I'm about to make some sites with (allegedly :) ) straight guys. I've used the word "straight" for my site titles too many times.
So I'm wondering whether the word "breeder" is an offensive or perfectly normal term for a heterosexual man? I think I've come across collocations such as "hot breeder cum" more than a few times. If the term is derogatory in the same way "fag" is, I'll avoid it at all costs. But for now I just don't know.
English isn't my mother tongue.. that's the reason I'm asking.
Its not a word i would choose to use.
Personally i liken it to the word 'fag' myself.

As alternatives why use the following..
Hetro
Hetrosexual
Married
STR8
Engaged
Single
Bachelor
They all have connotations of the models being straight :)

OK.. yeah, it's offensive and kinda smarmy.. but this is porn, and although it's not a word I'd use to my mother, I think on a site that features straight men but is aimed at gay men, "Breeder" is a word you can get away with.
It's a way to take the guys down a bit... but I don't think it's necessarily as bad a "fag".
or am I all alone on this one?

I'm right there with you. Breeder is perectly acceptable when speaking about straight men on a gay site. No worse then hetero guys calling women - bitches or dirty sluts on straight websites.
yeah, see... it'a all about the sales pitch.
And although there's words like "Hot Piss Load" and "dripping with cum" that we don't use in polite conversation, we all use them when making a sales pitch.
I won't use words like "******" or "Spic" or "Faggot", but "Breeder" I don't think crosses the line like those words do.
breeder is very offensive, and most of the people i know who use it mean it in a very offensive way - scornful, derisive.
i question that it is a sexual trigger word. bitch and slut and ho sadly turn a lot of straight men on. is anyone here turned on by the word breeder regarding straight guys? i find that saying the guy is married seems to get that point across if i feel i've been using the word straight enough for that page...

Yes, I find calling a guy a "Breeder" a turn on... "married" isn't a turn on for me.. at all. I'm more about 20-something straight guys, few of whom are married, and besides, if he's married, I'm bringing in a whole can of worms I don't wanna go into. He's now cheating on a wife, and there might be kids... and it's just somethng that gets in the way.
As a guy who does, on occasion, shag straight guys, I've been known to call them "breeder" while we're doing it... and it's all about demeaning him a bit... so yeah, it's a bit offensive, but a lot of us still use mildly offensive language to sell memberships. I've never had a guy get turned off by being called a "breeder", and in fact a couple of them liked it.. it was like I was reminding them that they were straight even though they were getting the works from a guy.
But most important, I think that you've gotta go with what you feel comfortable doing.
hey, if it's a trigger word for a lot of guys into str8 men, it's worth using on the right site.
btw, most of the straight guys i know don't even know what the word breeder means, and a bunch had never even heard it till i asked them if they knew what it meant *grin*
I am straight and I find it offensive. =/ The only people that I have ever heard/read use the term have been gay men. The times that I have actually heard it have been with a mean tone of voice, not an aroused tone.
Sometimes, I really do feel discrimination for being straight from gay men.

In general, I know that women don't like being called those things, and I personally won't use them in my text on straight sites. The closest that I'll come is using 'acting slutty'... never bitch, never ho.

"Married" or "Single" reminds one too much of a guy's current status. It's not a turn on at all. At least not on a gay site.
"Straight" "Str8" and similar things are as sexy as it gets, but when comes to think of it, they are mostly neutral.
"Heterosexual", just like "homosexual", is taken from psychiatric terminology... doesn't do much for me on a porn site.
"Breeder" ... I have to admit it does turn me on. It suggests those very qualities of a straight guy that I'm seeking when I'm not after gay guys - i.e. his intention to go and fuck girls. It doesn't imply his marital status or how medicical profession is inclined to call him.
I guess "breeder" might be a bit offensive to straight guys (implying that their main purpose is to fertilize women - as far as sexual function is concerned)... but that's why I think it would work well on a porn site. By the same token "gay" might be understood as a person whose sole purpose is to act sexually in a funny way (euphemism for "queer" or "unproductive"?)
But oh well, that's just me. I'll say again that English isn't my first language so don't take all this for granted :)
hey, Ben - what you say makes perfect sense to me. i guess i missed this aspect, possibly because my straight guy sites are solo. i'll definitely have to incorporate breeder into the large text on a gallery and see if it sends good traffic.

OK..Thetwink, I'd never refer to a straight friend in friendly conversation as a "Breeder", and yes, it's meant, in those circles, as a slur.. a put down.. it's the gay men's answer to being called a "Cock Sucker".
However, I've been called, while having sex, a "Cock Sucker" by straight and gay men alike..and I shoot back that they're "breeder Trash"... it's what we call "dirty talk"... and it's a HUGE turn on to a lot of us.. ask my BF about that.

whore, slut and breeder are all insulting terms relating to sexual practices. i can't see much difference between 'em except that i notice that usually straight men don't get insulted regarding their sexuality... when a straight man is insulted by another straight man, the insult usually indicates that the straight man is gay.
so breeder does stand alone in that way ;-)

I'm certainly not excusing discrimination in any form, but please tell me you understand the source of that attitude. Expect sympathy here for discrimination based on your sexual orientation, but not pity.
Overall, if you're worried about who you might offend, I would recommend that you not promote porn at all. We are in business, and make damn good money, from finding new and creative ways to offend. Peddling flesh is exciting and profitable largely becuase it IS "taboo" and offensive to one or several groups.

Prejudice and discrimination can only come from those with power over others. I made none of these laws you speak of.
In my opinion, just because someone is prejudice towards anyone for anything, does not automatically give that person power. Therefore, it does not take someone having power over me for me to feel discrimination.
The original post asked if a word was offensive, and I simply stated that I found it offensive, and feel discrimination often from gay men. End of story. No need to psycho-anaylize my statement, nor any need to display just the type of behaviour that I was thinking of when I wrote my reply to the original poster.

I am sympathetic toward discrimination in many forms, for many reasons. In the past, I admit I have gone through my own phases of self-pity. Those are phases are defeatist and serve to further the cause of those who discriminate, which is why I caution against them now. That's really all I was trying to do. Perhaps I took too much liberty in offering advice there. Advice, as I was poignantly reminded recently, is often more beneficial for the person giving it.
