i've noticed that some designers who do really good straight tours don't do very good gay tours at all. which designers created your favorite gay tours?
thanks!

http://www.xxxdesign.co.uk and http://www.webinc.com do some of the better gay site designs IMHO especially, if you work with them throughout the design process.
Also check out Steve and Becs works too :)

me
xxxdesign.co.uk has no gay sites in their portfolio so i can't tell. But Webinc did some banners for my own website and i have to say that i love them.
Other than that, i'd choose a gay designer over a straight one for a gay website, that's for sure. Just a personal taste.
Justin @ xxxdesign.co.uk designed http://www.cumsoda.com http://www.dilf.com and a couple of other gay sites for us ;)Quote:

Checks in the mail Steve. Or I could just drive 6 miles and drop off the check. ;)
hahaha don't worry, whatever you want to do is fine and i'm gonna hit you up in about 2 hours with you know what :)
Hurrah!
One of my fave tours is the one on CorbinFisher.com. I love how you can click on each model in the preview area and see info on them. And look at each update that took place and check out what the update entails. CorbinFisher came up with the layout itself and then Bionic Pixels *blush* redesigned their site a short while back with the blue and yellow and new logos and text and colors and branding. So I'm a little biased there hehe. But I just love the clean look of it all and how the tour shows surfers alot but not too much.
I also really love the look and feel of Bel Ami Online . They have inhouse designers there and so designed it all themselves with Don and John and Bel Ami being the guiding forces behind the look and they really created something that reflects and compliments Bel Ami's overall clean, professional, impressive and light look.
BD, what's the url for Bionic Pixels adult sites portfolio? I've visited your site several times, but I can never find where you guys hide the adult sites.
hehe yeah it's on a whole different "site".
http://xxx.bionicpixels.com
Some of the sites that aren't listed on the portfolio or that have since been updated include:
http://www.studio2000video.com
http://www.hotdesertknights.com
http://www.gearessentials.com
http://www.executivemaleescorts.com
http://www.deliciousdelightsco.com
http://www.manfactory.com
http://www.cybersocket.com
http://www.sexycitycash.com
and a ton of others.
Thanks BD.
Might I suggest you change your url in your sig. Most of the folks here aren't looking for site designs for their furniture store ;)
hehe I switch it back and forth between the two. For recip link purposes, whenever I switch my sigs on boards, the URL linked to invariably becomes the top listing for "bionic pixels" in the search engines. So like if you do a search for BP now, the www url comes up first. In a few weeks I'll switch all my sigs to xxx and the xxx url will come up first. Then back and forth and so on ;)
Don't forget Bec, her site is http://www.eroticbydesign.com and she has done some killer work for me!
cheers,
Luke
hmmm ... here I was thinking we weren't supposed to judge people's abilities based on their sexual preferenceQuote:

And for the record, i would still not choose a straight guy/girl to make my own gay sites... Just a personal preference.
i would choose the best designer, without ever asking about their sexual preferences. after all, the point of sites is to make us money - and you could decide on a lesser designer (thereby making less money) by making sexual orientation the main deciding point.
Hi Patti, it's totally understandable but it is still my choice. I'm more comfortable with using a gay designer than a straight one for my GAY sites... i'd choose a straight one for my straight designs.
I just find it irritating when people make smart ass comments because someone else makes his own choices.
i didn't make any smartass comments - i agree that people should make their own choices. we don't have to agree with each others' choices, but hopefully we can all agree that we all have the right to make those choices.
I find it irritating when those same people complain that other areas of society do exactly the same thing ...Quote:

Yes, it is your choice ... but if that's how you defend discrimination, I'm sure you don't mind when you are excluded from things because of your sexuality.
As a straight woman, I could design your gay site with my eyes closed - its not about gender or sexuality, its about experience & understanding your target audience. Your saying you would feel more comfortable with someone less skilled, as long as they are gay?
If we all needed to 'be' our audience, us pornographers would be pretty twisted people!!!
I respect your choice scorpio, but I have as much right to comment on it as you do to have the choice.
Hi Cj, well i totally understand your point of view, i just didn't appreciate your comment (felt more like an attack) that was kinda like "how dare you.. blah blah".
I make my own choices and personally, i'll always choose a gay designer for my gay designs. BUT i never said i would settle for less. I'll still be choosing someone with competence. There are plenty of very good gay designers out there.
Also to make it clear, i'm sorry but i'm not someone to defend business discrimination. People hire/work with whoever they want to. I won't work/hire someone because i have to. If some straight people refused to work with me, a gay guy... I don't care. I'd probably wouldn't want to work for them anyway. Business is business and i'm not one to waste my time on that.
I may seem to be narrow minded then so be it. At least, i feel comfortable knowing i make my own choices and not people's choices.
You mean we AREN'T???? :wtf:Quote:

Hmm...looks like some changes have been made in the "world of scorpie" in regards to posting from just a few months back. I LIKE!
My two cents..have to agree with Scorpie..I don't truly think a straight person understands the sexuality of the gay mentality, and thus will have a harder time in capturing that for the website which is VERY important to me. Not all gay men can do it well either. So, like Scorpie..I would strive to find the person that would be most in tune with what I wanted..and that IS usually someone that is gay.
hmmm... my avs sites outsell those of most gay men i've talked with about this, and i'm not even a man. my gay galleries outsell most gay galleries i know of, no matter who makes them. i've helped gay men make gay galleries that sell better to gay men, too.
in fact, my marketing to men has been far more successful than my marketing to women. go figure!
Patti, i never said Women and straight people don't do a great job with gay websites. I know that you're very successful for a fact.Quote:

I've come to you for text on some gay websites because i trust you for that.
I think there is a misunderstanding to what i said. My choice to go with a gay guy for the design of my own website is just a personal choice and not a question of Women and straight people doing a bad job on gay sites.
Patti, are you for hire?Quote:

Using this reasoning, I could say that a gay designer doesn't truly get the mentality of any straight person, and therefore should not be working in any area except marketing to other gay people. Porn is just our widget, the principals apply in every industry, no matter what the widget.Quote:

A good designer or marketer knows how to target an audience, that is why they are considered good at what they do.
So if not all gay men can do it, then wouldn't it mean it is a skill that's not defined by sexuality?Quote:

Scorpio, I see your point entirely ... while it may not seem like it from my input to this thread, I myself am exactly like you when it comes to issues of discrimination against women. Hire whoever you want, who cares - a person has to be hired for a quality, why not be it that he's gay? I find the energy is better spent doing a better job than any man ever could. *giggle*
But that's the beauty of message boards - they are here for discussions like this ;-)

Pretty good at twisting the words around there..give ya credit for that one. You took a specific area, gay porno websites, and applied it to a much larger and general part of the world. You are going to tell me that a straight man knows what it's like to cruise men, make out with them, have foreplay and then sex? No they don't. And that's why it's MY CHOICE to use those that know what the experience (gay sex) is like and what turns on those "hormones".

That's very correct, and in my opinion, the BEST designers for MY gay websites turn out to usually be (99% of the time) gay..not straight.
So if not all gay men can do it, then wouldn't it mean it is a skill that's not defined by sexuality?>>wow...lol..love to stretch things a bit (no pun intended)..Hey..you've never come across a gay man who is CLUELESS about things? That's why I said "MOST" gay men can relate..not necessarily all.
Not so sure why you get so hot & bothered about people's own preferences in designing their websites.
Well i'm happy we finally found something in common hehehe :)Quote:
