I went out and got a really cheap digital camera finally. So me and my bf are thinking about setting up an amatuer site of ourselves with live webcams and galleries/videos.
Anyone have any advice on how to get started? Tips, links, etc? I'm doing this to try to raise money for my big dreams, so I am really going to put my all into making it successfull, any help is MUCH appreciated!

I know how....:specs:
First you need a server that allows streaming video, then you need a program to push the video. (It's called normally done with a program called a JAVA PUSH.) If you don't have the program, it's not really streaming its more like just taking a picture every 2 seconds and throwing it on a server.
Really good stable programs that don't have a lot of ads all everywhere are going to run you anywhere from $200.00 bought outright - $4000.00 leased yearly. (you may find one that you can lease, but sure it would have ads to them or porn sites.
Right now, for someone just getting started in this, I would say go the IFriends way. Unless you have some backers.
Yeah, not having a streaming cam with audio will definately be a downfall of the site. But thats ok. Gotta start somewhere (and it won't be at ifriends). But i'm on dialup anyway remember :p
So, this is just a pet project for fun and to try to raise a little money for my big project, so it's supposed to be FUN not super money making oriented, so it's cool if my site isn't the best of the best. I can't imagine that guys who start a webcam site JUST to make money do too well, unless they are drop dead hot which i'm not.
It's more or less going to be a large database of amateur pics/vid clips of me, my bf, friends, and others. Thats the sell point, not the webcam, thats a bonus. I think amateur pic sites where you can actually chat with the owner and see what he's up to are cool, and thats what i'll have, fancy streaming cam or not.

As you already know, because the market is so saturated with webcams you want yours to stand-out a little if you can. So any kind of new niche maybe or a different way of doing things. Spend some time looking at some exsisting ones and see what you wouldn't want to repeat and maybe something out there that you like that you can build off of.

Thanks edk, I totally agree that any new site also needs a new angle. Pretty much the only one I have is that the site is really simple. Dosn't use a portal script and isn't an ugly homemade one page scroller either. Just a plain easy to navigate site full of hot amateur pics of guys, with the webcam kind of as an added bonus.

thank you Lee. Yes we have either run an Amateur site of our own or have been in the cam network and hosting side for the last 6+years.
I did re-read the posts made and noticed that DJ is on a dial up. That is a problem as we do need broadband. However if it is available and it is a question of cost we would be happy to help with that for a few months while you get things going.

I did a copuple of amateur videos and sold them on naughtybids.com
I paid $200 per video ($100 per guy) for each guy and collect about $1500 per video and I am still selling them...
I forgot to tell U that I have saved money editing my videos... I have invested about $1500 on video editing and stuff
I think that work quicker if you just want to make money for another proyect. Check the law about adult videos in your area before doing anything.

I think you are looking to just get started right now. I have had a bedroom cam running for a few years now, and I found a nice little program that runs it easily.
It's called WebCam32 - and you can buy it and download off their website. I think it was like $40. The address is

It works nicely, and it was relatively simple to setup.

I'll have to at least start my site with dialup because there is no broadband internet available here. I like community webcam sites and I know that gaycamz is a good one, maybe after I move I could move my site there.
Should a small amateur site like this have a members area? I probably can't do anything like ccbill, so I guess I would use a premium/platinum AVS. Which one(s) would you use for a webcam/amateur site? I want one that has a good reputation and that has a monthly recurring premium upgrade. The only one i'm familiar with at all is UGAS platinum.
I would still drop a note to Cx@camz.com. She has built and maintains several sites for others and does a rev share with them. She has a billing solution in place.
As for the broadband if and or when you ever do get one the please do look us up.
I believe that webcam 32 will work on a refresh page with dial up. We did it for a short time back about 5 or 6 years ago.

Digitaljay --- What? Where do you live, if I may ask. Well you can definately use WebCam32 refreshing on a webpage over dialup - its pretty simple --- but my goodness. I can't imagine how slow that would be over a dialup connection, especially if you had like 3+ people pulling images from it.
You can't get any broadband? ISDN ??
As a marketing idea, consider making your own FunCam free for anyone, and then archive photos of your Events behind something like Mancheck or UGAS. And of course you can use your cam page to advertise your other websites as well..

Same design when he started back when ACPAY was still in business. He started with maybe 20 photosets and a cam and a private aim address which he chats with members. He does a j/o show a week and now we are adding about 3 photosets a week. usually one of his and a couple others that we buy.
Here's the kicker - I was afraid to use VISA because of lack of content and chargebacks. With just checks and MC and about 1.5 years later we have had less than 5 chargebacks and they were ALL checks.
Adding ALL the members he has gotten from day one until now, he still has 47% of them as members. And is still getting ACPAY rebills like crazy.
i really feel if done right an amateur site can do very well in the gay market. There are some very creative ways to market yourself if you try.

I used to have an amateur webcam site, and I used UGAS for the members area. I made more sales with it than with any other site/service I have ever used. Since I have higher quality pics now, and a lot more of them, should I try UGAS Platinum? I will be using WebCam32 for the webcam. I'm sure it's outdated, but it is what I used to use so I am familiar with it.
The site is comming alone nicely, i'm designing it with the ultra high tech wysiwig web site design software Notepad. Its amazing features are allowing me to do a lot with this site, so it's going to have a lot of content. It dosn't look like any other amateur site i've ever seen, and the content is completely exclusive, so the project should be worth it right?
Ok if I don't use an AVS, what cc processer would be best? ccbill?

I also recommend webcam32.. i have a few tutorials on how to set it up.. how to save images to your hard drive for extra content & some other cool stuff with it.
There are a few good options for billing...

are a few of the other avs payment options out there that aren't used too much by real amateur guys so you might get more signups through them as opposed to avs networks that many of the sites you will trading traffic with are already using...
Badpuppy.com is also another good option.
As Dan posted earlier, I also have made an option available for the guys on gaycamz that want to broadcast but don't have a web presence or a way to set up billing.

Ok I built the site, redid my bedroom, and now i'm taking a ton of photosets of every kind I can think of.
So far I have:
Getting off on the train tracks while i watch hot buff guys with their shirts off work on them.
Naked rock climbing then jacking off on a cliff overlooking water.
In the yard in a blow-up pool with a bottle of baby oil. Lot's of glare in this one, hmph.
Jacking off on the edge of a roof with a glass bowl on the ground under me to catch my load. Sorry I don't eat it like most camguys.
And of course me jacking off to porn on my bed and in front of my computer.
Anyone have any other ideas? I need to have a LOT of content so I can have a members area. I guess i'm going with the verotel/ccbill combination so popular on camsites, but I won't charge more than $15 a month, maybe even that much for 3 months.

I am never at an end to ideas for photoshoots...
here's a couple...
after you've done these - let me know show me one sample pic from each - and I'll give you two more ideas...
1. since you already have the pool - you very well could make an entire series of POOL pics and do different things IN the pool and even open that up to special requests / suggestions from your members... since you need content shoot suggestions anyway - you can start with miinimal content and INVOLVE your members to let them help you grow - that will cause them to have a feeling of loyalty and wanting you to succeed because they helped you grow... - - - for a pool shoot - sit in the pool - dry - and have it full of undies... do things with the undies...
2. have pictures of animals or whatever
sitting on a table or something - maybe 3 pics - stand a ways back and with your
stream or piss or cum aim - and try to take out (target) all the pictures you set up as targets...
there you go sweets...

OK...well my boyfriend and I did this (as you guys want to do) in the late 90's...the times have changed and there are so many sites doing doing that that I feel that your chances of making money are very limited. When we did it very few people had the equipment to do it...now every computer comes with a webcam...and there are a lot of guys (and couples) who are willing to show off for FREE! It is nearly impossible to make money doing this now.
Sorry...but the times have changed.
I am not saying don't try...but I doubt that you will find it worth your time.
I have a client that wants to do a Video Chat website, and since I have never done one I don't know what to charge. What is involved in building the site, they already have the webcams, what kind of software do I need to stream the content out to the clients, also what prevents anyone from getting the stream, is there a piece of software that controls access to the streams?
Basically what am I look for, software, a service, and how does one integrate another service such as imLive or iFriends within your own website?
Any help would be appreciated.
