"The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) began raids in 2001 against patients using the drug and their caregivers in California, one of 11 states that legalized the use of marijuana for patients under a doctor's care. Among those arrested was Angel Raich, who has brain cancer, and Diane Monson, who grew cannabis in her garden to help alleviate chronic back pain.

A federal appeals court concluded use of medical marijuana was non-commercial, and therefore not subject to congressional oversight of "economic enterprise."

But lawyers for the U.S. Justice Department argued to the Supreme Court that homegrown marijuana represented interstate commerce, because the garden patch weed would affect "overall production" of the weed, much of it imported across American borders by well-financed, often violent drug gangs."

is this for real? I mean the supreme court ruled that you can't grow pot for even medical purposes? or am I reading that wrong? man... you folks sure are getting a lot of grief happening.

That was an interesting court decision. They pretty much came down along the lines of regulating "interstate commerce" vs. states rights. It would make a textbook college government class study of the subject.

The decision was 6 to 3, and the dissenters who thought the states' rights argument prevailed were Chief Justice Rehnquist, Sandra Day O'Connor and Clarence Thomas, who may very well likely be the next chief justice.

i thought by this time in my life it would be legal. when i was 16, i always thought that when the old clowns got out of office and the young people took over, this bull will the weed would finally come to an end, I quess i was wrong.

Geeze, you'd think they could differenciate between someone who has a few plants and someone who has a whole field :juggle:
