit area by area and geo-traffic. We are going to be hitting major city by major city. One month focusing on Los Angeles, the next focusing on San Diego, the next San Francisco, the next Phoenix, the next Tucson, so on and so forth.

That's what your looking at.

If you can't go for that. I would clean up the site completely and maybe even re-do it and make it a community site. Like Facebook, Myspace, GayWatch, etc. Then I would worry about SEO.

Don't take it personal please. Being in the same situation, I'm stating this on what we're going through.

all that site was to me was for chatting and even then when that chat client was out i never went on it ;) it was all gaycanada and manhunt i guess but i had more luck just sitting on my knees in the ......... roflol

you need a whole new design, this won't cut it. A proper script, which is usually a few hundred dollars and a few hundred to thousand dollars a month for traffic, and not just any traffic.

how much it would cost you per member depends on your site's conversion rate. I work with some companies whose cost per new member is around $4 for each new signup

I figured I would bump this thread with our announcement.... It goes hand and hand....

We've decided to cut our losses and drop our upcoming gay dating site. We're dropping it for several reasons:
a) Too much competition out there already.
b) There's so many free gay dating sites out there that have all or better features than we can implement.
c) We're short staffed again to manage, market, and promote it. We had a marketing plan that was 30 pages in length of all the different ways we could market the site.
d) With being short handed, we'd rather invest our marketing and advertising more towards the paysites.

We will be turning gaysting into a membership site with a free forum for public and members to chat back and forth on.

It's official that Gay Sting has lost it's little stinger.

Gay Dating / Hookup sites are very difficult to manage. I have watched the growth of CumHunt.com. Over $60,000 has been put into the site development and marketing. They are nowhere where they want to be but are getting there.

Hookup sites simply do not succeed without A LOT of money. Look at what we spent just in development.

I do wish you the best of luck with your site. With that layout and function of the site I do not believe it's going to go anywhere. The first thing I see when I go to the site is an ad. It lost my interest at that point and I'm on about 10 different hookup sites. Your site gives me no reason to join.

Take a look at Adam4Adam, Gay.com, Gaywatch, Manhunt, DudesNude, and the others. That's how they've made it successful. Between Adam4Adam, Gay.com, and Manhunt over $5,000,000 (million) has been spent alone in basic marketing and development. When Adam4Adam first launched, they spent over $500,000 in marketing. And marketing is one thing you can never stop on. The second you do stop you will see your traffic decrease and decrease over time. Just like a paysite will.

And I have a question for you...

Why do you have a VistaPrint.com ad bluntly on the right side of your forum? It's a gay adult site. VistaPrint is focused towards businesses. Unless your creating a dating site geared towards only business owners of the industry it might work then, but with what you want to offer Vista Print won't work. I'd trade it out with a porn site or sponsor program, you'll maximize your revenue better.

Thanks for your input and I don't take it personal. Your right the platform I am using is a forum. I can hide all the features except that one. I have a download section that I disabled, I was thinking about enabling it and allow members to upload and download there own porn. I was also thinking that I could use it to review porn, but I am not sure about the legal implications. I was also thinking about using the forums to allow members to write adult stories. My concern with regard to the advertising( and why I currently have google ads on it) is, what are the laws with regard to anyone being able to see the ads?

Another, much easier option, would be to add a whitelabel dating site to your domain along with your forum (put it to a subdomain or subfolder). One I am using for my www.menprefermen.com is from DatingFactory.com

You can use their templates and literally have a site up tonight, or... If you're really into all the designing, you can create your own look, colors, etc so that it fits perfectly with your site.

I would not do this. Any time you give users this access... It's the saying, "You give someone an inch, they take a mile." That's what the users will do. Your giving them an inch stretch to upload their own whatever, they will take the mile to upload what they do not own. Make sense?
