Quality / File Size - Movie Question

Just wondered if any of you folks knew if there was such a thing as an optimal file size that related to different bandwidth speeds when it came to editing movie clips or dvd scenes?

Later this week im hopefully going to start 'playing' with some DVD's that we order from World Wide Content and im trying to figure out the nest way to split each of the 25 movies in to scenes with each movie scene optimized for a different type of speed.

Right now im thinking about using these speeds for the clips..

    56k
    100k
    200k

Does that sound about right or should i just stick to a simple 56k / 100k speed?

Also, any suggestions you folks can give on editing software that i should be checking out would really be appreciated

    Regards,

    Lee

i make my dialup clips 100k. it's not too slow loading for them, and looks better. i make my broadband clips 384k and 768k.

if all you're doing is encoding and splitting, you can either download tmpgenc for free if you're only doing mpgs or you can buy a copy of ulead video toolbox for a whopping $50 - and then buy the boilsoft splitter for the splitting. it's like $19.

What Basschick said about the speeds. I've been impressed with video edit magic $50 www.deskshare.com . Very impressed, in fact.

If you've got Windows Media encoder, make a 3-speed clip that will play at whatever speed the user's computer can take..
