Why does adult have a bad rep?

I joined realrhapsody.com for a free trial. I just had to download an album I couldn't find on Itunes.

Well first, it's NOT free to download... that costs an additional $.79 per track. The link to cancel is very difficult to find and once you find it, you have to give them a reason. And get this, you have to CALL (!) during regular business hours to cancel!!! What a bunch of shit!

So now I have to wait 2 hours and I can just imagine the high pressure sale pitch I'm gonna have to endure. :huh:

Mainstream sites are 10 times worse than adult sites! :frown:

I had a problem with net-flix. I signed up with what i thought was a free try for 30 days, but they kept on billing my credit card. what a pain it was to stop it.

Just do a chargeback - a few more of those and their acquirer will make them change those ways or drop them. And the new acquirer will make them change their ways :)

I signed up a while back and they put me thru the same shit.

I called them on the phone, and had to tell them why I cancel. When I told them Real Player is just a piece of shit, and is trying to steal my file associations constantly, the guy was like well let me put you with support and we'll help you resolve that we would love to have you as a member.

Took me 10 minutes

AOL is a PAIN in the bottom to cancel. I tried to call them to stop my service with them and they gave me 2 months free, offered me just their email feature, and all sorts of free things. Then acted mad when I still canceled the service. Finally I just said “What part of I don’t want any aol product anymore do you not understand?”

I signed up in april of 2003 and had free AOL untill October, cause they kept insisting I try them out.

Last time they kept me on the phone for 30+ minutes, telling me how great it was an all .............. :sleep:

lol, I have had AOL for over 8 years now. But I have not payed for a single month in over 3 years. Every two months I call in to cancel and they give me two more months free to stay. You think they would keep a record of free credits. But as long as they let me do it I will keep doing it. :devil:

i know dozens of people who cancelled their bally's memberships and found themselves rebilled for another year... and when you call to get the situation solved, they always act like such a thing has never happened before *LOL*

before the internet was more than a collection of bbs's, i got a free two-week trial for the los angeles times newspaper.

after a few days, i discovered i had no time to read the paper. i called and asked that the papers be discontinued. the nice person i talked to said he noted my account, and thanks.

after the two weeks were over, the papers kept coming. i called, recancelled, but the papers kept coming. i called once a month, but still the papers kept coming. i also started getting guys calling to sell me a subscription. i let them know i couldn't seem to cancel the one i already had.

after six months of having to pick up and recycle the damned papers, the los angeles times threatened to send me to collection or even sue me. i went fucking off - not for the first time.

it took me more than two years to get this fully sorted out.

what can i say? neither adult nor the internet invented these problems :-/

Ah crap, I just joined ballys. I told them I would like my billing date on the 1rst and the lady said no problem, come to find out it's the 28th, and she said she never told me "no problem".

Gosh we can go on forever. Service everywhere sucks these days.

yes, its funny when non-adult sites take adult shady practices and use them, they call it aggressive marketing but we get shut down by visa for using the same tactics. Its a shame anyone has to use those tactics, really!

You know i think for the most part, the industry has a bad rep because WE created it.

Spawning console upon console in order to gain a sale, proliferation of people willing to sell their grandmothers to make a quick buck, at any expense.

Plus, take a look at the 'image' most adult webmasters portray, today more than ever, drug crazed, alcohol fuelled, sex maniacs. Not exactly screaming out 'legitamate business' is it?

Plus, we are an easy target for the right-wing christian groups who do have a huge following, you only have to go back several months to the last election to see that 'porn', while not feature as prominently in the past as it has been, was definately a key issue except, this time, it took the form of 'obscenity' to appease the Christian voters.
