What Is The Difference Between DVD-R and DVD+R?

Could someone tell me what the difference between these two types of recordable disk are please?

Im guessing its something to do with the type of data recorded on them?

The shortest answer I can give is that DVD+R can be used a multi-layer disc and DVD-r can't.

But they're both different technologies.

Both formats have dual layer options (DVD-R DL and DVD+R DL).

The differences are technical. The + format is less susceptible to burning errors for a number of reasons, so it was also able to reach faster burning speeds.

Modern burners and players can record to and playback both + and - media, so to end users their differences are effectively nullified. But generally if you look at specs closely, you'll notice that many dual-format burners have slightly faster + burning speeds than - burning speeds.

yeah, that's right.. there IS a DVD-r format that allows dual layer. You dont' see it much.

Really, it's just two formats and technologies that don't really compete with each other.

Interesting. I don't know why, but I have had more success with burning dvds on dvd-r rather than dvd+r for some reason, so I always buy dvd-r.

DVD+ is supposed to be superior in Error handling as well.

I agree I see no real difference now except in dual Layer
