Question about Marketing

Hey there!

I am new here ... I want to say Hi! first of all.

My name is Megan and I am the webmaster for http://www.shanesworld.com , http://www.collegeinvasion.com and http://www.shanesworldcash.com .

It has recently come to my attention we have a lot of gay and bi members to our sites. I found this out when running a contest on the sites. I would really like to be able to create marketing materials specifically geared in their directions. The gay and bi markets are very new to me but have been an idea we have tossed around for a while.

Being a girl i think will help me since I can defiantly appreciate a hot guy , but i feel i am lacking when trying to create something for these niches. Considering we are a "straight" movie company i am not sure of what type of clips I should look for, for the TGP's I plan to create.

Anyone want to through some suggestions my way?

What exactly are you wanting to do? Are you wanting to create a paysite product geared at gay men? Or are you wanting to create marketing tools that will sell your existing straight products to gay and bi men?

Here's another post that had a lot of dicussion about a site creating by some straight folks that wasn't converting very well.

If you're thinking of creating a product for gay men, did you have some ideas you wanted to run by us? I only ask because a lot of the products that straight companies come up with are demeaning to gay men or they just plain miss the mark.

We've got tons of twink and straight college boy sites. We need something way out there. Penispalooza has an interesting product.

Takemytaco: awww ::blushes:: Thanks. I think collegeinvasion.com maybe one of the few 110% reality lines out there. We set nothing up on those ... we don't have to LOL and we are very picky about guys in our videos.

Lee: We are not really sure what we have planned yet. It's something we have just been mulling over for awhile. Since we are most known for our reality stuff, we would probably do something to that effect. Got any ideas? ;)

Dzinerbear: We want to do both. I would like to make our current stuff more marketable to the gay and bi market. Those markets seem to find us more by mistake and i would like to make materials strictly for the markets. I also agree on the overuse of twinks and straight college boys. We would want to come up with something unique. We try to do that with all of our stuff. We do fit into certain "niches", but we have our unique flare in them.

The biggest problem we have found in the past when throwing these ideas around is talent. Which talent agencies have the hottest guys? Like i said we are very picky ... makes for good product, makes for difficulty casting LOL

What about the college invasion site is appealing to the gay market?

I thought straight couples having sex was bad, according to the rules and guidelines in my handbook of the 'gay niche'? (sorry Dzinerbear ;-) )

just goes to show - when you think you have everyone in nice little boxes, one of them pops open and there's a clown inside!!! :bush:

I think that there's some guys in the gay market who really like seeing straight guys turned on an getting laid... i do actually like to see striaght guys having sex with women.. my problem is that most sites ignore the guys altogether... they clip out their faces, don't show us what they look like and treat them like props.

Straight porn that does it for me shows the guys close up, shows their faces, shows them having a good time and most of all shows that their bodies keep going up past their waists.

So I think that if you want to market those sites to gay surfers it's a good idea to make sure that you don't block the guy out, and don't be scared to put him front and center.

What our customers have been telling us is they like the cute straight frat boys in uncomfortable situations type thing. One scene in particular that is mentioned is in one of our Scavenger Hunt videos we send some pornstars into a frat house and the girls take a shower with several of the frat boys. There are about 10-14 naked frat boys in the shower; standing in a line up looking nervous ... it is actually a funny scene because of their faces! LOL

But that was actually my question too, I was pleasantly surprised to find out how many gay and bi members we had.

Jasun, thank you for this post. This is something we have been doing without realizing we were doing it, which can explain our appealing to the gay and bi markets. We have always thought the guys played just as an important role in our stuff. We pick cute, young, fun guys.

See.. yeah.. that kind of thing is just NEVER done in gay porn... there's a lot of things that i've found are huge turn ons for people..

On another gay surfer board I'm on, the guys got into non-sexual things that turned them on.. one guy mentioned that one of the biggest turn ons he ever had was watching a bunch of policemen dunk each other in a dunk tank.

One guy said he liked to watch guys blow up baloons (not THAT uncommon..)

People mentioned all sorts of things.. like seeing guys wearing touqes and seeing guys falling off balance beams. Seeing Guys try on each other's shoes... stuff you'd never see on a "gay" site made by a "straight" company.

there's a huge un-tapped market for watching guys get "gunged" ie.. having slimed poured over their heads and taking pies in their faces.

Nobody is doing stuff like that... And just watching guys embarrassed in a shower together is enough for you to have a big gay following.. so.. cool.. more power to you.

i hope more straight companies realize that they can easily appeal to the gay market by doing some pretty easy things to their sites.

Thanks Megan, i've now learned my something new for today & you got me thinking!

I'm on a bit of a crusade currently - i'm tired of the whole niche category concept ... you are this, therefore you must like this. I think our target marketing does us a dis-service most of the time as we are trying to aim at a stereotype, rather than at human beings.

The scene you describe above would be really popular with women too - our female members have always loved shower cams or any of theose voyeur type content plugins.

so basically what I got from this thread is that if a guy is hot and enjoying himself it makes little difference what (or who!) he is doing?

that's funny ... its *exactly* the same 'rule' as marketing to straight women ;-) 'if the girl is enjoying herself ....'

with marketing to straight women, the 1 major turn off is the poohole shots ... would it be an equal turn off to gay men if there was a big pink vagina in the shot? is that the type of thing that can be ignored for the hot guy, or is it a mood killer?

i'm working on expanding my marketing to include gay men and straight women without offending either party & am curious of your opinions.
