The direction I gave him was to prepare a press release I could use to send out to the membership of sex site to promote our site.

I wasn't going to doing anything but rewrite it, but after talking to another member, it was suggested that I post it here and ask for comments. Would the above email make you want to type in my URL and check out the site?

I think it could be suped up a little.

Its late right now but ill do a quick re-write later when i awake for ya Tony, the basics are there but it doesnt 'grab' me so to speak.

While I understood what you were trying to say here, that the site auctions Gay Men's items, the ONLY kinda gave me the impression that if I'm not a gay male ... go away.

Since an auction site has to attract as many buyers as possible I'd say putting the emphasis on getting bargains on adult gay merchandise is a good thing, but there is no need to "yell" it with caps and exclamation marks. Your guy sounds like he's more used to writing scripts for local used car dealerships. Keep all the facts and write your own sales pitch.

I am grateful to all of you who provided your feedback. And, I agree with you. I guess, what I thought was implied in my post, but not explicit, is that the copy you read cost me about $400.

When I read it, I thought I could have done better myself. And, as an accountant, I am not the most creative-type walking around. But, knowing that I can be too critical, I thought I'd "sleep on it." When I showed the copy to a GWW member, whose opinion I am beginning to have faith in, she couldn't believe it. That's when I posted it here. And, I think you confirmed my feelings that this was worth $400 about as much as a mailing list from the RNC for my site.

If you really need to hire help, a good rule of thumb is to never pay more than $50 a DAY for it. Figure up how many days it would take you to do, then take it times $50 and never pay more. So this job, if done extremely well, shouldn't have even cost you that much.

I've never had a hard manual labor job that payed much more than $50 a day, much less helping someone out with sales text, promotion, etc.

As a programmer I made about that an hour. In web/graphic design the rates are fairly high, but that's normal. I have no idea what copywriting goes for these days.

Yeah well I'm poor and I always have been. I'd feel rich if I was making $10 or more a day online. Right now I make about that every few weeks.

As far as the price of hiring someone to do work like that; I can't imagine paying anyone too much unless their work is excellent. Otherwise it's too easy to do it yourself to be worth the money or the time spent finding someone who does quality work.

I like the design of your site a lot. I think you should put the banner at the bottom inside your tables above the links at the very bottom though. The welcome new users and members graphics aren't great either. Other than that I think the site is perfect and a great idea. Everyone knows about...that one big adult auction site, I bet it's just a short matter of time before everyone knows hotpopporn.

Jay, if I have to be afraid of someone mentioning a competitor, I'm going to be in deep trouble. As for what makes hotpopporn a better site? Well, I'm not sure I would necessarily phrase it that way, but, I think having competition is usually a good thing. It usually means the consumer is going to be offered more options. And, while more options can be a double-edged sword, remember one telephone company?, I think it is is better in this case.

So, I hope by offering an alternative to a straight-dominated site, there will be better options, at least for the gay community.
