What do you usually pay first time models?

I know it's been discussed before, but there are a lot of new members that I'd appreciate any input from also..

Having said that..I'm curious what you pay a first time model who comes in to do a simple nude shoot? Do you base it per hour, or per session, and if there is more than nudity, i.e. a jackoff, do you pay more for that?

Just trying to get a "feel" (no pun intended) for what the "going rate" is these days. (Yes, I know it differs greatly from place to place & model to model..just curious about the ranges)

between $50 and $100, generally. they shouldn't be there for more than an hour for a solo j/o shoot. the way i see it, if they're having erection problems that extend the time, that's not our responsibility. we pay for useable modeling time only.

We pay $100 per session which usually lasts about an hour.

I generally pay $200 for an amateur solo shoot, but I always offer the model the option of a duo shoot without extra pay (some prefer it and it has higher value for me).

Early on Scott Morris at Factory Videos told me they had tried offering models more than $200 but it didn't make much of a difference. At the entry level the guys either want to do it or they don't.

Having said that, I will certainly pay more for a model I really want to shoot if they tell me they are interested but the money is not enough.

Here's a lesson I learned: If the first and only question a model ask you is "how much," they will probably never do a shoot for you.

I put an ad few weeks ago, saying that I'm looking for males age between this and that, and that they would basically have to pose in nude without ANY ERECTIONS, just in underwear, and bit of a bulge here and there and stuff like that...

I got more than enough replies and I was considering paying around $ 170-250 for a model photoshoot... was I wrong!!!!

Of those 38 that replied anxious to start, after I said what the price would be like, only 2 have agreed.................Geeze....

Most of them tought somewhere in the region of $ 500-1000.... and by the way, my location is still in Europe

a gorgeous bodybuilder with a hot bod or a mouthwateringly slender and cute twink might be worth $500. any time you can get a really really premium model, it's worth it imo.

My question is, did the others turn you down or just not get back to you? Some of them may just need a follow-up call or e-mail.

On the other hand, 2 out of 38 is a low response but not shocking!

And depending on what you're shooting, you might tell them that errections are not *necessary* but then you have the option of shooting them hard if they are OK with it. For some of the guys I hire it's all about their sexual gratification...and that's fine by me!

I am not above exchanging sexual favors for content...LOL! :wtf:

I agree with the amounts above for the amateur stuff... depending on what you can afford and the quality of the model like Basschick pointed out. If talent walks in that’s superior I'll pay them more and use them more, knowing the investment is worth it in the end :extat:

For semi-professional or professional work, the prices are much higher. If you're using a studio with professional lighting, a crew, and or a set, your model is going to assume you're profession and will expect to be paid as such, that's been my experience :high:

dillmedia - good point! of the str8 guys we shoot, i'd say 75% do it for the sexual kick of masturbating in front of the camera.

On average we pay $250 for a solo shoot. If the model is particularly good looking and we think has a broad appeal with our market, we will pay more.

Very interesting. I'm shocked to see people paying as low as $100, but i think whats been said here is probably correct, either they want to do it or not, $100-500 isn't gonna make much of a difference.

As a former boss used to say to models who thought they were worth more than he was willing to pay.... "Dicks are a dime a dozen so your nothing special. Learn to do some tricks with that thing and we'll talk. Until then, take it or leave it."

Very interesting information and very informative! IMO I think it all depends on the area you live and get your talent. I'm located in South Florida and the average going rate for a solo is $150-$200 per scene and anything with Anal action boy/boy or group pays $250-$400 per scene...and it all depends how many scenes you offer at that rate as well.

Some guys have the wrong idea of what a "porn star" should make. Based on my knowledge guys that come from California and move to South Florida think they are going to make "The California Rate" which starts at no less then $500 per scene and that is just for a solo...but yet you can get a hot guy from Indiana and pay them $150 per scene...so it all depends on the talent and how you present it and where they are from.

Getting talent is a challenge for all of us in the industry. How many times have you advertised your seeking guys 18-25 and you get a call or email with a guy that states: "I really want to get into this business, I'm 37 years old but everyone tells me I look 18. Here's my pic, let me know what you think"95% of the time most guys that state this looks 37 or older.

What we need to do is start networking together as a community and once a studio finds a "hot" guy, get your photos and videos out of the model and pass them along to others.-just my thought....this will help the model earn more money plus as the model becomes more popular, the sales of videos and webcontent will be more of a marketing draw.

Companies actually used to do that more than they do in todays adult industry and it was good while it lasted.

I think the problems that arose with doing that was that once someone had 'found' a model they staked their claim to him / her and wanted to be paid for each shoot the model did.

I forgot where i saw it but there was a thread recently on another board (GFY i *think*) where a photographer was told she owed the original site owner who the model did a shoot for money because 'he found him first' LOL

Of course, the other thing is that once models start getting shared across multiple companies, they become over-exposed and whilst this may not be a bad thing from a branding standpoint, it could become an issue for a paysites retention, why would a surfer stick around on *MY* site when he knows he can see the same hot guy on *YOUR* site?

Youll also have noticed how many of these 'reality' sites all pretty much use the same models regardless of which company owns the site, i beleive TopBucks is actually doing something about this though and they are only using their own model base now :)

What Lee mentioned is my main concern. I really wish that "we" could all share models that we each discover, god knows, it'll make ALL our lives A LOT EASIER!! But, then we could hardly claim that a specific model is somewhat "exclusive" to us.

From personal experienced, most of the models that i've worked with have pretty much only worked with me. Seems like most don’t actively seek this type of work very often. So if i don't send them off to another producer, the likeliness of them appearing on other sites is very low. And you better believe that this is something that i prefer. If my model appeared on one of the major gay sites out there, why would someone join my sites over theirs?

For example, a couple of the major South Cal producers have asked numerous times to work with my models, but that's not something that i'll even think twice about. If my models appear on their well-recognized sites, I think it'll spell the end of that model for me.

Don't get me wrong, i'll be more that willing to TRADE models with smaller local producers (considering they have good qualified talent). It's just the larger producers that i wouldn't want to send my models to. But I know that even by referring my models to the smaller producers there's a chance that they'll be further referred over to the big guys, but that's a risk that i'm willing to take for good talent exchange (GAWD!!! that sounds soooooo bad! I feel like pimp or something haha).

and btw...i've paid anywhere from $200-800 for a solo photo/video jerk off (about a 3hr shoot).

I try to get away with paying $300 as much as possible but many times i end up paying $500 for the same solo photo/video shoot.

And it's true what everyone's been saying about your location. In Vancouver (where i'm based), $500 is quite a bit for solo work (even though there is one gay company here that pays $750 for the same shoot. UGGGHHHHH!!! It's hard competing with them :)) but in LA that's the bare minimum any straight model appearing on a gay website will make for a solo jerk off video. So, do some research and see what other local producers are paying models for the same type of work to get an idea what you need to be paying.

I’ve heard that models in Montreal and Toronto get paid much less than what I’m paying right now. Is that true? Basschick, were you really getting decent guys there to do a solo jerk off for $100-200?
I know JakeCruise made a trip out to Toronto/Montreal a while back. It must’ve been refreshing for him to pay the guys so much less than what he’s used to paying them out in LA where he’s based. Hmmmm….i think I’m going to have to go out there very soon!

I pay $250 a day for solo photos (usually 1-2 sets) and video (usually 1 video) and $350 a day for duo. This is just for guys who are starting out, though. Bigger names get more pay, naturally, but I usually get a little more content out of them, too.

I agree. I'll share talent I find with 1-2 other companies.. that's it. I think if you go beyond that the talent is overexposed and value decreases.

It's important to take into consideration how many members you have, when considering sharing a model. If you have a 2000 member site, in a specific niche, but can get that model work on straight sites, or other niche sites, then it would make sense to make some extra money. After all... 2,000 seing your model is a drop in the bucket... hardly worth stressing about oversaturation right?

i don't mind sharing models , as i see it , there's only so many ways/times you can photograph a guy before he get's alittle "over-exposed" and unless your a "content-provider" 50 sets of the same guy is alittle too much!.
i'm actually flattered when catalina or other larger companies inquire about a model(s) and i pass the information on to the model and let him decide. i look at it as a "feather in my cap" especially when the model goes on to become a major porn star!.
my models are my "children" and i treat them as such! , and on occassion! , "pimp-daddy!" has to go down at 3am and bail them out of jail! ( straight guys! , gotta luv'em! )

Personally, i wouldn't have any problems sending my models to straight companies to do straight porn (some of them wanted to get into that from the start), but if i were to send them to a gay company (where they'd appear on another gay website), i'd want to get an equally hot model back from that company. I think that's the only thing that sounds fair to me.

Here's the way I do it: If I refer I get a finders fee, same if I get a referred model. After the model is posted on their site, I put a link on that models page on my site, to the other sites page with the model ( my affiliate link embedded of course ) sometimes they do the same. I say something like "If you want to see more of Joe, go here." or "Joes done a hot new video, go here to check it out."

So not only do they get new talent, we exchange traffic and make more money together. Or you could think of it as I make money on the referral fee and affiliate commissions: high:

Okay!!! I knew I would get a response from the *sharing talent* coment. We at allboysvideo pay anywhere from $200-$500 depending on the scene and that rate is usually the norm for South Florida for using gay or bisexaul and str8 talent.

Someone brought up a great point and I have learned something by reading this site...I'm normally in the video production business end of this and we sucessfully release videos and we just started our members site. As a marketing stand point I think its great to have the model make the rounds and work for various studios but I do see and understand why so many website owners like to have the talent *exclusive* cause in the world of member sites...why would a viewer go to a site to see "Fresh New Faces" but when the viewer gets thier that "Fresh New Face" has been seen all over the web and it can get tiring after a while.

This was a learning experience for me and thank you for pointing that out!!!
