Mass Media!!!! News & News Magazines!!

How come the mass media and news and shows like primetime or 20/20 have not reported on what is going on with our freedom? Is it me but I find that many of our freedoms are being slowly taken away and that the church is playing a major role in our government...but yet they rather report on "Tom Cruise" and "Yacko Jacko".

If the general public only new what the government is trying to do, do you think the public will be outraged? How come you never see reports of the hearings regarding the 2257 on CNN or CSPAN???

    Any thoughts?????

There's been talk about this on another thread. Come over and join the fun.

I've been e-mailing news sites all week. But so far nada. What pisses me off more than anything else is that the so-called bastions of liberal news like Salon.com and huffingtonpost.com are covering Tom Cruise and Scientology and transvestite beauty pageants in Indonesia, but they're not talking about the shredding of the Constitution that happened last week.

I suggest e-mailing these sites a link to this eff.org article:

Why the DOJ's 2257 Regulations Aren't "Just a Porn Problem"

Wanna help me recruit some non-porno bloggers and web sites for a little civil disobedience campaign?

    ahmen brother..er sister!
But it's soooo easy to talk big on forums like this (not pointing a finger at you at all..just a general statement to all).

It seems no one really gets involved until SOMETHING HAPPENS THAT AFFECTS THEM PERSONALLY!

Frankly, we Americans, and in particular, webmasters, are a very lazy lout!

I'm setting up a site that'll deal with 2257 and other censorship issues (expanding FCC's regulatory authority, Brownback reclassify porn as a drug, FEC regulating bloggers, etc.). It'll be for "civilians" and porn peddlers alike.

Having trouble with the name. I want to register a domain that plays on the words "Nexus," "Sexus," or "Plexus" because those are Henry Miller novels and would tie into the censorship issue. Those names are all taken though.

I thought about doing something like that. I just didn't want to invest my time right now in heavily such an undertaking. In fact, I was running on the treadmill two weeks ago and came up with a very good domain name, and I see it is still available.

    Hmmmmm.

I wish you the best of luck.

If you want my advice on being as effective as possible, I would suggest:

Keep a site about the problems with 2257 informative, not preachy.
    Be pursuasive, not political.
Draw clear lines as to the problems with the regs, while showing how they do not even solve the problems they were designed to address.

If someone did a solid site that addressed this - what would happen is that bloogers would hyperlink to it as a resource, when they are talking about the subject.

    2257 and the public

My assistant surfs many of the yahoo groups/clubs and many people seem to be getting the word around and many of the group members are up in arms about this new 2257.

I wonder how Yahoo is dealing with this new 2257 regulations? They have a very big adult group section?
